When I saw Novak playing Tabilo, I didn't know about the bottle incident, but it was obvious that something was off about Novak. He looked like he was walking/running through mud. I started wondering if he was purposely holding back, and I just thought he deserved to lose.
Then I saw his press conference where he talked about the bottle and the aftermath, and it clearly had taken its toll on him. I wonder if he got checked for a concussion, because the way he played looked a lot like someone with a concussion. Even a minor one can dull your mental acuity. Hope it's nothing serious.

Andy, just a question: what's your opinion on the changes brought into Novak's game by the new coach. For one: I've noticed he's trying to take the ball earlier on return and it does not work. He has looked awkward on return. Why change return stance when you're already the best at it and returning well? I don't believe the new coach is doing him any favours. He might mean well, but it's as clear as day that it's not working. This is just an aside, not overlooking lack of game time, match fitness, and so forth.

I lose interest in these 10+ day grand prix tournaments- forget they're still being played half the time because they're so stretched out- especially if the stars are gone. Maybe that's why Novak and Nadal are losing- they can't get a rhythm.

    • @jooohan

They’re losing because A) Rafa played a top 10 player which means no place to hide his half gone legs B) Novak is not interested in these tournaments anymore. He was only able to win ONE slam in his first EIGHT YEARS on tour, as opposed to Rafa who won NINE in the same timeframe. I think it is the worry (both rational and irrational) following the hit of the bottle on his head that made him lose that way against tabilo. Like a "bad luck" tail, the superstitious possibility that the incident indicates him the "end" of his domination in tennis. It is obviously an event that could have hurt the mental and physical mechanics of many tennis players. This is hugh precision. A grain of salt that transforms the dynamics of a champion at the end of his career into a bad one. Maybe is it temporary. but it might stay a bit in his head "rent free" like one can sometimes be annoyed by the sound of a clock in the background. In a high performance situation like a top tennis career, this can change a lot of things. It will take him some mental strength to make this temporary and to rebound. No idea if he will be able or not to come back at his very top
