I’m a simple man.
I see Errik Ybarra posted and I click
Uploaded 18 seconds ago...I think you can tell how much I anticipate your videos 😅. God Bless Erick looking forward to have a listen.
Thank you kindly for your videos, Ybarra. Both you and Lofton were instrumental in my reconversion to Catholicism. Love you all and God bless you, brother.
I subscribed… and I’m on a journey at a fork between Eastern Orthodoxy & Rome. Currently I’m a happy Protestant at a low church but see God use my Pastor in pouring in my families life and ministered in times of crisis.
I have been listening to Hank Unplugged Podcasts with Hank Hanegraaf and his interview with Fr. John Strickland a historian and was truly amazed. Regarding Church History and will get his 5 books on The Age of Division, volume two of history of Christendom, Building on The Age of Paradise, it carries the story of the rise and fall of what the West once was beyond the first millennium. But then I saw your interview with Gavin and was intrigued about Catholicism and your journey.
I just found out by my Mom that I the first born out of all my four siblings was Baptized as an infant in the Catholic Church in Boston, Massachusetts before they became Protestant in a Pentecostal church.
I will take it slow and continue on this journey and will be consuming your content and Hank Hanegraaf from Christian Research institute on CZcams. And will let the Holy Spirit guide me and my family.
P.S I told my wife about my journey and she said Catholic!!!! They are idolaters 🤦🏻♂️ maybe do a video on this because I didn’t have a reply.
All I said was “God has his people in all churches just as there are tares in all churches”. I just want to experience the fullness of what God has on earth such as the Eucharist which is new to me.
I literally sit down, emptied my brain, thought about some things for 3 minutes and decided “okay this is dumb”
Bit busy now but saving for later :) Thanks for all the work you do Erick, and your great witness!
Love your videos Erick. Look forward to one on your experience as an Anglo Catholic. Also hanging out for your papacy book! (The justification one sounds great too)
Yes that will be out tomorrow. Or the next day. I know the next video will cover the next step in my Protestant deconstruction
@@Erick_Ybarra Awesome! Can't wait. The point you made about excommunication in a Protestant context is simple but really profound. One could get excommunicated from one local church due to not submitting on a particular issue and subsequently become a member of another church that holds a different perspective. This seems antithetical to scriptural and patristic tradition. I'm sure that learned Protestants have nuanced and thoughtful explanations of how one can make sense of these kinds of situations but I do find the issue perplexing and problematic.
Thanks for sharing your experience Erick. Looking forward to more content on the channel and written, especially your book on the Papacy.
Wow Erick, this story is such an amazing parallel to what I've been through.
Almost everything with church discipline, the verses that are used, how they are used, is what I've went through.
For me it wasn't on justification, but I was doing research into Catholicism as I did with most religions I was against and would encounter
while evangelising (I wished to properly steel-man the other sides).
Yet during my journey (which I'm still in I've yet to be formed), I encountered so many arguments that we used against Catholicism that either weren't true at all,
or they could be true (but also could not be true).
When sharing my findings with the two elders a lengthy 4 hour discussion ensued in which they were attacking all kinds of Catholic dogma's, like
- Mary couldn't be ever virgin because she had children
- Purgatory diminishes Christs justification
And many more.
And while at the time I was still more investigative on these matters, I still told them there are different ways to look at it and requested them to help me.
The next day I was ex-communicated (after they gave me an ultimatum), they always just veto'ed, because they themselves were two witnesses.
They just skip leading me in front of the church.
The ultimatum was:
- Stop doing your research in Catholicism because satan is deceiving you.
- Reject all Catholic doctrine.
Just like you I tried to be as humble as I could, and I was like okay, I'm humble enough to admit I might be deceived and stop investigating.
But what I can't do is reject all Catholic doctrine, because for doing this, I'd have to know it.
Else I'd be deciding the truth beforehand, instead of learning the truth.
So I said based on the latter that they asked me something I was unable to do, and then I got ex-communicated.
It has been a painful experience.
In one day I lost all my brothers and sisters there, they ignored me, blocked me, even a good friend I had before who said that he would still see me changed his mind.
