Update for those who want to play Dead Cells. You can change the resolution to "high resolution" in the settings to make the content legible. But you won't be able to read the Options menu to make that change. In the main startup menu, select Options (the second option), then Video (second option), and then the "High resolution" option will be the second setting (the first checkbox). The text will be tiny, but readable. You will also want to change the controls in the settings as the A/B and X/Y are natively swapped.
Can you make video retroid pocket 2+ vs anbernic rg351mp?
Do you get a lot of games with it coz rgb351p is ace but no pc to add games
@@garethbeaton8414 I think retroid pocket 2+ has no roms, can probably buy a sd card with some already on it try ebay.
is there any way to unswap the a/b and x/y buttons system wide?
I have a question. What do I do if the retroid pocket 2+ I ordered didn't come with a tf card?
Russ, I think we would all prefer a long video with perhaps too much info than a short one that feels like it obviously glossed over information that could help viewers make purchase decisions. Especially when your videos are so organized with chapters and timestamps for those who don't want certain info. Thanks!
Facts
Absolutely.. cracks me up when Russ is almost apologising or at least lamenting the fact it’s a long video.. meanwhile I’m sitting here thinking “bonus”.
The longer the better 👍 I like the way you review stuff like eta prime and drew even if its longer I always finish your videos, cat break was funny 😁 unlike madlittlepixel sometimes he gets annoying
I've only just found this channel, and I'm subbing because of this 😂 love it!
Agreed. It's all about scope. If the video were two hours long, it still wouldn't be too long, to the extent the viewer's time is not being wasted. It would just be a different scope. And that's what I appreciated about this video: It is pithy and information-dense.
The touchscreen actually does work really well in Drastic BUT you have to deactivate the touch screen overlay button functionality. It's confusing because you can set the opacity to 0, but you have to go into a different menu to deactivate the buttons altogether. If you don't deactivate them, they will get in the way of the touch screen swipes, especially towards the bottom of the screen where the overlay buttons usually are.
on my phone, I just out the touch screen on top. so as to not worry about it.
now, I really only play a few games on nds and the ones I play doesn't suffer from having touchscreen on top.
Dipping my toe into all this retro gaming stuff, fell down a CZcams wormhole but this better than conspiracy theories!, and just wanted to note your videos are clear, unbiased and helpful. I'll be attempting to jailbreak my vita even the memory card adapter arrives next week and will follow your guides to the letter. Thank you!
Thank you for the touchscreen review as well, that was what I was intrigued for to see how capable it was with Drastic and NDS roms.
Really brilliant stuff and such a comprehensive review! I also really appreciate the thought put into providing the names of the other handhelds and games that you are playing in the clip - not all of us follow the handheld scene 24/7 so it's great that you provide that level of detail. 😄
Love the production value of your videos. 👍 Keep being awesome!
This is the first time I’ve started to look into non-major market devices and this is the first video that I came across of one that I was looking into actually being reviewed. Excellent job thank you no I made my purchase before I saw your video, but your video definitely helped give me confidence that I wasn’t going to get screwed over! Thank you very much! New subscriber
Great overall review. The addition of you explaining the settings you were using while showing off gameplay from the tougher consoles makes for a much more transparent presentation. And you touched on some aspects I hadnt seen mentioned yet, like the touchscreen. I feel more confident in knowing what to expect after watching this. And I agree it is still a great value for $99, though Retroid really needs to look into their order processing times and shipping solutions. Things are rough right now for everyone, but other companies big and small are doing things faster still.
Yes woke up to my most anticipated video! Thanks for the start of a good day! Can’t wait for a started guide (please)
This was so informational and seemed to give a lot more accuracy on what the device is capable of compared to some other channels I watch. You earned yourself a subscriber!
Was waiting on this one from you 🙂 Amazing job as usual mate
Love grabbing a cup of coffee and watching a fresh RGC video in the afternoon. Thanks, Russ!
Another great review , I only own the retroid pocket 2 since it was originally in my budget and you helped me in making my final decision as as you described had everything I was looking for at the time. That being said I was super excited about this review and again you did not disappoint. I agree with another comment , longer videos with more info with time stamps is great ! I love getting all your opinions as they do matter and are very helpful. Obviously chicken is the star of the show so loved the cat break, more please 😺. Russ great video and good job , love that your switching things up a bit in your video layouts , love that retro feel , keep ‘em coming brother !
