    Subbed. I've always wanted to get myself an Audio Technica for gaming. I used to own a pair of SJ11s back when I was in high school, but only used it for listening to music. I got tired of the thought of buying another flagship gaming headset that are usually overpriced nowadays just for them to break on me after a few years and this review really helped me to pick which M--x to get. Thanks a bunch!

    Keep up the great work! I own the Audio Techica ATH-AD500X and just recently bought the Philips 9500's. I play COD Bo3 and the positional audio in the Philips is a lot better than the AD500x's. For music they both sound great but for hearing footsteps and gaming, I love the Philips 9500's. I was considering the M40x's but I'm really happy with the 9500's sound and comfort. They are now my daily's. Love your reviews, keep them coming!

    Just received a pair of these from Prime today, the first thing I did was get rid of the two little nubs that control the locking jack socket. I did this for two reasons: 1) I have wrecked enough headphones by snagging the wire and 2) this is the only way I can get my shorter lead to fit, this is a lead with controls on it (vol up/down skip and pause).
    Loving them so far and am listening to this through them :-) Thumbs up.

    So, I want to buy these headphones for listening music, most of the time outside ( Bus , walking, etc) Won't the cable be a bit annoying , considering how long it is? Is the other cable better? Is there any cable that I can buy that isn't that long? Great review btw.

      @TechHyped  Před 6 lety +1

      Mateo Peña yes, yes and yes. As TheChazas pointed out in his comments, there are a couple of options you can get on Amazon for cables that'll do the trick. The original cable is definitely made for studio use. Well, this is an awesome headphone overall, but its not reeeally desinged for on-the-go usage. Its just portable/foldable which makes it easy to carry, while stored away in a backpack and stuff.

      @@mereview2615 After a couple of months i returned both of them. m40x sound was overall great, abit too heavy bass-wise for my taste. But main reason for refund was the small size of earcups. Started to feel pain after a few hours and wasnt a pleasent feeling. Modmic just wasnt made for my harsh handling and fell all the time, great sound quality though. Ended up buying Sennheiser GAME ONE. Lightweight, openback, not so heavy bass, frame bends and doesnt make plastic screeching noises, great mic sound quality and really like its mic mute function.

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 4 lety

      I personally never had issued with footsteps on the SHP, but I get your point... open back makes it different. I would go for a proper headset like the pc37x (equivalent to the Sennheiser Game One)... It’ll be a better and more practical setup for gaming directly. The m40x can be a bit shallow on the earcups and you might find it too hard hittin’ on the base, but its quite well balanced overall... I would suggest the 37x instead of the 40x + a modmic tho!

    I'm about to buy this headphones for music production (rap/trap mostly), listening to music and gaming, would you recommend this? I really like a bass sound, but don't need it exagerated because mixing. And what about soundstage in FPS like cs:go and valorant?

      @TechHyped  Před 4 lety +2

      fff west brooo! Sorry for the delay, hehe.
      Yeah, I’d say these are quite awesome for that. In the closed-back world, I honestly think its either these or a good pair of IEMs, really.
      There are flipping excellent imho. For gaming the imaging is quite accurate and the sound stage isn’t faking wideness, so for competitive gaming in cs:go, valorant etc it wont interfere with you knowing or understanding the environment.
      There ARE a looooot of people who suggest switching the pads for something a bit stiffer and deeper, not for comfort, but to sort of give them a bit more stage and MAAAAYBE a deeper bass, but its not gonna transform them into something great. They are pretty great already ;)
      And chill, bro! Your english is just fine!

      lol You know it's true.
      Plenty of people get hyped into buying the M50s because of their reputation for sounding 'awesome for the price'. Then they end up enjoying them because, having been using crappy headphones all their life, they don't have anything better to compare them to.
      Like the M70s, the M50s are more of a downgrade than an upgrade.

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 7 lety +3

      +Valkiron well, I clearly agree with you. But such is the nature of technology products in general. It's only after you're already *in* that you build up a better understanding of how everything works, how to properly measure quality (in your own perspective) and where the stuff you're using stand compared to everything else.
      In between all that, brand, reputation and hype play a huge part... More so in the beginning of that cycle, obviously.

