Babymetal use battle and combat as a metaphor for overcoming challenges that you face in life, the only violence in any of their songs that I am aware of is Sis Anger when Yui and Moa threaten to knock some sense into a boy they are annoyed with

Su-metal wrote these lyrics for this song. They do sing about combat a lot, their song Road of Resistance is about their fight to carve out a place for themselves in the metal industry, or I should say inspired by their fight; it's abstracted to encourage anyone to follow their own pathless path. . Divine Attack seems to revisit that theme. They also sing about chocolate. What I find interesting about their themes is the fight is never won or lost, it always goes on.

Koba doesn't even have studio musicians per album, it's on a song by song basis.
The only Kami Band member with any official studio credits is Leda Cygnus (Shinji Yuuto).
He contributed both guitar and bass on 'Arkadia'.
He was also in the studio for Metal Resistance songs like 'Amore', and wrote the arrangement for 'No Rain, No Rainbow'.

You're going to have a fun journey! One thing I love about Babymetal that you're discovering is their range of moods and styles. They were founded on kawaii metal, deliberately over the top cutesey dancing and acting on top of truly heavy death metal.
But as you see, partially due to them growing up, they can put on a very serious intense side which to me, adds even more weight and excitement to the kawaii mode times.
They all were VERY good at being comfortable on stage at such a young age, now they're legit superstar status in my opinion!

    Great reaction, thanks!
About who plays the instruments in the studio versions and featuring artists aside, only Leda Cygnus has been credited for that. So, the correct answer is "Only The Fox God Knows". 🤣
Yes, that is the sign they and the fans do all the time, the Fox sign which is like the devils horns but putting your middle and ring fingers over your thumb, just like the fox in a shadow play. That in particular is a variant consisting in crossing the forearms while doing the sign.
About the song and performance itself, the intro is incredible, teasing the song's main theme. It's not part of the studio track, btw. It sets the perfect atmosphere for the rest of the song. So, good job choosing this one.
"Divine attack" is a great song, well structured, elegant, with a smooth drive, cool drum & bass parts, nice orchestral touch, some heavy riffing and, of course Su-metal's amazing vocals. Not to mention that she is credited for the lyrics on this one for the first time. That's a really big achievement for her and (in her own words) a "dream" and "a final goal in life". Her t-pose near the end is absolutely deserved.
Regarding the chants, it's more complex that you may think. The fact is that in Japan it's considered impolite to sing along the lead singer so, they incorporate by default parts, responses and chants specifically tailored for crowd interaction and participation.
About the song's themes... this is a direct call to arms (probably rhetorical) written by Suzuka, as mentioned before, precisely because the melody line of the demo reminded her of "Road of Resistance" and she wanted to write the lyrics herself. "RoR" is more about forging your own path in a more abstract way.
Other themes... what about wanting to eat chocolate and being a little worried about their weight? Or waking up late and having to hurry up to get to the school being excited to see your friends and having to choose a lip-gloss and a cute hairstyle? haha.. not joking, tho. 😁 But, what about "asking yourself who you really are"? "Mirror Mirror" from the same concerts (PIA Arena 2023)
    Until next time!

Although Babymetal do have a few songs about battle, it's usually being used a metaphor for other forms of struggle or inner conflict. If there is one continuous thread that runs through the majority of Babymetal's lyrics, it's the idea of perseverance through hardship and resilience. Even so, they also have songs about girl power (Megitsune), eating chocolate (Gimme Chocolate), being late for school (Doki Doki Morning), playing hide and seek with a monster (Catch Me If You Can), an anti-bullying song (Ijime Dame Zettai), and all kinds of other things. By pure coincidence, you have ended up listening to most of the songs that speak very directly about battle.

First off another great reaction. Curious, attentive and thoughtful. In my listening to Babymetal-like so much that they do-they use the dressings of heavy metal to convey apositive message. This song is the fight to become who you want to be. To live in the world you want to see. Regardless of the obstacles that may block your way.
So yes a lot of Babymetal's music is about "combat" but it is not the dark, doom and gloom infusing more traditional heavy metal. But a more positive and uplifting fight for the world you wish for. After many, many years of traditional metal that un-erring positivity is one of the major reasons I've personally become so invested in Babymetal. Their metal makes me happy!