Russ, along with the in depth break down of the system and hardware u are the only reviewer who actually tests the d-pad with fighting games. This is how I know u are the real deal. Much respect bro ✊
This device looks promising although I would have preferred the right joystick to not be slider. Russ emulation on handhelds is such a wonderful experience with you around. I really like your work, it's so professional and honest. I've been following since the beginning and thanks to your videos my rg 351v and rg 280v provide such s good experience. Again, thank you.
Bruh that so long
Just got mine today and had to check your video - always love your insight and to hear your take on things. As a side note, I've found it easier to get the SD card to eject and put it in by pressing a thumbnail on its spot outside of the little rubber cover. It can still be a pain with big fingers to get the card out, but it can be pressed into place and ejected more easily that way on both the RP2 and the 2+ in my experience. Thanks again for the happy gaming!
Nice tip, thanks!
Love that new intro reminds me of MVG by the way 🤣
The new Retroid Pocket 2+ is a really cool and better upgrade.
Still next one needs to be with a bigger screen 👍
RP3 with the size of the RG552 would be a killer.
Some don't want that larger screen, especially if it means a larger device. I would prefer a better resolution screen - perhaps as a modular upgrade option - and I would love an option where the user can add aditional memory... or even swap-out the processor.
@@blowfishes maybe if you have tiny hands 4.5 inch and up is best for me
They can easily make different models with different screen size... 5 or 7 inches in 4:3 format would be the best but they need to change the name (pocket .-)
Package from......?
No one has done a review on those colored buttons and I'm glad that you pointed that out. I'll stick to the regular buttons because sticky buttons from the paint is a big turn off. Thank you for all you do
Hey RGC Russ, I've been watching your retro gaming tutorials lately are they are very helpful man. Great honest review on the Retroid Pocket 2+. You got a subscriber and thumbs up. Thanks a ton for the good info.
Thanks for watching!
really like the new intro. Keep up the good work!
Cheers Russ, great review. Very tempting, 30 bucks more with a larger screen and I'm sold. Retroid as a company seem to be doing things (mostly) the right way.
FYI about the painted buttons sticking, Abby from Retroid assured me they solved the issue at the factory.
This is very good news! Got worried with my preorder having those sticky buttons. Thanks!
hahaha literally after watching this video I sent an email too and same reply
Really digging the new intro. Great review too.
It has been very frustrating for me to research on this device, because nobody (that I know of, at least) cared enough to mention or consider the complications of the screen size/resolution when it comes to some games. All I kept finding was people showcasing the obvious (performance on GB, SNES, PS1, N64 DC etc.) and no discussion on game streaming or android games in detail, so I have to thank you for giving the time to actually talk about them!
FYI:
In case you're wondering, AnTuTu results:
RP2+: 152k
RG552: 113k
@@Pridetoons I have 83 gamecube games on my RP2+ and out of those only 7 do not run well. For a hundred dollars, that's a win.
@@kandyvenom Woah that's a win for sure, nice to know that :D
Yaba Sanshiro can be set to scan your memory card for games as one of the directories from the settings. 👍🏽 Also dead cells has a setting for high quality graphics in the settings that are hard to see but once you select it, everything is clear.
THANKS RUSS !!..
I'm at work and now can't wait to get home to watch your review....
Mine is getting delivered today! Great timing!
As always you did a killer review! Thank you so much.
Great video Russ! Only thing is that I'm only of the people who do prefer the Digital slider. Not only is it going for pushing buttons, but higher sticks makes pushing it to the right is a bit tiring. These handhelds needs some bigger controller real estate to make a full right stick comfortable
Just got my preorder in... Will be using your set up videos ✌️
Just ordered mine two days ago, got the black one. Cant wait to get it, though not sure when lol. In the mean time im updating my rom library. Great video, this little engine that could seems like so much fun.
Great video like always, I personally picked the RG552 and love it. I wanted to watch this video though because the quality of your content is enough for me to want to watch all your videos. Retro Game Corps is my number one resource for everything that's retro emulation.
@@Pridetoons gonna be waiting a long time lmao!
