The big plus that you cannot ignore is that with the iPhone it is always in your pocket. If you suddenly see a great shot, Bingo - you got it. The old saying the best camera is the one that is in your hand at the time regardless of technical specs. I have been using the BMC app and that is a game changer for me. Recording proxy files to SSD really streamlines my workflow compared to my video camera shooting raw. I also invested in some of the new Moment lenses which really gives you an expanded capability. Still - you got to say Wow about the technology now available to you. Thanks for this review and comparison. Lots of food for thought.
Absolutely! The convenience of having the iPhone handy for those unexpected great shots is unbeatable.
A few years ago I would take a ZCam cinema camera with me on travels, but now I downsized my kit a lot, moreover I find myself taking the phone on travels more than a camera now, and that has a lot to do with the image quality to camera size ratio for sure.
For me iphone is the king for video right now, but it all has to do with the BM app for sure, having the option to film in Log but in H265 codec is gamechanging. For photos? Well idk really...
Throughout this year, there has not been a single video where I would not say that once apple adds manual mode to iphones camera-its unstoppable!

@@StevenDivish Even on something non-exciting as my morning exercise walk, suddenly I was confronted with an unique shot - magical lighting conditions or subject that when people saw the photos they were blown away bye them. The condition only lasted for a few minutes, but the iPhone got it which was most important since words could not even come close to describing it. Also agree on the need for a great photo App similar to BMC app. Something tells me it is only a matter of time in unlocking the full power of what we carry in our pocket everywhere.

Personally, the biggest advantage to me is the viewfinder on the iPhone. The Black Magic App’s excellent UI plus one of the largest, responsive and high fidelity touch screens you can find. You’d have to lug around a huge external monitor with a professional camera to get the same experience. Obviously for a professional a traditional camera will always make more sense. But for me, I like the modularity and convenience of filming and shooting with my iPhone.
Some unique winter scenes - something we rarely get to witness here! Make sure to watch the daytime frames with the bridge!
There's always room for a healthy debate! Is there any phone with a better zoom camera for filming videos right now than the iPhone 15 Pro Max?

Honestly I could tell which shot was which camera on all your comparisons. After the grade the sony footage just looks way richer in color and much sharper too
For decades I carried around a Pro DSLR and a Pair of Pro Lenses, first Nikon and then I moved to Sony mirrorless and their pro lenses. A few years ago I set those bags down and started traveling exclusively with my iPhone(s) I’ve got to say - I do not miss lugging that cumbersome gear around with me. Especially when I switched to shooting mostly videos.
Thanks for this comparison! I have to admit I was shocked at your comparisons. Granted, the iPhone’s cameras can’t compare with the depth of field produced by longer lenses. But when you put that aside - Apple has done something really wonderful with the iPhone 15 lens sets.
Let’s hope it forces Samsung to really step up their game with their new release. Competition is a good thing!

Hey! Thanks a lot! For video, I like the iPhone, and it's all because of the Black Magic app-it lets you film in log with a small file size. I guess apple couldn't add all these features in built in camera app themselves, so you would need a 3rd party app to make this phone great haha (although its a free app without any ads, so thats a +)
As for photos, it's def not an iphone due to the lack of manual settings, and it's super inconsistent, you know when making this video I had situations when I would take many different photos of the same subject in the span of 3-6 seconds, and all of them had different color temp.
Though I decided not to include it into this video since it would've been too long, but yeah, iPhone has yet to improve it's camera app.
So I'm still exploring the Pixel 8 Pro, testing it out a bit more. I've got a video in the works, diving into the details.

@@vikeshnarielwala6732 It depends on how much importance you give to photography... There are differences to a careful eye, if you are not a professional even the Plus is fine, the videos are comparable, the photos have excellent but lower quality, and you don't have the zoom.

Sony ZV-E1 actually has a really good stabilization. iPhone 15 Pro is king when it comes to mobile film. LOG 10bit is game changer IMHO.

As of right now it’s only 1 X or 2X in cinematic mode

once you zoom into 1.5 and above the 4K is blurry, it's not very crisp. I use it for my kids sports and it's just ok...

On the iphone 13 there are 1x and 3x and it seems the 15 ony has 1x and 2x but I can't find information why is that and if the 13 has an optical or digital zoom in the first place. I'm gonna try finding those videos, I just need that basic info of the zooms vailable on cinematic mode and if optical or digital across 13, 14, 15, pro and pro max.

Hmm, there's some truth to it, but just some.
Objectively, iPhone takes the crown for video, and that's a nod to the BM app, especially for its Log capability with the H.265 codec.
When it comes to photos, the iPhone falls short due to the lack of manual settings.
It's a bit frustrating, to be honest. While making this video, I faced situations where I took several shots of the same subject in a matter of seconds, and each one had a different color temperature.
I opted not to delve into this in the video to keep it concise, but it's an area where the iPhone camera app could certainly use some enhancements when compared to other competitors.

I had the Samsung S 23 ultra before the iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone for videos, it remains quite clearly superior...Personally I prefer it even for photos, even if it has the serious lack of a real Pro mode for photography...Also Samsug has the space zoom, which in the 10-30 X range, represents something incredibly unique in the smartphone panorama.