  • @BlackArr0w

Their latest album was a concept album, so you might find several songs battle themed, even if the battle is a representation of something else. Songs like Metal Kingdom really focus on it.
In their 3 previous albums, I can't think of any other song about battle, if not maybe battle again youself in Karate and battle agains bullies in Ijime, Dame, Zettai
The others cnan have many different meanings: starting from wanting to eat chocolate, to party summer song, to getting ready to go to school, to wanting to stay up late with friends, etc...

The largest percentage of babymetal's lyrics are about themes of positivity, growth, moving forward, and living life despite adversity. There are several exceptions, the most notable of which would be "rondo of nightmare", lyrically it is the "darkest" song, making more melancholic, desperate references and constant fear. You also have a live version with a great intro from the band where they demonstrate their skills separately.

  • @Grington300
    @Grington300 Před 23 dny +18

Great reaction. When they first heard the demo tape Su-metal liked this song so much - it reminded her of 'Road of Resistance', one of her personal favourites. She said she wanted to write the lyrics ... and that happened, so Su-metal has her first official writing credit.
All your questions were already answered in many of the comments below - @Ganimal83 is one that has provided a good and comprehensive response for you.
Unlike Sabaton and some Iron Maiden songs, any combat or war references in BABYMETAL songs are not to be taken literally. BABYMETAL will be talking about fighting your own inner demons, getting up and moving forward even when life has knocked you down, fighting through the undergrowth and past obstacles to forge you own path to a better future.
Even when BABYMETAL sing about bubblegum it is special bubblegum that can take you wherever you want, the only limits are your imagination and your dreams ... it is "a mint flavoured time machine", step on board and see where your dreams can take you. (This song is 'Awadama Fever').
However, they do have songs about waking up late and rushing to get ready for school, having midnight feasts with their friends and deciding between eating sweets or dried squid arms, magic islands forbidden to adults at the risk of dancing in a happy mosh for ever, coming of age, playing hide & seek with an ogre, tricking parents to buy them all the shiny and delicious things .... I could go on (no seriously, I could, it is taking a lot of self control to stop😁😜).

BABYMETAL has a song about waking up to school early in the morning (Doki Doki Morning), wanting to eat chocolate(Gimme Choco) or having a sleepover party until midnight (Uki Uki Midnight). They also have a song about never ending nightmare (Rondo of Nightmare) or playing hide and seek with a japanese ogre (Catch me if you can) or going to your first heavy metal concert (Headbanger). They also have a song with anti bullying message (Ijime Dame Zettai) So definitely not all of their songs are about combat:D. Their lyrics and songs in general are really diverse.

  • @Ganimal83
    @Ganimal83 Před 24 dny +22

Great reaction! Babymetal songs are quite varied so you're going to hear a wide array of styles and influences.
The "combat" in this song is visualizing one's fight to carve their own path towards their dreams and goals, similar to Road of Resistance lyrics. This song is Su-metal's 1st song she wrote the lyrics for.
For studio recording, Babymetal uses studio musicians for analog instrumentation, combined with digitally programmed instruments, depending on the song. Kami Band is strictly live only, and does not participate in creation of the songs (a few minor exceptions - e.g., Leda Cygnus, one of the Kami East guitarist wrote a few parts for a couple of early Babymetal songs).
_Quick timeline brief for you to clear up potential confusion on members and band:_
*2010:* Babymetal's formation with Su, Moa, and Yui. "Baby Bones", a fake band (actors in skeleton costumes) used in live shows with tracked music (due to budget in the early days).
*2012:* Kami Band (East) debuted, and supported Babymetal for encores only during live shows.
*2014:* Kami Band (East) became Babymetal's full backing band for all live shows (no more "Baby Bones").
*2017:* Yui stops performing end of 2017 due to health.
*2018:* Su & Moa became a duo, supported by various backup dancers. Yui officially leaves in Oct 2018.
*2019:* "The Avengers", 3 rotating backup dancers filled in the 3rd spot left by Yui. One of them is Momoko. Kami Band (West) added to assist with increased touring.
*2020:* Momoko becomes the sole "Avenger" supporting Babymetal. 2020 tour cancelled due to COVID-19.
*2021:* Babymetal takes a ~1.5 year hiatus after 10 Budokan 2021 shows celebrating their 10-year anniversary.
*2023:* Kami East played their last show with Babymetal in Jan. Kami West takes over as sole backing band and Momoko became official 3rd member in Apr (now Momometal, with a mic).
Hope that helps in your reactions! You'll most likely end up seeing their videos spanning a decade, and it can get confusing, lol.