I'm a 44 year old guy who has been emulating for decades, but have never had a little handheld like this. RG552 looks real spiffy, but at $250 it's just not something I can justify. This little thing looks like more my speed... I will mostly be playing older emulation systems anyway. For $99 it's hard to beat. Now just to wait months for the shipping... :-)
I think I'm digging the black buttons you installed more than the colored ones that came with the device. I get what they were going for, but the black just looks a lot cleaner.
The new intro is nice! I don't have to fast forward to not risk my epilepsy anymore XD
Thank you Russ and Chicken for another great video !! Happy Holidays !!
I’m very much looking forward to mine arriving. A bigger screen would mean a bigger device all round. For me the size of the rp2+ is just what I want from a device like this. It is a shame about the slider and lack of L3 and R3 though.
Did yours arrive? If so, how long did it take to get to you?
Good timing, mine arrived today. Great so far. I've got the 16-bit colour scheme with the same colour buttons shown in the video and they don't stick at all. Hopefully that means they've already solved the issue, unless I've just been very lucky.
Good to know, the review worried me as I had ordered a 16-Bit as well and was anxious I'd be getting faulty buttons as a result. When did you order your model?
@@KonaKonaKaabisteru Ordered on October 31st and shipped on December 19th.
Got mine today, 16-bit colour scheme and two of the buttons are badly sticking, also some screen bleeding, I know it's a great value device but disappointing
@@spreaditfreely same.. Mine arrived today and after on an hour of play my buttons are sticking... Did you ever get a work around or fix for yours sticking?
@@MattyK1873 Sorry to hear lad, I messaged the company about it but not much luck at all, just an email back with a video of console teardown. It was unplayable for me to be honest so I bought a phone screwdriver set and mini file set off Amazon, got both delivered for about 12 quid. Then I followed the PCB upgrade video of the Retroid Pocket 2 from Takii 2's channel as it was a great tutorial of opening the device to get at the buttons. I used the file to file not the buttons but the actual holes that the buttons fit into, pretty much the shell of the unit, only a small amount, happy to say it was actually easy to do and is working perfectly now, still a bit peeved I had to do that but don't be afraid to give it go, I've been well chuffed with the device overall and happy I have the coloured buttons.
your video, presentation and commentary is as comprehensive as it is informative.
I very much enjoyed it. thank you
Great Video! Looking forward to seeing the DIY guide 👍
For ps1 emulation on Retroarch (rearmed core) might be throttled if rewind functionality is on. The rewind functionality actually impacts the performance for PS1 by a lot as it tries to save those frames on memory. I could be be wrong since I don’t have the device in person but that was the case for many retro handheld devices.
Yes, I had rewind and runahead turned off, that was the first thing I thought too!
Retroid are the little guys who I really want to see succeed, but even taking their extremely low price, less than half the latest models from their competition, into account, there's just some things that are close but not quite good enough. Like, at $99, I don't care about PSP, Gamecube, or PS2 performance. Anything that works is a bonus. A 1x resolution on PS1 games is fine, since some PS1 games were 480i anyway, upping the internal resolution might lead to visual artifacts in menu screens, particularly for RPGs. They've done great work making the software more intuitive than before, and switching to conductive rubber for the buttons is a great move. I was one of the ones who really hated the feel of the RP2's D-pad.
It's QA things like the touch screen not working well in its lower third, or the buttons not fitting after they're painted, that spoil it. Little things like the lack of L3 and R3, and sticking with a slider on the right. Taki pointed out some light bleed from uneven pressure on the screen, because whichever factory is slapping these together isn't really doing so with care.
Right now, while it's an older device, you can get an RG351P from Anbernic for the same price, and you'll probably be happier for it. If you hold off until your next pay day, you can get the RG351MP for another $50, and have a MUCH better experience given all the work the community has done on the RK3326 devices. Gamecube, PS2, and PSP are almost entirely out of reach here, too, but what works works well, and the physical build of the device is better.
I could agree with that opinion too. For a budget device, I would also be pretty likely to recommend a 351p. It's a device you can actually get for under $100 including shipping, has very beginner friendly custom firmware available for it, and you can even get it on Amazon to have it within a couple days. If RP2+ had a similar cheap shipping option that didn't take weeks to arrive, it would be a bit closer.
