Probably because the people that love him were looking for him or maybe it was just seeing a happier version of yourself from the past, a version you cant really relate to anymore. Go watch it you get hooked almost immediately and no matter what was spoiled for you it is truly amazing to watch it all build up to those moments, The acting is phenomenal the only episode in the whole series rated less than an 8 out if 10 is a 45 minute episode about a fly which is honestly still an awesome episode lol
He cooked not only because of the money but also cuz it made him feel alive. In the final season he wasn't only desperate for money, he was desperate for his former life, and cooking meth reminded him of that.

He wasn't desperate for money. He thought he was, but that was an excuse to break bad. When he had money, he still wanted to do it, saying "I'm in the empire business!" What he wanted was power and significance, because he thought life had cheated him. He was wrong, it was his personal flaws that were his downfall. But don't be fooled, it wasn't just money. If it was money, the show would have ended much sooner when he had stacks of money.
It's also like this with hank Growth = Hank in early seasons Decay = trauma and PTSD from El Paso transformation = he becomes more mature and more humble in the later seasons
I love Walter White so much. One of the best written characters I have ever seen.
