Zakir Hussain tells us who he thinks is the best tabla player. He mentions how there are many aspects to a great tabla player and how everyone is good at different things.
I have been listening and playing tabla for more than 20 years. And for me I have never heard tabla played better than by Ustad Ahmedjan Thirakwa. That is the gold standard of tabla playing as far as I am concerned.
If the table player did his job in the musical presentation with no mistakes and the sound is good. He is best!! Plain and simple. Then you have your favorite. That is your choice.
Resp. Zakir sahebs superb tanla playi G always gills my heart eith devine joy, just like his fsther he had sll duperb qualities I ecptess my hearty well wishes for him with regsrds
Ustad Zakir Hessian is a down to earth human being. He will never take the credit as being the best Tabla year in present time. Yahi ek sahi pehchan hoti ek sab se ache kalakar ki. Jo khud ki nahi dusaro ki tarrif karte hei. May God bless him.
Could you please upload some more lehras/nagmas? I would like taals to have raag, instrument and speed listed out. Please upload teentaal in 50 bpm as soon as possible, maybe from illehra or something. Thank you very much in advance!
Hello. Thank You very much for the suggestion. I have posted the videos at czcams.com/video/XYtJpfAILKo/video.html and czcams.com/video/C4a-5EClogc/video.html If you would like a different raag or instrument, please let me know. I plan to post more iLehra videos in the future also, because it is very highly requested.
It is definitely possible for a child to learn tabla at 3 years old, as even Zakir Hussain himself started learning at at that age! Young children are very good at learning, so a 3 year old will pick up on information very well! It might be a little hard to play at first because their hands are very small, but you can still teach them theory and technique while they develop strength. Do not force them, especially at such a young age, because then they will lose love for the instrument, but if done right a 3 year old can definitely start learning tabla!
Arey bhai. He is not there to keep saying lists of names. There are many ustads and pandits. He was just giving examples to explain. He can't keep saying all the names !!
I never expected that he is under such extreme Indianized bias. He did not name any Tabla players from Pakistan, wherein Tabla is more alive than India. Ustad Shokat Hussain and his disciple Ustad Tari Khan who are beyond his capacity, I wish he would have even sit with Ustad Bhulli Khan sb, please google his teentaal and then play it with matching speed, clarity, continuity and rhythm.
If you listen to. The original whole.. interview.... he has mentioned.. the names of Pakistani tabla maestroes.. and shared his experience..of learning with ustad tari khan.. from Miyan Shaukat Hussain...!!
I dont think he is talking in the context of semi classical tabla playing, What Tari khan, Tafu khan, bhulli khan and other maestros you mentioned are specialist of.. He is talking here about the intense classical repertoire.. Kind of Tabla played by Thirkawa khan saheb, Samta prasad or Habibuddin khan saheb or Mian Shaukat or Allarakha or Anokhelal played. If you compare these legends with international kehrwa and Ghazal / qaewali accompaniment kind of stuff it wont be appropriate. (with all respect to there mastery) These are two very different catagories of Tabla players. Doesnt mean anyone is smaller. I respect Tabla personally and maestros from Pakistan as well. But unfortunately Mian Shaukat hussain was the last legend of Tabla in Pakistan. czcams.com/video/MZtYxWpNswg/video.html Pls dont compare this 👆🏻 with the aesthetics of Samta prasad ji or any other legends mentioned here.
And speed is something everyone is playing all around the globe today.. You should visit Maharashtra and West Bengal sometimes. You might find few Tabla players playing fast and clear like crazy. Ud. Zakir hussain doesnt need to sit with anyone to prove anything. He is talking about deeper aspect of Tabla.
Ustad Zakir Hussain is such a humble ..he is also among those greats of 🇮🇳🇮🇳
I have been listening and playing tabla for more than 20 years. And for me I have never heard tabla played better than by Ustad Ahmedjan Thirakwa. That is the gold standard of tabla playing as far as I am concerned.
Pandit Kumar Bose ji..He's my most favorite tabla player
Ustad Zakir Hussain is one of those complete tabla players
And to me the greatest ever
If the table player did his job in the musical presentation with no mistakes and the sound is good. He is best!! Plain and simple. Then you have your favorite. That is your choice.
Very Remarkable statement about Pt. Kishan Maharaj ji... !!!
The sound by pt. Samta prasad was beyond everything
Zakir hussain sahab is no doubt one of the greatest tabla player of this time , I wish he could mention Tari Khan sahab
Tari ji is a very nice tabla player, but unfortunately plays frankly quite limited repertoire. Mainly he’s known for laggi.
Ur legend always
Can you please upload the entire video?
Ustad Ahmed Jaan Thriakwa Khansab was the most complete and the best tabla player of all time without a doubt

ustaad Tari khan sahab is a best Tabla player in all ways either sangat or Solo
All the pandits/ustads you all have named are great....But Anokhe Lal ji is the base of the building
Tabla is basically a sangat ka instrument. What he said about Pdt. Kishan Maharaj is a lesson for everyone, especially for Pakistani tabla players.
I think Pakistan have the best sangat players as well as solo players and also the roots of Ustad Zakir ji are from Pakistan. 😊😊😊
Pandit anokhe lal Mishra
Allah Rakkha the father of Zakir is no less than Zakir... Do listen... I think I would put him at no. 1 (bcz he is the guru and equally good)
Ustad zakir Hussain is the best.... Any doubt????
Pandit Chatur Lal
Ghulam Hayder maganhar is also great dholak nawaz
me
Surprise to see there is no name of Ustad Mian Shaukat Hussain and Tari khan G
In this same interview, he has spoken about Punjab Gharana in Pakistan and the contribution of Mian Shaukat Hussain, i believe
I know how to play a tabla
Phone aa rha tha
Speed ultimately, NOT only: 90% tabalists cannot play kirtan khol bass rela, 98% lack "te re" bols discipline, only "te re ke te" + "dhe re" they can play fast. With rela-discipline, basically Central Kolkata Taltala Sovon Rozario ranks first, Bhawanipur Bireswar Bhowmik second, Mumbai Ud.-Dr.Zakir (Hussain) Qureshi third, Ud.Karamat Tullah Kha fourth, and Pt.Shamta Prasad Mishra fifth. BUT/KINTU/MAGAR overall speed-wise (with finger strokes basically) it's Zakir-bhai, dad Allah Rakha NO partial teacher. Kolkata, India, & SHARE globally.🎉🎉
Where did he say that he is not d best tabla player?
Hello did you listen ustad tafu khan mr zakir didnt taken the name of person that beats him in london
Are you mad
True

Zakir Hussain is good but in solo......he was never comfortable with a proper ghazal gayek.