@@misterkeebler for people who already use Android phones or tablets, and have literally no idea about emulation handhelds, I might recommend a Retroid Pocket over an a Linux device, and in fairness it does seem like a much better out of box experience. It's just the little things that make the RP2+ fall short compared to similarly priced competitors.
@@NoobixCube yeah I guess it depends. Personally, I see the Linux devices with custom firmware as even more beginner friendly with the assumption that they can follow a guide for the firmware install because the better firmwares like 351Elec basically take care of all the emulator configurations coded in for you. With android, you have some nice frontend emulators but you're often going to have to configure them yourself. I might be just less aware of what's available for android, but ive been doing some emulation on another android handheld recently and it's definitely some testing on my part to set things up.
@@Pridetoons same on my 351v i get great performance on dreamcast as far as i stick to fighting games, 2d sprites, etc. and some racing games, crazy taxi runs pretty good.
Cloud gaming is getting big and the Retroid 2+, being an Android device, does it well. I was playing Forza Horizon 5 on mine last night. MSFS2020 runs like butter. I'm not sure if those Linux devices are compatible with the apps without having to jump through a whole bunch of hoops, but they are directly supported by Android so it's just download, login, play XBox One games on a handheld.
This was an extremely informative and entertaining video, thanks for making it. I also subscribed, because I want to see all your videos. 💪🏻
I liked your video is in fact that you mentioned that the link has no affiliate marketing. Keep it up good work! Love your video without biased
I was waiting for a handheld that can run goldeneye perfectly, so i’ve just pre ordered the rp2+ ! 😊
Goldeneye was definitely a game that caught my eye when watching this too.
I'm super tempted to get this over anything as my first ever retro handheld. I already know how to work android since I emulate on my phone, but finally something not very expensive and powerful enough. 100% would rather take this than the anbernic one
anbernic has size of screen and dual boot going for it? also android... anbernic are also known for quality.... but the price is the killer maybe the 552 is more capable? cant remember i know taki did 2 long vids on 552 one vid for each os? i didnt watch the second vid but he alluded to the android side being really capable and that with dev or community support the other os should be more than capable too in time.... but that issue along with the price and the current shoulder button config seems like a big misstep for anbernic.... if patchy n64 ps2 is what your aiming for..... not sure any handheld bar a super duper phone can do the majority n64 ps2 or psp yet???
i have just got a max 2 personally i think the best ergonomically and aesthetically pleasing of the handhelds that go up to ps1 it does abit of dreamcast etc its also patchy with n64 but im not looking to play or seek out those sort of games.... max 2 is costlier than the pocket 2+ too by about 30 or so more bucks depending on card size... so the pocket does have bang for the buck going for it...
but reason i chose max 2 was large screen size, symmetrical sticks, grips and stacked shoulders.... and i didnt know about pocket 2+ XD but sub 100 sounds awesome which makes the 552 at 200+ seem crazy when the powkiddy x18s also a very capable device at 160+
or you could buy a quallity budget chinese phone at 100 - 150 - 200 and blows all of these devices away on emulation... im thinking realme or poco x3 f3??? or redmi?? phone prices differ depending on the size of storage etc but the chips inside at those sort of prices is also pointing to the future of other retro handhelds coming in the next few months few years
Was waiting for this review as I was ready to pull the trigger on the Retroid Pocket 2+. In all honesty for the price it's great but I think I'll wait until something comes out that plays most GC games at full speed.
Thanks for the review, really helped me make my mind up.
Fantastic and honest review, as always...great budget handheld, but I am holding out for the Ayn Odin, as I want a larger HD screen. Always a pleasure to see Chicken!
i'm in for Saturn, DC, and N64 with a 4:3 screen. Thanks for the review.
Yeah me too, basically just saturn, dc and all of arcade roms
And with this release, the first of Anbernic's competitors has fired a shot across their bow, Anbernic has sold it's last RG552 at their insane price point. Well, that didn't take long. Different design choices but same case use for both units. That's bad news for Anbernic, at least for the first iteration of the RG552. Fun times in retro world.
I watched your video about the RG351MP and was going to buy that device, however the Pocket 2 looked promising. When they announced the Pocket 2+ I immediately changed my mind and ordered one a few days ago, can't wait.