      They need better pads, this is the most important and it adds a bit to the cost, but sound and comfort upgrade is unbelievable, because stock pads are like 2cm thick at max, never seen slimmer pads. T50RP MK3 are so clear you would not believe it, even the bass. Forgot to mention, look for MK3 version only and most importantly, they are very demanding with theirs Planar Magnetic Drivers so Phone or a Laptop won't be enough.

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 6 lety +1

      Alright, adding at least a "nice" amp to the mix along with some extra pads. I've been craving to test some Planars for quite some time... Thanks again dude!

    • @TheChazas
      @TheChazas Před 6 lety +2

      Tried them paired with Dragonfly v1.5 DAC/AMP plugged to Lumia 950 and it was very loud and clear, which I really did not expect to, because its been said that they are "very demanding"... but still I truly believe it was not enough to liven them up, definitely they would drive a lot better with better gear, with at least something like Micca Origen+ or even with SMSL M3. Really am hyped about T50RP now, for the price. they are really exceptional, plus they are very customizable with mods, pads and internal foams, closing vents and so on. Read about pads for them, pads are must right out of the box, seeing them would make it obvious, read at head-fi and saw in review, to not go with very thick pads, I mean "mad thick' they will ruin the sound, best suggestion was various from Shure, perfect fit, quality and most importantly perfect for headphones sound improvement, love Shure pads on SHP9500.

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 6 lety +1

      I crossed the Dragonfly from what I could get borrowed from a couple of friends right off the bat because I figured it wouldn't even power it... Surprised to hear (read) they did! @@ I'll try them out with something else that has more of a punch to it tho!
      Thanks for the pointers! ps: Shure pads are dope AF. I ordered a new pair of SHPs just to mod them with new pads and scraping off the big R/L on the sides like you suggested a while back. Something went wrong with the order, but I'm still grabing a new pair to keep alongside the originals after this...
      Gotta focus on the Fostex 1st or my wallet is gonna come alive and beat some sense into my skull!

  • @MrNiceHk
    @MrNiceHk Před 5 lety +1

    Hey Mate,
    Got another question for you, not sure if you can answer. So I have got Tidal HiFi on trial and I am really impressed. I played a couple of tracks back to back with spotify and Tidal HiFi and for me there is a major difference in quality. Wondering about how to get the best out of it. I believe only the desktop app can run Master Level so when I connect my headphones to laptop via my Soundkey I am pretty sure I am getting that level. Here is the question. I have a Asus Mini PC connected to my TV which is connected to a Sonos 5.1, 1 Playbar, 1 Sub, and 2 Play3 rears, the sound for music anyway is actually very good. When I use the desktop app in the Asus, it shows Master Level lit up, and it does sound awesome but I wondering am I getting Master or does it need to go through an amp and then onto the Sonos. I mean ultimately the sound is brilliant, but I suppose there are levels to everything and you dont know what you dont know, likewise if you never hear the best quality you are not going to miss it or know that its missing ... if that makes sense ... vias the headphones I am pretty sure I am maxed out ... via my Sonos I read somewhere that Sonos does not support MQA ... which confused me no end , but thinking about it I suppose MQA is a format, so the speakers downgrade the sound if they dont support the codec ?

    • @MrNiceHk
      @MrNiceHk Před 5 lety +1

      agggggggghhh I can see my Soundkey is not MQA compatible, I take solace in the fact that MQA is not supported on mobiles

