Here are YOUR PICKS of mentors in games who had nothing good to teach you. Can you think of even more terrible mentors in games? Shout in the comments if so, and enjoy!
In my opinion. Batman from injustice 2 is a bad mentor. He literally "tries" to train Damian not to kill people but what does Damian do five minutes later, hmmmm oh yeah. He kills zaaz right in front of batman and after that,Damian is tooken away by a better trainer and father figure super man. to be trained better
Have we considered that maybe the old man IS the sword? He probably isn't but if he was that would explain things....except why he doesn't ever speak to you again. Either way he's a horrible teacher.
Barlow from Castlevania Order of Ecclesia, your mentor who guides you until he tries to sacrifice you
Madarame from Persona 5, not only does he steal from his students but he also causes some to kill themselves and basically killed his most prized pupils mother.
Outside Xtra SWTOR. All the mentors try to kill you, get possessed and then try to kill you, get killed, fail to realize superiors or underlings are actually traitors or villains or, some combination of those. Pick any class story, the mentor does something wrong.
I trusted Atlas cos he had a gorgeous Irish accent. I didn't mind when he betrayed me. But then he stopped being Irish. Then I was truly betrayed.

I do love Xehanort's being voiced by the late, great, Leonard Nimoy.
Yes. I didn't know for sure but it sure sounded like it. Isn't that something that must be stated factually in these cases due to respect for a cultural icon? So and so... voiced by Leonard Nimoy... etc.
Watching the 1986 Transformers animated movie gets a bit weird after playing BBS, because Nimoy basically does the same voice for Xehanort that he did for Galvatron.

Considering Von Karma was Edgeworth mentor and practically like a father to him, it is a miracle that Edgeworth is actually good character with a kind heart... I love when Maya or Phoenix are in trouble how we can see how much Edgeworth cares about them
Uh, I wouldn't say von karma is like a father to him, if you dunno what I'm talking about, maybe play turnabout goodbyes if you haven't already
@@stealthobjection5311 Just because he idolized his actual father, was traumatized by the idea of maybe having killed him, and was inspired to become a lawyer by his real father, doesn't mean Von Karma didn't become an influential father figure to Edgeworth for the latter half of his childhood and adulthood. In fact he spent more time raised by Von Karma than his biological dead dad, and became a prosecutor whereas he originally wanted to be a defense attorney like his father. Also, Franziska refers to him as a brother, since Von Karma literally adopted him and raised him alongside his real daughter. Maybe YOU should think harder and replay the games, if you can't see that a boy who lost his dad when he was 9 years old can't have a secondary father figure.

I'd argue that Eraqus deserves a spot on this list more than Xehanort. Xehanort was far more successful in what he was _trying_ to teach Terra. Eraqus couldn't even pull _that_ off.
Also, he tried to key-shiv Ventus to stop Xehanort from using him instead of _explaining anything._ If Eraqus taught his pupils instead of demonizing Terra, scapegoating Aqua, and ignoring Ven, then Xehanort's plan would never have come together as well as it did.
@@jackfrost9512 Even Aqua's distrust can really be blamed on Eraqus's bad teachings. He effectively tried to pound it into his students heads that darkness is pure evil no matter what, and Aqua was simply following the teachings of the only master she ever knew. There's a reason that, (particularly early in the game), she was incredibly naive despite Eraqus claiming she was ready to be a master. At least with Xehanort's teachings, he did actually help Terra to become stronger and gain a measure of control over the darkness, and didn't say to completely reject the light in its entirety as though it was despicable. It's just that making Terra stronger was a secondary portion of his true goal......

Oh wait. I'm dead? Well gee thanks barret. Glad to have you along for the ride! (I know this is a translation error) but I can guarantee it got 90% of players on there 1st play through!

Atlas’s betrayal KILLED ME! I got way too invested in the story of bioshock... and then that shit betrayed me! I was rooting for him! And he betrayed me!

Outside xtra is awesome thanks for making my day better
14:50 "Turns out, Theresa had an ulterior motive..." me: DID THAT JERK TAKE MY DOG?!? no, okay, I'm fine.
Darth Treya is honestly the best and the worst teacher. She both trains us to be the best version of ourselves, all the while setting up the destruction of the Jedi and the Force.
and destroyig the force would be bad why?
@@artturisiikanen3843 considering it's one of the main things helping to maintain life on some planets it would be catastrophic to destroy the force (supposing that it is fully possible)
Sure you give all those warnings about Master Xehanort. But when he is voiced by Leonard Nimoy how can one not trust his pure logic?
Why do I get a weird feeling that Jane will end up on this list someday? 🤔
You either die as the hero or live long enough to become the villain.
Jane? Why, she would NEVER do anything evil! We can trust her not to conquer us with orbital space lasers and an army of zombies.
As long as we remain useful, we have nothing to fear
She'll end up as the boss in a Nier: Automata easter egg CEO boss fight.