Just got my RG351P and maxed its potential, thanks to this channel. 😁🤘
I definately feel like some of the other videos i had seen of this device led me to belive that it could run all Gamecube perfectly, as well as much better PS2 performance. so, i super appreciate this video. I'm waiting to upgrade from my RG351P for a good, small device that can run some higher end consoles. And this is def not it. Thanks, Keep up the awesome videos my guy!
If you wait another year or two, retroid will most likely release something that can play PS2 and maybe even Xbox. But I’m sure then it can play GameCube games.
Just use a decent android phone and a controller like the gamesir. Much better than these devices performance wise.
@@ChubbyChecker182 nah use a madcatz lmao
@@ChubbyChecker182 what phones do you recommend to at least play gamecube/ps2 games?

Man, I thought, why you posting 10+ minute videos. Then you talked about ergonomics, a topic that's rarely talked about. Thank you the in depth review! Keep it up!
I just watched someone else's review on the Retroid Pocket 2+ and yours is much better at getting into the specifics.
Gah… this is so tempting! Think I’m still going to save up for a Steamdeck but kudos again to Retroid for making such an awesome price-to-performance ratio on the RP2+ … I hope they sell a ton of ‘em! 💪
Lmfao good luck getting one all next year unless your paying cuck prices
@@TheGamespy100 i think he meant the Steam Deck
@@3STYLER ohhhh than yeah good luck lmao that will be scalped hard
To the people above me, they made reservations a thing for a reason. 😅 Chances are a majority of people who reserved it are people who actually want it, not scalpers, haha. Scalping won't happen until it's available to purchase online on Steam without the need for reservation.
@@3godzilla3 reservations, that's cute for the scalpel bots
I had a feeling PS2 was too good to be true. I just want to play Godhand anywhere
Also, thank you for your honesty Russ. Love the fact you even mentioned that you are a non-affiliate with the company and your reviews are always fair.
Just pre-ordered mine today, wish me luck!
Can’t wait for this to arrive! Thanks, Russ.
Just wanted to note about Dead Cells, the actual issue is probably the DPI reported by the device, you can change that using third-party apps for better scaling.
What app could you use and what DPI would you set it too to fix this?
I changed the settings like he mentions and although they are kind of hard to see and get the right ones but when I got it on full resolution it’s readable and playable. Text is still small but you can read it
you don't need 3rd party app for that. just go to developer settings > smallest width. bigger number = more dpi.
and even then, changing dpi WILL NOT affect scaling on games, only regular apps.
Yeah I fixed mine with just in game settings
Color me impressed, looks like a night and day improvement from the RP2.
I still dislike Android on a dedicated gaming handheld, but for $99 this is hard to beat...
Great review. Very helpful as I'm in the market for a portable retro gaming device to play up to PSP level. Thanks!
That intro though... Nice work!
This was FANTASTICALLY done, I've been waiting for another Retroid product with better controls, I have an RG350M which is *almost* the perfect devoce except no bluetooth, the speakers and sound are very weak, and it's just occasionally weirdly glitchy. I'm going to order a R2+ based on your overview.
Did you end up getting a Retroid pocket 2+? If so how long did it take to arrive? I'm considering ordering one but on the fence
@@Lilacs4 I did not, but I *DID* figure out how to change the feedback resistors on my RG350M to make the gain on the left and right speaker amps MUCH louder, which solved my problem. So I'm happy enough with the RG350M until I have a ton of cash and I'll try the RP2+ someday.
Excellent review, and so glad you clearly stated that this device wasn't designed to play GC or PS2, and that they are probably a generation away.
To think that the performance on this device is this good at launch, just has me salivating at what future emulation development will squeeze from its chipset.
I also hope that Powkiddy and others decide to favour this processor over the RG552's, but think that might be a pipedream.
@@Pridetoons still trying to justify the X18s and 552's shit performance lmao, everyone has all the evidence they need to realize how crappy and overpriced the devices to come before this one have been now thankfully.
@@Flyingboots1 how are you calling the x18s performance crappy? It performs better than this product If you want to say it's overpriced, then fine. But there really isn't any need to justify that product over this. It's already understood that it is a stronger performer.