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 5 lety

      @@MrNiceHk How is your own response to your previous comment OLDER??? CZcams comment section going BANANAS on me already!
      I'm going to cheat on this one because there's way too much info you can dig through on MQA, but this should help: www.whathifi.com/advice/mqa-audio-what-it-how-can-you-get-it
      But long-story-short, MQA is a compression tech (compression in the sense of data compression... think "ZIP" or "RAR") for audio that can be placed/stored inside a lossless type of audio format, such as FLAC, for example, and then once played/unpacked, it fills up the host file with DOPE quality sound information. That means this is a software game. Your hardware, pretty much doesn't matter what it is, just needs to be powerful enough to run the software that can interpret and play back/stream this sort of high end stuff.
      There are portable players out there already that CAN do this, and if could manage to get a desktop-grade app capable of dealing with these files on your phone, even that should work... But I guess you get the picture.
      I totally agree with you on the "if you don't know there's something better than what you have outside of your box, you won't miss as you won't even know it's there to be missed". Totally makes sense, and there are obviously barriers to how much we can appreciate music and sound that are not "overcomeable" without drastic jumps in gear/hardware.
      Your speakers don't do anything to the quality of the MQA/Flac/Lossless files... What will determine the quality coming out of your speakers (considering the speakers are of GOOD quality, with extra room to breathe/work) is the source and the DAC/AMP system in the way, pushing the source to the speakers. Doesn't matter if it's MQA or just a very very VERY good quality MP3. In your case, lets say your Asus mini PC can deal with the MQA files/hifi files and push them out, unless the Sonos are already at their top-end with no extra headroom to spare, you should see at least some evolution in the quality (overall). And again, lets say the Sonos have like A LOT of headroom to spare, maybe having another dac/amp in the middle could leverage that to an even higher degree.

    • @MrNiceHk
      @MrNiceHk Před 5 lety +1

      Tech Hyped cool thank for that I did some more research, it seems Sonos support Flac but not MVQ which I see many people have big problems with. I am more than happy with FLac, MQA would wasted on a philistine like me, the sound waves would literally return to source than enter my fast food grade ear canals. Man there is a whole another world when it comes to sound, I feel Like I have just stepped through the wardrobe into another world. What are your thoughts on Tidal? Also have you ever reviewed the LG V30 a lot of audiophiles love that phone and I believe it can handle MQA natively

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 5 lety

      @@MrNiceHk hahahaha... Yeah, When you start down this path, a bunch of stuff feels like it's "too good for you", lol!
      I never used Tidal to be honest, but I've been thinking about it because of the Hifi stuff, just didn't pull the trigger yet, and I didn't get a chance to try the V30, but the V40 keeps the awesome quad dac and it makes a HUGE difference! I like the direction LG's going, kinda, but the V40 still didn't do it for me.
      Didn't manage to review the V40, only used it for a couple of hours from an acquaintance of mine, but the V50 coming, its already in my list of must-review, especially tied to the whole excellent audio thing.

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 6 lety +3

      Honestly, your motherboard should be more than OK, but just to clarify the options a bit, a DAC is a Digital to Analog Converter, so a DAC plain and simple will do zero difference in being able to drive your headphones or not. You'd need a DAC or audio interface that has at least some measurement of amplification.
      Not the situation, but just to clarify! ;D

      @TechHyped  Před 5 lety +1

      If you're like, super super into closed back headphones, upgrades would be something like the Monolith M1060c, AKG K553 MKII, BeyerDynamic DT 770 Pros... Stuff like that.
      You'd be getting into the realm of stuff that benefits GREATLY (or NEED!) dacs and amplifiers tho... Upgrading from the M40X within the closed back world means you'll probably have to take quite a leap "forward".
      Depending on how much you enjoy music/sound/headphones, that might be something that you're into, but for more casual use, not sure if it would be worth it (money-wise) ;)

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 5 lety

      Hey mate! Well, sound-quality isn't a match... M40X all the way! It's not a bassy headphone, but it has more low-end than the m50x and the clarity of it all is oooh yes... Great!
      Now, considering mic quality, you can either grab a cable with an in-line mic for the m40x, which would be possibly worse than the mic on the Alphas, or go for something like an AntLion ModMic 4 or 5 or the new wireless one - the 5 being RIDICULOUS as to how good it sounds... geez! - Unfortunately because of the connection, you wouldn't be able to use a V-Moda Boom Pro tho.
      Lastly, comfort-wise, the M40X may be a hit or a miss for you. For me, it's quite alright and I don't have problems with the earpads, but many many MANY people exchange the pads for something else, usually thicker options like Brainwavez stuff.

