I prefer darker reds, so Montblanc Corn Poppy Red is perfect for me. I am surprised you got so little shading out of it. When I use it with a flex nib, I get a lot of shading, which is one of the reasons why I like it so much. Other reds I like go more into the direction of burgundy or maroon - Robert Oster Astorquiza Red is lovely with great shading, and Sailor Manyo Ume is an interesting colour and has tons of sheen.

Tnx for this info. I love mb corn poppy red, but i still haven’t found a substitute

@@lorenzodellaquila4468 I haven't found a substitute either (the other reds I mentioned are quite different), but I haven't really tried either - it's not a colour I use a lot, and I have a whole bottle. That'll probably last me forever.

So true I have the same effect with my lamy 1.9 nib. I love this color!

Nice. My favorite of the bunch is MB Corn Poppy red.. rich but with decent contrast and doesn’t look like some red ink that would get out of a cheap disposable rollerball. Such a shame it is no longer available.
My go to red is Stilo e Stile Roman Centurion… it has that richness but is a bit more vibrant than MB Corn Poppy especially in a fine nib… it takes on a darker hue if it sits, unused, in the pen for a while.

I love Montblanc Corn Poppy Red I use it in my lamy 1.9 nib. Simply fantastic!

I love my Montblanc Corn Poppy Red. It looks amazing when I write with my lamy 1.9 nib. Sometimes I have fun with my writing and I'll alternate lines using the corn poppy red and my cross black ink. It's just such an awesome color.

The Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji really lives up to its name, which refers to the red leaves of Japanese maples. That pinkish rich red, the gold sheen, the shading, all can be seen in those leaves. It’s remarkably evocative.
    Thank you for this comparison.

I currently use poppy red for all the flex tests just because it's got great flow properties

You didn't ask for our least favourite red, but I'll say it anyway 😉From this list, my least favourite are Diamine Strawberry, Diamine Ho Ho Ho and Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji. They all get 👎👎👎from me. Of course, to be taken with a grain of salt 🧂because of my screen parameters.
My favourites from this list are Diamine Corn Poppy, Montblanc Corn Poppy Red and P.W. Akkerman DM Scharlaken van Jan Steen ✅✅✅👍👍👍
My mostest bestest favouritest of all reds for me: J. Herbin Rouge Grenat ❤😍🔥👏
What is your mostest bestest favouritest reds of all reds, Dave, including some reds that were not part of this video? Hmm... Maybe Beefeater? I really like that one; well, I like seeing you write with it on your Currently Inked videos; it wasn't sold on my side of the Atlantic, or elsewhere other than the UK pen show, I think.🤔

Beefeater is definitely one I would probably go for too.

Thank you for the video Dave. I had also noticed that Sharlaken is close to MB Corn Poppy Red, and it is visible here by seeing the two swatches side by side.

It's probably the closest ink to MB Corn Poppy Red that I've seen so far.

I like the darker red inks. my current favourite, actually my only red ink, is the Diamine Inkvent Blue Edition Noel. Its much deeper, kind of a garnet crimson. It has a slight brown sheen as well. I love me sheening inks. Good ones on this comparison too. Cheers, Dave!

Wish I had bought some MB Corn Poppy Red. I like Sailor Ink Studio #730.

If any of my pens misbehave, it’s iroshizuku to the rescue!

  • @christopherbritton293

For me it's difficult to see any difference between the top three in the writing samples, though the swatches are clearly different. The Scharlaken van Jan Steen is beautiful!