@@Pridetoons If Powkiddy release a device with the form factor of the RGB10 Max2 but with the T618 processor and more fast RAM then fantastic. Otherwise the X18s is a different class of retro portable handheld. Not everyone wants the clamshell form factor; as some just want a smaller device with the controls built around the screen.
Looking to buy one just literally subscribed because of the cat break lol great review and thank u
Finally after almost two months I got a notification today from DHL that they are delivering it today. I'm just searching through youtube looking at how to set it up.
What a difference a single design decision makes. That right slider changes this from a no brainer purchase to a "will never buy" for me.
As someone who loves to play games on the go and wants try more retro games that are inaccessible to me supply and price wise, handheld emulation consoles seemed like a great fit. I’ve been patiently waiting to hear about the RP2+ for almost a year now. So glad I waited. This seems like it’s perfect for a newbie. If only it came in pink like the RP2... 😆 Gamecube Indigo will suffice. I just love watching your reviews in general so thank you for all the work you’ve put into this and other videos!
Thanks! I agree that a pink color would have been neat. Hopefully they will offer more options later down the line.
I have the same color original rp2. Really digging the look of the black button swap. Unfortunately still no upgrade kits available on regular outlets here in China, but I can’t wait to pick one up.
I just clicked on the video and already wanna say that I was expecting this video for a while!
Loved your review. Quick questions, how long did it take you to receive your retroid after you preordered it?
You have to wait at least 35 days after ordering before it even ships
Russ, I think it’s time for another “my current favorite handhelds” video. Even though the RP2+ is more powerful, I’d like to know if you reach for it first, or do you prefer a RK3326-based handheld?
I'm excited to get mine. I just pre-ordered it. I just started doing emulation on my PC with PS1 and GameCube. I think I'll use the RP2+ for older games and my PC for things like GameCube. I hadn't done much emulation in the past, so it's fun to play these older games again. So far, I've just played games I've played before, but I'm excited to try some games I haven't played. Many of these games are too expensive to buy and/or I don't have the console, so emulation is my best way to try some of these games I missed growing up.
Your reviews are just brilliant man, thank you so much.
A RP2+ with the form factor of a RGB10 Max or Max 2 would be my ideal handheld.
Faz o teu então porra
Interestingly, I've also seen cheap tablets/phones with the T310 appear recently. Like the Alldocube Smile 1 and Philips PH1 / PH2
Unisoc managed to claw 10% market share with their dirt cheap pricing.
Just like to say happy New years to you and all the fans of retro game Corp
Russ, I am so very thankful for everything you do and provide for the community. May I make a personal suggestion, I love the new opening theme for the channel, however, I also love your old one. Is there anyway you could switch back and forth? Maybe come up with a third or fourth one?
Hi, I am working on a new official intro song. I took the old one down because as my channel grew, I found that the song was being associated with my channel, rather than the excellent work done by the creator. That was never my intention when I started the channel (I didn't think it would get so popular!). So after discussion with the artist I chose to remove it to honor their work. The "final" song won't come until it's ready, but I'm hoping it will be equally as iconic.
@@RetroGameCorps thanks for the explanation and that makes complete sense and is a real class act thing for you to do. Again your pride in what you do and your personal convictions make your channel and your reviews so respected.
if we get one of these things in the future with at least a 1 or 2x Cortex A76 or A77 at around 2GHz and decent GPU I think we can emulate everything up to Dreamcast and PSP flawlessly (and also do a lot of GameCube gams at 1x resolution at least)
Well I did order my yesterday. After 2 months thinking and fighting with myself 😅 I did decide to buy this one over the others systems for time when I am waiting for stem deck. Other reviews more positive about NGC and Ps2 emulation 🙄 after your video I am a bit disappointed. But maybe community will bring some good patches 👍🤩
i ordered one last week too! Have no idea how long it will take to get to me, but in the meantime i have my PS5 and Switch to keep me busy. Im only interested in emulating up to PS2 era games anyway. I never had a PS2 as a kid or a PS1. I played the crap out of Xbox 360 games and everything after that so im ready to go back in time on an awesome handheld that can play these older games with great performance at the same time.

The screen does only turn off for HDMI OUT if you set it to turn off. If you change that setting its possible to play Nintendo DS with HDMI Out as a second screen.