    Hi there!
    I just got myself this pair of headphones. My use for them is gonna be with my desktop computer. At the same time I did purchase an headphone amp using an 6,3mm output for the headphones, for about 50€. Now here is where it gets tricky. Because the moment I connect my headphones to the amp, while the amp is connected to the power outlet on the wall, I get massive amounts of static noise. It has nothing to do with the computer connection what so ever, since the static noise is there before it’s even connected. So what I’m basically asking is. Is there even any reason for me to be using an amp for these headphones? If so, you have any suggestions to how I may fix my problem? :DD

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 4 lety +1

      That seems to be a ground issue... The amp is plugged to the wall, I take it, since you said it's got static even before connecting to the pc, which means there's something going on with the power delivery.
      Could be something shorting or in need of more isolation within the AMP. OR, if that happens when you turn the volume all the way up, that can also be just a limitation of the AMP and it's passing a bit of hissing/static to the headphones because of the sheer volume.
      Anyway, not really. The M40X will benefit from a good, clean dac/amp as basically every headphone ever, but you shouldn't need one to drive those properly. ;)

    • @Maxieriksson
      @Maxieriksson Před 4 lety +1

      Tech Hyped well alright then. Looks like I might have some testing to do. The only thing I can imagine the problem being, is the power adapter for the amp. Since the static noise is there even when the sound is cranked all the way down.

    should i get this or the m30x? is the price difference worth it?

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 6 lety

      Well, that kind of depends a bit more on how much would you be willing to part ways with $30 for the "convenience" of removable cables and a biiiit less bass.
      To be honest, depending on the source, I found the m30x to have more and sometimes less bass than the m40x, so lets call it even, while the soundstage is ever-so-slightly damper.
      Bigger pads are a joy to use on either and imaging in very close on both.
      TL:DR - What can you do with $30? Is the removable cable important to you? The slightly better (different?) soundstage and more "controlled" bass that don't fluctuate between higher and lower makes me prefer the m40x, but both are amazing performers. o/

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 6 lety

      Sup, Sal!... or Paul? SP? Anyway...
      The M100's are bassier headphones, and the m40x sounds a bit better.. BUT... Unless you're totally displeased with your M100s, I wouldn't tell you to cash out another $100 for the m40x... The investment on the m100 is 2.5x higher and you already made it. V-Moda does some pretty good stuff, like the Boom Pro and cables. Headphone-wise, they are good, but not the best to my tastes.
      If you can grab a pair of m40x to test out for a couple of days, that would be best.
      Then, if you find the increment in sound quality, comfort (depending on your love for clamping force) and the less aggressive bass to your liking, keep the m40x, sell the m50 and the m100 and pocket the difference!

    Finally! Would be really nice to see a M40X vs CB-1 in depth review. In addition, there is a really nice, good build quality cables for M40X/M50X (2.5mm that goes in) on Amazon, but there is a really good mod too, just open up a headphone and change an adapter with 3.5mm instead of 2.5mm so you can use any 3.5mm high quality and length cable you want, in the end it is even cheaper and you are open with millions of cable options. M40X are absolutely amazing headphones (sound wise), but it needs a couple of mods, then it competes in a 200+ $ and beyond range.

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 7 lety +1

      Dude! I told you it was coming hehe o/
      I'll try and get a more in depth comparison with the CB-1... You can hold me to it!
      The spare cables you can get on Amazon (for instance) are cool but it's more like you said, with a 3.5mm jack you're not limited anymore, and you can have your setup ready with cables plugged in and swap your headphones quick and easy.
      The M40X are a great case for Headphone modding because, if you feel like you need or want to, you basically can and usually without much effort, which always good!
      Well, despite all those points I didn't cover completely (or at all), hope you enjoyed the video. It was a quick one, but quite fun to get the mind back in the game.

    • @TheChazas
      @TheChazas Před 7 lety +3

      There can be done a lot of mods, for aesthetics, practicality, comfort, improving sound. Most important basically would be sound and comfort, for that, definitely thicker/bigger pads, that will give a better seal and a bit more dynamic distance from the driver, you will get a better soundstage, and slightly better bass because of the seal and will be way comfier. A good thing for Audio-Technicas is adaptor mod, because you are stuck with AT 2.5mm jack, mod allows you to use any 3.5mm cable you like, by changing internal jack plugin adaptor, i think there are videos on youtube how to do it, otherwise check out head-fi.org or other websites.