The funny thing is, I knew beforehand this was going to happen.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your story Erick, I find it a great support to see what you went through!
friend, rather than biting off entirely too much info at once, how about starting with basics.
does a Christian imitate Christ? -- catholicism does not.
does a Christian show love to Christ and obey Christ? -- catholicism does not.
does a Christian follow God's Ten Commandments, showing we walk in Truth? -- not them.
i know it's a lot, but when you start with a foundation of Truth -- it shows us clearly that this system is simply not Christianity.
questions welcomed and encouraged, Sir/Ma'am.
thanks for reading.
Hey @@tony1685 ,
I'm not really interested in asking you questions.
You have been refuted countless times by a lot of people, I believe even including myself.
SDA is a false teaching, and is not part of the Faith.
@@sotem3608 the topic here is what the Bible clearly reveals -- not about me.
does a catholic imitate Christ by not keeping the Ten Commandments?
which of these would you like the Bible to prove to you, Sir?
and no, these have never been 'refuted' because Scripture is clear and precise.
@@tony1685 no it isn't your interpretation is wrong.
Based on the clear reading of scripture.
So instead of wasting your time deceiving people into leaving the true Church, it would be best leave your fake SDA "church" and join the One True Faith.
@@sotem3608 could be my interpretation -- thanks for that!
perhaps you can make it easy for me to grasp -- tell me friend, what does John 14:15 mean?
a) we ignore the Commands we don't like?
b) we keep all Ten Commandments, showing we love Jesus Christ?
c) we tamper with the Commands we don't agree with?
d) insert your theory or that of your 'church' here.
you stated that i've been deceived and refuted -- please prove this to me then.
simply answer this very direct, very clear question for me.
thanks in advance!
Wow that was really cool to hear. Journeys are vast and different. Definitely considering getting your books now, especially the papacy one as currently that is my topic of interest, but I’m beginning to be compelled to explore the other subjects. Filioque is a subject I’ve been hesitant to tackle since I know there’s a ton on it.
Thanks for all your in depth wisdom. Enjoy you on Reason and Theology and now I have find you here. So excited for extra Erick :)
Great video. I was raised Anglican, then turned Agnostic, then Reformed before finally becoming Catholic. Your story resonated with me. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks much for this video.
Simple and straight answer is Jesus is Jewish messiah and he didn't start a new religion but instituted natural continuation of Judaism under the new covenant with his salvation for entire mankind and his first followers were all Jews and they started this new covenant Judaism with the basic traditions like tabernacle alter menohra priesthood intact and eucharist as the new passover ritual which nobody disputes until the satanic cult of sola scriptura a man made tradition invented by a devil possessed man was introduced just five hundred years ago
Thank you for sharing parts of your journey.
Great talk!
Pray for me dear brother, I am still unlearning Protestant thinking.. yet still in the very-angry phase.. very angry at having been taught that the reformers were men of God, while Patristics were shut out…
Along with many other things….
Bible should be what dictates where you go, friend.
learn what the protest was/is all about.
catholicism is simply not Christianity, according to the true accounts of history and all accounts of the Word of God.
@@tony1685 You and 30,000+ split other factions that cannot agree on much of anything, between yourselves.
Under the umbrella of Protestantism, there are far too many contradictory beliefs, all claiming “Sola Scriptura”

paragraph 1 -- irrelevent.
paragraph 2 -- can you tell me what's comparable to God's Word?
paragraph 3 & 4 -- nothing you posted addressed what i wrote.
@@tony1685 You deciding that something is irrelevant or not is quite humorous considering subjective nominalism that possessed your founding pope who established your whole framework for understanding the Bible.
But when he presented “sola scriptura” he and the other reformers were utilizing a 73 book Bible…
Lutherfer translated those inspired writings into his German Bible.
But your “Confession of Faith” Westminster “creed” says different, that they are not inspired but “good for studying…”
But, Scottish Bible Society said it’s sinful for you to read as a Protestant… mid-late 1800s:
Bye-bye, a chunk of theology missing.
Like getting sent into battle with LESS ARMOR/WEAPONRY…

@@History_MadeMe_Catholic it was not relevent to our discussion -- what others do.
there are 2 denominations -- those who obey and meet His requirements -- and those who don't.
no 'popes' had anything to do with the Christian Bible.
in fact, there are no 'popes' in all Christianity.
paragraph 2 -- clearly you haven't read apocrypha. it's contradictory to Scripture.
3 -- ok. i am no lutheran.
