    The tub panels are for covering the filled bath tub. Traditionally, the tub _stays filled with water_ and just gets reheated. Full-body-baths are not meant to get clean, they are meant to relax. That's why you shower before hopping into the tub. The tap to run a single stream is there to fill a big cup or a smaller pot to rinse yourself off with. Maybe you could look into _Sento_ culture to get a better understanding how it's supposed to work.
    I miss japanese bathrooms soooo much...sitting down to shower is just so much better...and being able to splash around without a care in the world!
    They can keep their horrible drains though!

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 4 měsíci +6

      We loved hearing your thoughts about the bathrooms! We have now been to a few onsens and have come to learn a bit about rinsing off with the bucket. When we travel we notice there’s a little seat as well for people to use. :)
      The tub is so nice for our girls to use because I’m not concerned if they are splashing water out of it! 😊

    • @OurStorytoTell

    The fish grill in the kitchen is very easy to use! Besides fish, you can also grill chicken and vegetables in about 20 minutes. I put aluminum foil on the bottom saucer each time before use. You only need to wash the net👍✨
    Please try grilling fresh Japanese fish with just a sprinkle of salt. I think you will fall in love🎵
    Fish in season in July include horse mackerel ( Aji 鯵 ) and sea bass ( Isaki いさき ). Salted salmon fillets may also be good and easy💓

    Risa! Did you know that you already have a japanese name? By the way, the cover for the bath-tub is for keeping the water warm till the next person of the family uses the same water. In Japan you usually wash yourselfe before getting in the bath-tub. Thats why the whole family uses the same water. Strange but true!!!

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 4 měsíci

      I actually met someone with the same name and was like whatttt 😊🙃 I had no idea but it was fun! We’ve also met a little Japanese girl named Noa here at our neighborhood playground. That was special 🫶
      Also so interesting to hear about the bathtubs!

      All looks great and very space-efficient/practical!
      The only thing that I find not so practical is flooding the whole bathroom when you shower.
      Is that normal in Japanese houses that there is no separation to keep shower water contained?

    For the dish washer, the detergent goes with the dishes. Yeah, there is no pre-wish to remove most the dirt with just water.
    Being 2 in my place, we use the dishwasher once a day. So I guess you would need to use for every meal.

    • @OurStorytoTell

    Congrats on the move in! While the house with the cool Mt. Fuji view and sauna looked awesome, sounds like you made the right choice being close to a train station and work. Remembering how surprised we were to have no closets at all in Munich, but back in Japan there's lots of built in options. For the dishwasher, we tend to buy the individual soap capsules and place it on water drain tray on the bottom of the dishwasher (as the water re-circulates around while washing). And glad you got an ice maker function (great for the warmer weather :-) )

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thank you!! It was a hard choice but we are very happy with this one and we are starting to feel settled 😊 Thanks for the dishwasher tips! We have bought the powder and put it in a little like bowl shaped thing that (we think) lol it’s supposed to go in. It works great so that’s good! 🤣 We aren’t ready for the heat and humidity can’t lie lol!

    Wow. I am impressed. Love all the features of your new home and the magnetic wall in the kitchen! If I was near you, I'd bring along "bread & salt", an old German tradition when someone moves into a new home. It shall bring luck to the home owners.
    And I guess for Japanese standards it is really, really spacy! I love the little corner with the pebbles, but yes, I understand that it might be a little tricky. It will for sure have an impact on the kids creativity...... :)

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Oh now you’re making us miss German bread 😋 We could really go for some of that right about now. 🤣 For Japanese standards the house is definitely on the bigger side. We toured many 4 bedroom houses, but most have similar footage. Thanks so much for your comment and watching!

    Does your new house have central heating ? But sheat heater on toilet is very useful. My friend who came from UK always say "I don't want to go to bathroom in my parent’s home in winter. Sitting the toilet is torture 😖"

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 4 měsíci +2

      We have the wall/ceiling units for both heating and air conditioning, and it’s separated for each room which is nice to control different temps depending on your preference.
      Ah, we can totally agree with that! No more cold butts! 😂

  • @cs3473
    @cs3473 Před 4 měsíci +2

    I was going to ask when you guys move in to a new place, do you set up Willa's room first? One of the things my parents mentioned about moving around back in the day was that they would always set up my little sister's room first when they moved into a place because my sister would be super restless until everything was unpacked and set up in her room. Then they would proceed to set up everything else.
    Also have a safe trip to Taiwan! :)

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Ideally, we would have done that as well, but we unfortunately didn’t have all our things when we moved in. But, we setup her temporary bed my work let us borrow and tried to make it as comfortable as possible :).

    Good for you that you are a high ranking soldier with great opportunities.
    You could let everyone know that most military families don't have such grand lifestyles. Many military families are on food stamps, and the WIC program because they are so poor. A stay at home mother dancing around in a fabulous new home after leaving spacious temporary quarters, is an anomaly, well maybe not in your officers' world, but for ordinary soldiers.

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 4 měsíci

      We are actually on the civilian side and not active duty! We are open about Tanners profession and have talked about it a few times. We definitely agree that’s not the way it is for some other military families. We wish it were different! We did however stay at the same temporary housing place that active duty and their families stay on.

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Good question lol! We ask ourselves that sometimes too because we absolutely loved Germany! In the end, we moved because we wanted to experience more parts of the world. We think there’s a lot to gain from living in different places and ultimately we felt it was the right (but hard) decision for our family. When we saw the job opening in Japan we said, let’s do it!