They are dirt cheap here in Hong Kong right now, not sure if you said this or someone else but the line was unless you are spending $1500 on your cans these ones hit the mark. @TechHyped  Před 5 lety

      Hey dude! 1st off, thanks! Welcome aboard ;)! 2nd, how much is dirt cheap for these cans over there in HK? I'm usually not super into closed back cans and these hit the mark for me like big time... When I published this video, the M1060C from Monoprice wasn't a thing, yet, so unless you were spending a looooooooot of cash on über-high-end cans, these were the perfect spot.
      When you say M3, you mean the 1000xM3, right? In that case, thats a VERY different beast. Bluetooth, noise canceling, sort'a premium feeling but more plasticky than the M2s (due to less metal in the build). The sound signature is alright, bassier than the M40x, but doesn't sound as good... Definitely. The focus of the M3 is 100% the noise canceling.
      Plus, its like over 3x more expensive (at least in U$ prices).
      The M40X is a studio monitor, so even if you're using both for the same applications (none of them being Studio work, by the way), the M40X is still a better sounding pair.
      For flights tho, the M3 is awesome haha. I like the QC35 a bit better and wanna test out the new Microsoft Studio headphones as well, but yeah, that's sort of a very specific reason for grabbin a pair of headphones hehe ;)

      @@MrNiceHk HAHAHAHHAA! Dude, I'm laughing probably more than I should right now hadhsuauhdad.. I went through the same process when I started all this youtube thing (well, a bit before). You'll need to find strength within yourself not to go overboard! hehehehe ;)
      Well, I'll try to be as helpful as I can in one stroke... In my head, that sentence was like "challenge accepted!" o7 LETS GO!
      1 - Do you have an audio interface? External audio cards will output much greater quality audio than onboard ones. If you don't, and have no need for something like a Scarlet 2i2 for example, do check DACs before moving over the Amps. That will make the biggest difference as to sound quality. Since you're starting your trip down audiophilie-lane, a FiiO D3 should be great for startes. If you find an O2 Dac or a Schiit Modi for less than $100, get either... They are "end-game" worthy to a very high degree. Are there more expensive and better ones? Yes! Do you need them? Thats REEEEEALLY questionable. I'd say nope at least while you're not pushing $1800 cans.
      2 - Amps... Ooooh this is an interesting one. I mean, without a good dac, a good amp is almost money wasted. Still, all the cans we're talking about here are easy to drive enough, so Amps would be almost overkill anyway. That said, if you wanna see what a good amp can do, one that doesn't distort audio, doesn't get weird when pushed hard and can power basically EVERYTHING? Try the SMSL SAP VI.... It's usually less than $45, its tiny and powerful to no end!
      3 - Cans... Alright, let's kick the door down right in the first sentence: wanna go "end-game" right in the 1st try? Massdrop Sennheiser HD58X Jubilee!
      Review incoming on this one to the channel, but HOT DAMN... $150 cans that sound like much much MUCH more expensive ones. It's the same story as the SHP9500 ans the M40X to be fair, but the Jubilees are in an even higher standard. All three are absolutely crazy good for how much they cost (msrp at least). The SHP is the most comfortable of all three, but they are a very loose kind of headphone. If you like to have a bit of a grip going on, M40X or Jubilees.
      The M40x is the only closed one, and they are amongst the only ones that don't get me "claustrophobic" while gaming or listening to music/movies. they have less amplitude to the sound because of that closed back design.
      The Jubilees are basically a HD660s clone with a little extra foam between the driver and the cage outside the earcups. That gives it a bit more low end (super enjoyable, by the way) and it has excellent sound stage and phenomenal (off the charts phenomenal) imaging.
      The ShPs have the larger soundstage of the three, but with excellent imaging, good amount of bass and not really much that one could complain about.
      Choosing between these 3, for me, would come down to Closed V Open. If you go for Open, the SHPs are amazing, and the HD58X is end-game-like... And they are probably the best bets for FPS gaming (I play competitive/semi-pro overwatch... Alright, I try to, at least =P) probably with the 58X being a bit better in that regard vs the SHPs.
      I'd get both just because... Hell, I got both of them on my table, one on each side. Sometimes when I just wanna chill, the SHPs are like listening to a fluffy cloud that sounds really really good.
      Oh, and all three can be powered by your smartphone... My Pixel 2 XL with that ridiculous dongle and no internal DAC powers even the 58X just about as well as you'd need them to.
      Phew! Challenge completed! o/