Great idea!
My RP2+ (16-bit style) is probably going to arrive tomorrow, and I was concerned about the painted ABXY button issue you showed, so I contacted Retroid about it. I asked if they were sending regular buttons to people who encounter this issue, or if I should just order some new buttons right now. A day later they responded that they’ve corrected the problem and that my system won’t have any issues. We shall see.
Please update me with how it turns out, thanks!
@@RetroGameCorps 👍
@@MrCumstein me too would like to know about the buttons because i ordered my few days ago, thanks.
@@nzxtsnue1139 I’m happy to report that the buttons on mine feel great, and I’ve had no touch screen irregularities either.
@@MrCumstein oh thats great im happy they didnt went with the 3ds qc approach. thank you.
Thanks for the review Russ! I was looking for a handheld that could play N64 games, and PS2 games. Thanks again for the great review again!
Love the new intro!
Retroid Pocket Team nailed this time! Offering a hardware upgrade for those who already own a RP2 and a selling a powerful machine for under 100 bucks? No competitor is doing that. This device has the best value for the money you can get
@@Pridetoons Powkiddy X18S is more expensive though, that device costs $179
@@Pridetoons for that build quality and awkward placement of buttons, it not worth to spend that money. For the moment no competitor can beat RP2+ when comes to cost x performance
I really like the case and button layout of this thing. Some of these handhelds annoy me due to the design of some of them.
I just ordered my Pocket 2+, can't wait for it to arrive
Great review. I want to buy this. What a great looking machine. Though the sticky buttons has me a little hesitant.
wake up honey, russ just posted
I'm awake baby
If the dpad and analog stick were switched it would be the perfect device for me
Thanks to you, I ordered one instead of the parts upgrades for my original RP2.
For a smaller device, I think this is top tier. Except for the l3/r3 buttons. All in all, I think I want the MAX2 form factor with the x18s chipset and memory. This device, I would not mind giving out as a gift. Price/performance is very good.
Seems like a good value system.
Only thing I cant stand now are those small screens.
If they had screen size options like say around 5 and 7",then Id be more interested.
As for your PS1 emulation tests, wonder how fpse and epsxe perform. Those have a wealth of tweaking options.
Totally agree, would pay for a slight upgrade on screen size.
I mean, a screen that big would severely compromise portability. Plus, it's still got a screen about equal to the DS in size.

Not for me.
Portable doesnt mean it has to be pocketable.
But to each their own.
@@fonzitheman Fair enough, though I should mention I made a minor typo, I meant to say it's nearly the size of a 3DS screen.
I really was excited about the new generation of retro handhelds after owning RG351 (love) and RP2 (hate). So I was about to give a try with RP2+. But after EU got serious about taxes and China, RP2+ in Poland would cost me total 138 USD. So I thought: maybe wait for for Odin but then let’s say 240 USD for BASE, then add 12$ for shipping, 23% tax over that and we arrive at 310 USD for me (there is still possibility of additional import duties). Base steam deck with taxes (and shipping i think) is priced in Poland at 1900PLN = 469$. So lets be frank: I would love new retro gadget but price wise I will wait for reviews of Steam Deck (windows, linux, steam os, batocera, 4k output) and then decide.
might as well wait or stream to the rg351
You are literally the absolute best at explaining things, also your voice is the most relaxing of most other channel reviewers - which never makes me panic, even when I mess up LOL..
Question for you, if you had to choose between the Anbernic RG351P vs the Retroid Pocket 2+ which would you choose? I have an Anbernic RG351V on the way, but I hear great things about N64 and Gamecube play on the RP2+ which is the whole reason I even want a second console. I'll be using my RG351V for GBC/GBA playing mainly for that vertical feel. The second console will pretty much be for horizontal game play like - Zelda Wind Waker, Banjo Kazooie, Simpsons Hit & Run, and Crazy Taxi 2... and the use of 2 joy sticks will help. So which would you choose? (for Gamecube and N64 play) RP2+ or RG351P? I'm open to other suggestions. But those two are the ones in my price range and after binge watching all of your videos I fell on those two options. Please reply!! Thanks again for all your video help! You ROCK! :)
Great video very detailed as always thanks