Oh, Jade Empire is on your radar? You should do "X many times the bad guy was British" and lead with Roderick Ponce Von Fontlebottom.
He's really more of an obnoxious troublemaker than "the bad guy".
I'm going to have to insist that you refer to him by his proper title of Sir Roderick Ponce Von Fontlebottom the Magnificent Bastard.
I cannot impart the whole system shock I experienced at the Atlas Bioshock reveal about "Would you kindly" I had never felt something so fully blindsiding. One of the things I wish I could experience for the first time again.
Theresa from Fable sounds like Darth Treya.
Steve Malone to be fair Theresa is doing all this bad stuff for a good cause ie to supercharge her seer powers to find a way to defeat the big bad of game 3 that’ll devour the world while Darth Traya wanted to essentially get rid of magic ie the force so nobody can use it. Lmao
@@thevoidbender I'm sorry I was ambiguous there. I haven't played Fable 3. I was referring to the voice actresses, but if there's a serendipitous connection between the character stories, yay!
Actually, Theresa from Fable is actually Madam Hooch from the Harry Potter Movies. I suppose Neville Longbottom might consider her a bad teacher there too.
Master Xehanort from KH: BBS? What about Master Eraqus; he sends Terra on a mission knowing Xehanort could turn him and then tries to kill Ventus.
Honestly what Master Li says in the beginning makes sense, we should strive to learn from our mistakes, but this should never become an excuse to keep making them.
I was looking for a comment like this
I'm so happy for a new video of "the many times". I love you all's content.

In Jade Empire you can come back from the dead to stop Master Li, replace him as a tyrant or become a sodding statue and let him stay where he is? Tough decision, what to pick? 🤔
Hey, I always thought Link killed that mentor. I still think it looks like Link stabs the guy and disappearing is just him dying, shows what I know 🤣
I just started getting into the Fable games. Am I glad I didn’t have the hero kill his sister in the first game, because there is no importing that choice into Fable 2. Perhaps she’s just a different character that just happens to have the same name and be blind (still playing F2)
..i regret not killing Teresa...
She's not really an antagonist though.
Third Fable she's helpful.
Just wanna say, I see that PUP shirt Luke and I approve.
Can't get any more hipster than an obscure Canadian indie alt-punk band.
The "would you kindly" was SUCH a good twist!!!
I love it!
Loved that ending, Outside Xtra! Never laughed so much!
No Igor? from Persona 5 he may not be the main mentor but the ending twist.(Trying not 2 spoil the game.)
He teaches some stuff quite nicely, Morgana did most of the tutorial so..... I'm just saying Igor? isn't as bad as the people in this list.

Like, half of the mentors that are in the class story lines in Bioware's Star Wars The Old Republic MMO game. First one that comes to mind is Lord Zash.
Similarly, in KoToR II, Kreia was a horrible mentor, though apparently she did such a good job as a cast member that she was asked to play the same role in Fable 2.
Another great list! You guys keep killin it!
Also, there is Zuriel from Adventure Escape Mysteries' Legend of the Time Stones. Finds a child washed up on his island with amnesia and instead of curing the amnesia or tracking down his parents, he turns the boy into a homicidal, future ruining, dark wizard

*Sees Wheatley And Theresa On The List* ...How Dare You Badmouth My Favorite British Ball And Fav Blind Seer!
Well Wheatley is a moron and does almost get you killed many times, and Theresa is a manipulative power player that doesn't even offer any decent advice
Like getting you trapped in the spire for 10 years, even though you could've broke Garth out and prevented all those lives from being sacrificed from the get go
Or convincing you to overthrow King Logan the tyrant, but waits until halfway through the game to tell you about the Crawler and tells you to exact same things Logan did to prepare for the Crawler's coming (should've just left Logan on the throne, fuck all those bellyachers in Albion especially that bitch Paige, think Marcy Long from Fallout 4 but more self righteous)

@@LoriasGS Or that the Guild has some new quests for you.
If we're counting the sword guy from Zelda, we should count the Outsider from Dishonored. He just gives you a tattoo and super powers, and plops you back into reality with like no directions of how to use your new powers. Additionally, he already gave your enemies the same tattoo and powers and only does so to be entertained by what you do with your super tattoo. Then he judges you based on your decisions. It's no wonder Corvo either kills people or sends them to a fate worse than death.