      The m40x doesn't NEED an amp, but it could benefit from one, even if you'd use the amp super super low because of how easy to drive these are. Still, I believe a good/better dac would be more beneficial.
      Again, you don't NEED any of that for the m40x anyway, but if your PC's onboard sound card isn't at least very very very good (because that would mean it's "ok" when comparted to an external one), get an external DAC to begin with! ;)

      Sidd Maria geez, sorry to hear that. I didn't think it would be that apparent, but bigger headphones do kind of feel less "loud" than earbuds and the likes that come with our smartphones theses days so I guess its understandable.
      Well, you mean something portable you can literally take with you and plug in between the m40x and your phone? Or something you can plug your phone in to at home, on a desk... and thats a dumber question than it sounded in my head.....
      I'll look a couple up just to give you options, but I've heard wonders (from other people) about the FiiO A3 and I've liked the results of the OPPO HA-2! You'd probably be fine with any of the 2.

Unfortunately I can't return these since a seller from Amazon has refused. I'm very disheartened. I'm. Doing all types of searches trying to educate myself about this thing call amplifiers. Sidd Maria well, a portable Amp like the ones I mentioned will do the trick, as will a hifi portable mp3 player like the FiiO X3, but my take on it is whats the simplest solution... You'll be taking 2 things with you anyway, and the portable amp means you'll use your phones library anyway, organizing everything in one place only. A hifi mp3 player would mean a second library to update and tinker with, not to mention limited access to things like spotify, if you use it. I'd go for the Amp, personally. Hope this was somewhat helpful!

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 3 lety +1

      That second question I think is the more telling one... I mean, Audio is an expensive and almost infinite hobby, and wether or not it's worth it to get another headphone or not for your "collection", it's got more to do with what you wanna have available to you.
      If you're looking for the "one and only", then it will take you time to actually test headphone after headphone to find your sweet-spot and then, once and if you find it, stick to it and sell everything else...
      On the other hand, if you wanna have multiple headphones for different scenarios, WELL, m40x + shp9500 = great "starter" combo. Great closed back + great open back = great combo.
      If you're not in a hurry, I'd save up for a 58X instead of the 6xx (my personal preference, as I think the 58X is a better headphone and extremely close to the HD660s), and substitute the 850, IF you wanna replace it for a "better" open-back pair.

I like gaming with them when open back isn't an option. The Hyper X series is good, for gaming headsets, but not all of them are up there.

      As far as volume is concerned, that may have to do with your phone, per say. My old OnePlus 3T could drive these and the SHPs a hell of a lot better than my Pixel 2 does, and the Galaxy S8 used to be in between.
      Still, the M40X does sound "louder" than the SHPs because of the closed-off nature, and from my experience, most phones could power it properly... Even if volume is something a bit more personal ;/

      Ok, ok, I have to be honest and point that after using the TRX00 Ebonys for several months, I've grown more "fond" of well done/balanced bass. Back when I recorded THIS review, heavier bass usually annoyed me as it always seemed fake, over the original sound from the song or game or whatever.
      Now, that said, the 770Pro isn't fake sounding and does an excellent job with the sub-bass and the overall bass response, yes, but I still think the M40X is an excellent (ex-ce-llent) closed back headphone for the price (and it's less expensive than the 770pro as well), but the signature is flatter.
      I'd say it does a significantly better job with the mid-range, and there's the sibilance in the high-end of the 770 that some people don't like. Its there, not something that's a deal breaker (for me, at least), and doesn't detract from the top-notch audio, but the 40X has been a more pleasing headphone for me over the years.
      And if I want more bass, I'll just go for the X00 Ebonys, hehe ;)

      @TechHyped  Před 5 lety

      If I understood the question correctly, I'd say the major "problem" with using headphones with smartphones, is the Phone's capability to actually power the headphones properly.
      In this new age where the 3.5mm jack is basically gone from all flagships, we've been seeing less and less phones with Dacs, and even less dedicated high bit ones at that. LG's V series and the Razer Phone 2 spring to mind with above average dedicated Dacs, and iPhones also have good(ish) ones, but for both the Razer and the iPhone, you still need a dongle.
      But that's it, really. If your phone has enough power to drive headphones, awesome. If not, well... You can always spring for a dedicated portable music player that can do the job... Or a portable dac/amp to connecto to your phone and then to your Headphones....
      This is getting out of hand, as you can tell. haha

      Well... Yeah, I guess I am... Kindly, obviously! =P...
      But before you send me any death threats, even tho I haven't used the Astro a40 for a long time, you're basically comparing it, which is a HeadSET, to a studio monitor. Audio quality isn't in the same level, but it's not a bad headset and it has a mic, which the M40X doesn't (you could use a modmic and be done with it, tho...).

