A video of me being determined to beat once and for all the Hell Goddess, Hecatia Lapislazuli
Note: I use CZcams in-built annotations in my video. I recommend you give them a try.
Hecatia Lapislazuli (HOT TOPIC-CHAN!!!) is the Ex-boss of the game Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, the 15th installment of the Touhou Project. The Touhou Project is a series of danmaku games where questionably fashionable goddesses join forces with certifiably insane manifestations of spite to commit genocide of an entire species due to them holding PRISONER the WIFE of the guy who accidentally killed previous manifestation of spite's son. Honestly, LoLK is one of the darkest Touhou all things considered!
First of all, if you haven't watched my Announcement video, long story short: I got a job, I plan to diversify the channel to accommodate my new lifestyle, moisture is incoming (maybe, perphaps)
Back to topic:
Reisen. Reisen Udongein ************** Inaba. Sanae might excel at many things, but when it comes to Hecatia and Junko, Reisen is simply a beast. It all lies in her bomb, "Barrier Wave (Evil Undulation)" a.k.a Izanagi. Instead of causing damage, which the Ex-bosses flat out ignore, Izanagi grants Reisen the ability to resist three hits in exchange of an enlarge hitbox. While the lack of damage in a normal playthrough will likely bite you back, in the Extra Stage it's a godsend. Being able to tank through the entire boss fight is not something to underestimate.
In the announcement I might had said "Fuck Hot Topic-chan", but honestly I like the design and concept of Hecatia. Sure, it's ridiculous, but in a fun way. With her unorthodox design, modern fashion, and interesting ability to exist in three different bodies, Hecatia is very identifiable character. Most Extra bosses are characters easy to remember because they tend to have that "spark" that makes them shine. The only exception to this might be Raiko, but even then Raiko excels in her own way. Or maybe I'm so out of touch with the fandom that recent Touhou don't seem to pop out as much. But then again, we have Seija... I don't know what to believe in any more.
The fans do love making fun of her design, either by making fun of her shirt or putting weird stuff on her head.
Hecatia is... happy. The anime trope that fits her is that of a genki girl, but a little more subdued. During her dialogues you can't help but get this feeling that she is just along for the ride. She doesn't particularly cares about Junko's REVENGE (although she would consider it a plus if something unfortunate were to happen to Chang'e). When she meets the heroines, she's been lazing around keeping the lunarians trapped in the Dream World and is giddy to get to fight the girl who put a wrench on Junko's invasion. Like Suwako or Mamizou, she doesn't take the fight seriously and when she loses she does it gracefully (even if she cheated on her last spell).
The fight itself is solid, but could had done without Junko's interference. Honestly, with Hecatia having three bodies, did ZUN really need to put Junko's amazingly unimaginative danmaku? Many of Hecatia's attacks have this "deja vu" feeling to them. They feel similar to other character's spells. I take this as an indication that maybe it's time for ZUN to take another break (similar to the breaks between Mystic Square and Embodiment of Scarlet Devil or Shoot the Bullet and Mountain of Faith). Allow ZUN to come back with new fresh ideas.
I'm excited about what shenanigans the fandom will do with Hecatia, particularly with her theme song, Pandemonic Planet. Would have loves for ZUN to do the metal theme song he wanted to do, but Hecatia's theme is not bad.
And with these Hecatia joins the pantheon of Exbosses, right alongside all the other giants. Thankfully Junko doesn't get to enter. She doesn't really deserve it.

very late but one reason why hecatia fights you is because hou yi, the husband of chang'e, shot down one of her suns, apollo, which meant the darkness of hell would be weakened (weaker light means weaker shadows)
junko also influenced her to fight the player

I personaly really like Junko, because she instead of using her danmaku to express emotionaly, she just wants to use it to kill to you, it is pure damaku and no flashy colourful danmaku, she just want her revenge.

Junko's danmaku is pretty interesting, actually. She's used her power on them which makes them simpler and more dangerous. Purifying them also removes their names, which is why they sort of just have weird descriptions for their titles.
+hjt091 Never thought of it like that. Story and lorewise Junko is an interesting character, but that doesn't translate well to her gameplay.

As much as I love Reisen's ability there is a time when her power fizzles out too. One word. Clownpiece. That fucking fairy jester devours your shields if you aren't careful. So many lasers. So, so many lasers... Also! Despite being an Undertale fan as well as a Touhou fan I feel like you used the determination tagline...way too much. Maybe once for Cornering A Trapped Rat but nothing else is applicable.

Honestly her early nons and spells are not that bad... but Junko's first non always kills me because I totally suck in this right-left-slalom-micrododging.

Hecatia doesn't represent the moon, she's the motherfucking goddess of hell and is confirmed to be stronger than the Yama (Which makes her the strongest character in Touhou so far). If anything, she's Utsuho's boss.
BTW Utsuho isn't insane, she's simply bird-brained.

I think Utsuho is supposed to keep the *remains* of Blazing Hell lit up. Not sure what the heck they do with that place, considering Eiki sends people to Hecatia's hell, not Blazing Hell...
Either way, Touhou was always a huge clusterfuck of eastern myths of different religions, so non-sensical (or even contradictory) cases can be found here and there.

Hey, I'm planning on starting Touhou, but I don't know which game I should start at. In general, what would be a good Touhou game for a person below average touhou player?

Personally I recommend between Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, Perfect Cherry Blossom, or Imperishable Night, since they are the older games and going back to them later on will feel sluggish. Imperishable Night also has the advantage of being one of the easiest and most forgiving games in the series. However, some people argue IN creates bad habit, but I personally started with IN and... well, look at my channel. Granted, I spent an entire summer playing Touhou.
If you want to start with a Modern game, Mountain of Faith is a good start. Ten Desires is the easiest of the newer games, but if you have some semblance of caring about the story you really need to play MoF, SA, and UFO to appreciate the story of TD. However, SA and UFO ARE NOT among the easier games.
TL;DR: Imperishable Night for older games, Mountain of Faith or Ten Desires for newer games.

How do you beat Doremy Sweet's first spell in this stage? I have a hard time doing that consistently.
I'll give you some hint.
in the first spell card,dash below doremy then after she surrounds you with bullets,go down and turn either left or right then graze within the circle then move up.
2nd spell card: just do a circular motion( depending on the direction of the bullets)
3rd: never ever stay below the screen! just stay in the center and after the lasers orbits to your character, start dodging but dont go too near on the side or below the screen,those lasers bounds off
4th: idk how to dodge this,still learning to dodge this thing

So, raak... what are your thoughts and opinions on Yuke's alternative Danmaku patters for Junko? (providing link, just in case: czcams.com/video/PIlxgSdQIls/video.html) Personally, I generally liked Yuke's patterns better than ZUN's.
Considerably better, although many of them feel like they took heavy inspiration from other bosses in the series.

I s'ppose that might be inevitable in a series primarily focusing on bullet patterns. I mean, with about 70-ish boss battles, each with an average of 3-4 patterns, (except for the ones with 10-ish patterns,) it might eventually become kinda difficult to be completely original... But, yeah, anyway, were there any particular patters you were referrin' to (both in regards to "considerably better" and "took heavy inspiration from other bosses")?

In this game, yes. Most Touhou games have that one "gimmicky" character and Reisen fills the bill this time around.

where did you get the english patch??
It's a program called THCRAP. Don't ask me what it stands for, but the first two letters are easy. It's an executable you can download (Google it) that syncs to an online database of language patches for Touhou games and applies them to your Touhou games. That's pretty much the only way to get English patches of Touhou 14 and 15.
