At 7:20, that jelly is made from a seed called "Ai Yoo" which is a tree that only grows in Taiwan. At 8:40, the doughnut is made of a native variety of millet and cheese, which is only available in the mountains. Taiwan is my favorite country.

I really liked how this tea grower demonstrated the many methods and concentrations of tea- and did it in a way that kept your elder little one Willa interested! BTW, virtually every human culture that had access to leafs learned to chew if not brew leafs for medicinal purposes but the Chinese [in what's now Mainland China] were the ones who first honed on the Camellia sinensis leafs and turned the brewed medicine into a comfort drink many centuries ago. Of course, when you all get more settled in your Japanese home, it would be a boon to watch if not participate in a Japanese Tea Ceremony in which every single step from selecting the leaves to drinking [and slurping] the hot brew is considered a vital part of the ritual! Taiwan sure is a beautiful island and has a fascinating culture and history so I'm glad your family has gotten to see it!
When our American family was stationed in South Korea our kiddos were like celebrities. They got a lot of attention and were asked to have their picture taken with local children quite often. It was strange at first but then we got used to it.
Easter Monday in Germany. It's still cold in Hamburg, we had a delicious breakfast and now the three of us are sitting on the cosy sofa watching you explore exciting Japan. And maybe look for work in the Düsseldorf area when you are ready to come back to Germany. Düsseldorf has the largest Japanese community in Germany. Nearby the Düsseldorf main train station is a Japanese district with Asian restaurants, supermarkets and stores and they celebrate Japan day once a year. Düsseldorf main train station and Airport have good connections for traveling and the ocean is close enough to do day trips to the beach.

This was done before the recent earthquake. The Taiwanese are ready since the 1999 one and promised to learn something from it and boy were they every ready with emergency preparedness, supplies, help for housing, medical, communication, power, etc… other countries should learn from them.
I don't know when you filmed this, I guessed it was late Feb. Now most of the paths you've walked through in the Taroko Park were destroyed by the big earthquake last week. Thank God you didn't encounter one while there. You're so lucky to witness the scenery. Thanks for the video. You have a very beautiful family.

I literally had tears in my eyes watching the news from U.S. My family and I also visited Taroko few years ago and those are the same steps we walked through. Having reflected on this video for a few days, I was astonished to discover on Google Maps that Taiwan is over 2,000 km from Japan, yet you appear to only have travelled by train! No mention at all of flights, airports, ferries. If you made this trip, then South Korea is almost next door.

Only $10 for all that food! I wonder how they prepared that fried cabbage, something I've occasionally attempted at home, but never quite succeeded. Could be the variety of cabbage they use there. I can really only get standard white cabbage in England.
You could probably find the Taiwanese cabbage in Asian market, I heard there's a huge portion of cabbage exported from Taiwan, and I believe Chinese cabbage would work too, remember to fry the garlic first before adding the cabbage. Taiwanese people usually use gas stove and wok to cook meals, the high heat would help the veggies to maintain crispiness and flavor and the wok would be easier to do stir fry and have less chance to get burnt.
40:43 Snails. That's one thing you could never persuade me to try in a thousand years. Snails for me are like shrimp for my nephew. He cannot, absolutely cannot look at shrimp, let alone eat them, but I adore shrimp, prawns, crab etc. I buy fresh whole cooked prawns and peel them, which he finds disgusting.

My granddaughters are living in Bejing with their parents now. Slowly but surely it's becoming a problem that so many people want to take a picture of the girls. Some even touch them.
Yes we had to stand in front of some cameras ourselves because our girls didn’t want their picture taken, but some wouldn’t take no for an answer 😬! That’s difficult for your children and grandchildren!