      @@TechHyped Thanks a lot for your reply. I'm between the AKG K361, SHP9500 and the M40x. Problem is, i've been through a lot of reviews and got dazed by the amount of options and fairly different opinions by several audiophiles, your review seems like the most reasonable and is one of the best.
      Even though I love music (and as a part time musician) i'm not really an expert on the subject of headphones, I have a couple of old HD4xx and RS120 Sennheisers that are nice but they're not really my cup of tea. I'm mostly a rock listener and really appreciated the fact that the M40x seems V-shaped, I like that "boost" and fun sound. Also, would the K361 or the SHP9500 be overall better options or a considerable upgrade in sound quality or i'll be just fine with the M40x?

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 3 lety +1

      No problem mate. Being able to help, I'm all for it! And thanks for the compliments, btw ;)
      Soooo... I'd say the more V-shaped sound of the 40x might be nice if you enjoy that sort of curve for your Rock-based playlist, but I would say that, despite ME liking the overall amount and quality of bass on it, loooots of people say they are not at all "bassy enough" unless you exchange the original pads for something deeper, to add a bit of stage by pushing the drivers away from your ears, while trapping more bass on your head.
      Personally, I don't feel like that's like a 100% guaranteed necessity.
      As for the K361, not very fond of the signature, to be honest, and the SHP9500 is still one of my favourite headphones in this range... It's frankly ridiculously aery, the amount of bass may be a bit less pronounced and the soundstage is delicious.
      Is it the best headphone ever? Nope, but I'd say them and the 40x are "the same" in terms of which one I'd get, one being opened and another being closed. On a imaginary scale from 0-10, both would have the same score to me, like a 7.
      Just keep in mind that the SHP9500s has a bit of a sibilance in the high end, on the 5khz range. That's basically a fact, BUT its something loads of people don't even pick up on/can't hear.
      In a nutshell, you'd be fine with either, really. If you enjoy blasting tho, the 9500 WILL bother other people.... 100% guaranteed hahaha...

      @quackgarage9551 Před 3 lety +1

      @@TechHyped Thanks again! That's exactly what I imagined about the K361, i've heard many compliments but for me it felt lifeless, not for my purpose I guess. Now, i'm definitely leaning towards the M40x, but the soundstage on the SHP9500 is making my head scratch. I'm sure it won't be as good as it is in the 9500, but do you think the soundstage on the M40x is decent?

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 3 lety +1

      Its decent, yeah, but its not really known for having a big soundstage, even for a closed pair. That’s one of the main reasons people use bigger pads with then, to “artificially stretch” the sound presentation.
      Imaging is 🤘🏻, tho. Its not claustrophobic, but its definitely not as wide as the 9500, obviously.
      Not everything needs or benefits that greatly from enormous soundstages tho, especially in rock, which means it won’t automatically be a problem.

      i recently bought the matte gray version and i put a review up. I really liked the audio quality and neutrality i sensed from the M40x, so i would believe the Matte Gray's are the same as the regular black ones. I don't own the regular black ones but i do own Sony MDR-7506 and the M40x sounds more neutral than the MDR-7506. The only "bad" surprise i got from the Matte Gray's were their very light weight and felt very plastic. I was immediately concerned about their durability but it's been a week or so and they haven't bent or anything. I even slept with them on and I now feel they can actually hold up sturdy.

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  Před 6 lety

      They are basically the same, overall, yeah. The "plastic" feel is because, well, they are made out of plastic mostly, but they are quite sturdy. I wouldn't say they're are super durable in the sens of actually taking a beating and stand the test of time, but I'm not entirely sure they wouldn't either hehe.
      Thanks for the imput, mate!

      Sound quality, yes. 100%. The comfort tho, the Clouds will last you quite a bit more, in session hours, I mean.
