Chris has 2 bass strings on his 6 string SG, Dave has only the E A & D strings on his Strat, and Jason plays a 3 piece kit - but still they made some of the sweetest kick ass rock of the 90's!

I was there. I heard about this secret show at Mount Rushmore and drove about 90-100 to get up there. Someone pulled out of a parking spot just as I arrived, it was fate! I opened my door and just started running through the woods because I had no idea where at Mount Rushmore they were playing. I could hear Lump being played in the distance, so that is when I arrived. I followed that kick drum and then started seeing signs tacked to the trees that said: "This is an MTV performance, entering this area permits you to be filmed, blah, blah, etc. etc" Just then I came up over a rise and there they were! I was shocked at how small a crowd it was. You can hear Chris mention that it was 572 of their closest friends, I would be surprised if it was that many. I was up on the hill stage left and you can barely see me raise my arms at one point.
It was a magical time for sure. The weather was nice, not too cold, no wind, felt like you were indoors. They had a roped off area by the time I got there, and I couldn't go past the roped area, but regardless, I was still quite close. They also sang a song about the Seattle Supersonics basketball team that poked fun at them, but they must have cut that from the show. I also remember someone through a paper bag on the stage and Chris stood at the mic and said, "I would like to thank whoever through this McDonald's bag on the stage!" It was kinda funny.
Thanks to VanessaSNK for posting this, a great memory of my childhood, thought I would never see it again!
CrazyBear65, sorry to break it to you, it was 1996. I was there. Not to mention the copyright at the end says, 1996! Those are not four thieves you see up there, they are great men that made a nation of prosperity and opportunity. The treatment of the native people is not something for anyone to be proud of, but neither you nor I were a part of that. I am grateful for the Lakota and the spirit they bring to the Black Hills, it is something I will never forget and a feeling I will always cherish.

You ruined it with extreme 'noise reduction' = bunch of hanging $hit in the sky, etc. Where can we find the original file? =)

They play a bassitar and a guitbass. Essentially they're guitars with a couple bass strings rather than the typical 6 string guitar

Chris (singer) is the bassist, more or less. Chris and Dave just play slightly unusual instruments they call a "Guitbass" and "Basitar."

Wasn't 96. Couldn't have been. Must've been late 94, early 95. I know, because I remember taping it, and I remember where I was at when I taped it and what girl I was with at the time. Couldn't have been 96, I got married in 95. My tape also had Silverchair on it, and Nirvana, and Space Hog at the end. The four founding thieves up there, carved into the Sacred Stone of Paha Sapa, but Crazy Horse dwarfs Rushmore. My lands are where my dead lie buried.

This was February of 96. The Presidents hadn't really even made it big until late 95 after the release of the debut album. And it's been documented on numerous sites that this show was from early 96.

Definitely 2-17-1996. I have a tape with this and the Silverchair performance MTV aired at some dark as fuck venue right before or after this I can't remember for sure. Was the Nirvana performance their New Year's performance? I remember they re-aired that as well around this time but obviously it was from 1993.

@@waxoftriple9 I remember taping that Nirvana show on MTV from the In Utero tour, but it was several years after it originally aired. So, I’m not sure when it originally aired (the Nirvana show).
