@@joshvalentino I found the tape gun and its like $100 so I will probably stick to Hand Peel Stickers but I am thinking of getting a Tape gun used for Packing Boxes and just put thinner roll of tape on.. should work just wont be presized stickers.

I have had my Defender for about 3 months but been so busy I have not had a chance to mount it to my Hellcat yet. I absolutely love these drills and I’ll be mourning the optic and hitting the range this weekend. Great video.

Vortex needs to address a few thinks with this optic #1 the 14 hour shut down time with a shake to wake optic is foolish should be more like 10 minutes would make the battery last a lot longer. #2 need better refresh rate. #3 Most people cannot feel or hear any click on the elevation or windage knobs.

I went and got it at my local gun store love it love the size and the feel of the Contruction I don’t know about the refresh rate but for self defense the longest is durable and it feels durable and that it holds zero that’s the most important for me . Love the battery option on the top also . But I have one complain . I got it also because I want to support made in America Products I did not went with the Holosun because of that and my optic on the bottom
Had a sticker that said Made in China I was disappointed about that
The optic it’s self is made in America, it’s the rail that’s made in China
ok so far my Vortex Defender Red Dot Holding up really good Im loving in it, I like it better then my Holosun in some ways ,
I was told to zero at 20 yards is better than 10 yards for better accuracy. Is this true?
Why the 14hr run time for it to turn off?? Hopefully it's an issue that can be changed on the next one.
I am hearing the refresh rate of the dot is pretty noticeable with this optic when transitioning between targets. Any info on the refresh rate/your own experience?
There are some that notice the refresh flicker when focusing solely on the red dot during firing. What will help this (as with all other red dots and red dot shooting in general) is to remain target focused and bring the dot to your focal point on the target. We have been testing the Defender CCW here on the range for several months before the release and we saw no change in time or accuracy compared to our other red dots that we utilize on the range and in the field.
Is vortex going to make a larger optic for full size pistols?
We may in the future, but unfortunately we do not have anything larger right now.

We all typically run larger dots (6 MOA) on pistols, and smaller dots (3 MOA) on offset dots on carbines.

Hey @vortex do you have a way for the CCW dot to work with a Vortex Venom cut?
If you have a custom venom cut on a slide unfortunately it won't work. Wish we had better news!
You might want to reach out to AmerigunUSA as they have made adaptor plates in the past for RMR to Viper/Venom footprint.
Outter Impact carries a plate that will fit this. I had the Venom on my EDC prior to buying this one. The slide on the Sheild EZ is not optics ready, thank goodness for Outter Impact or my EDC would not have a red dot.
@@taraconard5896 That is also a great option for marrying up a New Defender CCW to a Venom slide cut.
All 4 of my vortex deffenders have failed me in the past few months. Just had one where the dot disappeared and have another one that wont hold zero at all!

I really want to want this optic. The 14 hr shake awake needs to be changed. An hour may even be too long tbh. That’s literally the only downfall in my book.

Anyone have suggestions for raised sights on a glock 43x MOS with the defender?
You should be able to co-witness with the stock irons, but if you want something taller I would head over to Ameri-Glo USA. They should have what you're looking for there.
Will the new defender work with 5 inch non compact Walther PDP?? Or is the defender more for compact conceal pistols??
It will work on the PDP, you will need to get a plate for the Shield RMS/RMSc

Any input on what brightness level is needed in bright sunlight? Especially on a while target for practice? I would like to know what the expected battery life is for the max setting, not a medium or just above medium. I realize there are different factors that affect battery life, but maybe X brand battery at 75 degrees, the battery life was X hrs or X days on Max setting with our testing. Any thoughts on this Vortex? I'd love to get one of these dots mainly because I love Vortex products, but I'm not sure it will replace what I'm using. Would like to see RMR footprint that fits on a Brownells Glock slide. CR2032 top load battery with close to a year at 80% brightness setting would be great, requested by someone who has no clue what it takes to design an optic. 😅
That is going to be dependent on all of the circumstances regarding ambient light and you will want to adjust to the brightness that you can clearly observe the dot. These new dots get nuclear bright so the brightest setting should not be needed unless the sun is imploding.
With a good 1632 battery you will see 150+/- hours on the highest setting which will only get better if you reduce the brightness, which you will likely want to as it will be burning a hole in your cornea (or at least feel like it). Setting 7 will yield 9300 hours and setting 8 will get you around 4000.
There are a lot of considerations when designing red dots especially for smaller pistols like the Glock 43 and Hellcats and if we could fit a larger batter within that space, we would.
@@vortexedge4492 I really appreciate that info!! there is so much speculation out there in video reviews. I live in a rural area where it simply isn't an option for me to get hands on a quality optic before I purchase, unless I make a 2 hour drive one way. I think I'm in the same boat with a lot of people who have to buy it and then try it. Its really nice to have some kind of idea what the higher brightness settings will get you, even if its just a rough guess. I understand you can't fit a larger battery in the form factor of the Defender, and I don't expect that. seeing that info above makes me a lot more interested in trying one out. *I see Brennan is using an M&P with a plate if I'm not mistaken, Does Vortex have any recommendations for a reputable company to mill a slide for this optic foot print?

Please fix that 14 hour sleep time. What’s the point of shake awake when the red dot never goes to sleep? Then this red dot might be able to compete with the battery life of the Holosuns.