4, 5, 6 -- still not my business.
when you're ready to discuss Scripture, let me know!
how about you actually address this -- does a Christian keep God's Ten -- as John 14:15 -- shows us, in Jesus' own Words?
or do they not?
Fantastic Eric. Keep these coming.
Stoked for the new book idea!
Very interesting. Thanks Eric.
Thanks for sharing, Eric. I saw your interview on Pints with Aquinas as well, and greatly appreciate how charitable you are in interacting with other traditions. Have you read much of the Federal Vision crowd? Peter Leithart, Doug Wilson, James Jordan, Rich Lusk, etc. Would be interested in your thoughts on them. Maybe you've written on the subject elsewhere or done a video somewhere. Would appreciate links if you have. God bless, brother.
Hi Jack. Yes , I am familiar. I remember the Leithart trial. I will touch on it in tomorrows video.
love these vids, erick
Great testimony. The more I research the more it becomes clear that no one really knows what is and is not correct doctrinal interpretation. It is all opinions. Your example with your Baptist church was very apt. How can normal folks even begin to try getting to grips with all this. It is literally impossible imo which means apostolic successional authority is necessary to avoid chaos, but then what about Vatican II which is practically Protestantism? Jesus said his yoke was light. It can't be this hard. Can it?
Thanks for listening! I have a few more videos (hopefully shorter!) to explain the next steps of my journey. This one about justification was just the first cause for wonder, but I stayed Protestant for years after it. Stay tuned for more to come!
Your journey sounds like you used the Catholic Presuppositionalist method. Have you heard of Jeremiah Bannister?
Yes I am friends with him on FB. We get along very well. I think it was he who I first had expressed that the debate between Jay Dyer and myself was not, ultimately, a matter of classical foundationalism vs. Presuppostional coherentism, for my position could have been followed through in either paradigm. However, I do lean towards classical apologetics these days. But I also dont think that I espouse that which would enter the pitfalls most generally thought to lie beneath typical foundationalist arguments
@@Erick_Ybarra that is very interesting
I really love your channel! Thank you so much for these videos Erick! It is definitely the best Catholic channel here on youtube and so underrated. I plan on purchasing your books on the filioque and papacy. I have one question: What is the musical composition that is played in your intros? It is very beautiful.

What about the view that sanctification is the work of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life POST JUSTIFICATION and that this process lasts throughout the individual’s natural life? And also Election of course.
Your audio is very low compared to other videos on CZcams. You might want to check your volume levels on some kind of software tool to make sure you are loud enough.
Hopefully I'll get around to seeing your videos on the Papacy. BTW, I know your papacy book talks a lot about the Fathers, but how much does it talk about the scriptural case?
Hi! So the Papacy book is entitled "The Papacy: Revisiting the Debate between Catholics and Orthodox" . And so it is mainly devoted to history, theology, philosophy, and the epistemology that is related to this unique debate. With that said, I devote about 25 pages to the Papacy in Scripture.
@@Erick_Ybarra Thanks for the reply! Yeah that makes sense. There's a lot of other books that deal with the papacy in scripture specifically, so it's helpful that you're focusing on history.
@@shlamallama6433 The Scriptural case is made very well in the book "Pope Peter", which I highly recommend.
@@anthonymarchetta8796 yet there are numerous reasons the Bible shows us that Peter couldn't have been a 'pope'.
I’m a Reformed pastor who rejects imputation. We are few. Here is a quote from Calvin that helped me reconsider the issue. He also call baptism regeneration because it is the point in which our sins are washed.
“I interpret repentance as regeneration, whose sole end is to restore in us the image of God . . . we are restored by this regeneration through the benefit of Christ into the righteousness of God . . . And indeed this restoration does not take place in one moment or one day or one year; but through continual and sometimes even slow advances God wipes out in his elect the corruptions of the flesh, cleanses them of guilt, consecrates them to himself as temples, renewing all their minds to true purity that they may practice repentance throughout their lives and know that this warfare will only end at death” (3.3.9).
do you accept the Ten Commandments of our Creator, kent?
Third comment, bronze medal
@YAJUN YUAN next time I'll try better ;)
Do we have to have all of our theology correct in order to make heaven??
Just asking?

You took a lot of time to question protestantism. One only needs to see the canon and the doctrine of sola scriptura are not in the bible to realize the arbitrariness of protestantism