Love your very attentive and thoughtful reactions! A lot of Babymetal songs have a positive message but their topics are very diverse. From food, over night parties, to mint flavored time machines, and anything in between. The lyrics about “combat” is never meant literally, it is about either inner struggles (as in “Karate”, or live struggles and fighting tour own fights to clear the path in front of you. The non-vocal parts (or call and response) are specifically incorporated for the interactions with the crowd.
The musicians for the studio recordings are rarely credited but I know Leda Cygnus (a member of the eastern Kami band) was credited on a few songs for the bass and/or guitar parts.
Check out “Karate” next, please or “Road of Resistance” live in Japan. 🤘🦊🔥

While they talk about battles, I do think they mean: personal battles and personal improvements and working together to reach a common goal.
Obviously no official interpretation exists, but these are common themes for Babymetal.
Kami band might not be an official part of Babymetal, they are part of team Babymetal who work hard to deliver these big shows or more stripped down shows around the world.
The guys are session musicians and session musicians are involved in the recordings of the albums, so sometimes it's them and sometimes it's other session musicians, who ever is the most available and most suitable.

Great reaction! Thank you very much for your appreciation of Su-Metal´s lyrics and the prowess of the Kami Band! The lyrics aren´t about bloody battles in wars like Iron Maiden´s songs, but battles within life itself. A little bit like "Road of Resistance", but still different. To bring in some variety you could try a not-so-serious song of them. There is a live performance at the PIA Arena in 2023 available...
    - Iine!
It is a very early song, released in March 2012, and they didn´t perform it for a loooong time, after Yuimetal´s departure. If you dare to try it, prepare for a wild ride😉
The hand sign is a BABYMETAL thing, right. They mistook the maloik sign (Devil´s hand) for the fox in shadow play during their very (VERY!) early days, and they kept it. Because it´s unique and cool 😄 And you got it right, Su-Metal is the main vocalist. She is the "Queen" 😉 Good performer, very good dancer and outstanding vocalist. She always wears a single ponytail, since around 2012. There are some very early performances where she wears pigtails.
Moametal is the one with the sidewards twin tails (I believe this is called "pigtails", too, right?), and she is the smolest 😉 of the three. She has dimples when she smiles. Very easy to recognize 😉
Momometal is the tallest of the three, and she wears double ponytails. She has rather big eyes and smiles A LOT 😊You will encounter her at some point in time, where she is wearing double buns. That was at the time when she was an "Avenger", a backup dancer to fill in Yuimetal´s (former member) empty spot. "Avengers" just danced, but didn´t sing. There are two other "Avengers" made up in the same style, and between all three of them ONE was "chosen" to fill in the third spot at a certain performance, so it´s sometimes quite hard to distinguish between them if you watch a compilation of different performances. The other two "Avengers" were Riho Sayashi and Kano Fujihira.

Divine Attack as an early choice for a reaction when many of the more "established" Babymetal reactors (yeah, it's a thing) have yet to see it, I like that. Seems in keeping with your unique style which is good. It is evident that you do have a lot of questions and I know most of the answers will be coming from many key fans who endeavor to educate reactors which is great. It might be a little early for A Fox Song's recent "The not so Extensive Guide to Babymetal," or perhaps it is not. You be the judge. If you choose to do so, some do post a RT reaction to that. No question that Babymetal is a complex group with a complex backstory but I do wonder if getting some of those things answered might not make it easier to just enjoy the songs unencumbered.

The intros to their live songs are not only to set the mood but also give the girls a little break to catch their breath and get some water as you can see they are giving their all for every song. I do think the intros stand out as their own work of art, I could listen to whole album of just that.

Not necessarily "Combat" but whatever struggle you have, this is your time to go. "Karate" is a good one, not combat, but battle against yourself. "Iijme, Zettai, Dame!" is about stopping bullying. Not advocating fighting or combat in their songs. We are all "The One". Su- Metal can control the audience like no one else, she has been doing this since at least 2013. Keep learning and you will see that most (not all) songs are inspiration, believing in yourself.
