    You are SO right about making time. You can sit online surfing the web or Facebook, or you can read 50 pages in the time you were facebooking! I can read a few books at a time but they all have to be different genres.

      That's a good technique! That helps keep everything separate in your mind as well.

    I also have been reading multiple books at one time. I am currently reading one fiction book on my Kindle, one audio book and a non-fiction physical book. I listen to my audio books in the car as well. I really enjoy your channel!

    The nitty gritty, I love it! Well, the nitty gritty on my reading style of late is that I'm a book collector and not so much a reader. I've had a super hard time focusing; life has been a wee bit chaotic the last couple of months with no letting up any time soon. I've pushed through a few ebooks on my Kindle, but that's about it. I wouldn't call it a slump, I'm just not making time. I'm not watching much TV either.
    I don't recall ever reading multiple books except for maybe in college with required reading for classes. As far as reading for pleasure, I'm a one-book-at-a-time girl, HOWEVER, I've also never tried reading multiple at once. Something to consider. I think I would have an easier time of it if the books were different genres; I'll have to try! I've also never listened to an audiobook. More to consider, lol.
    I surpassed my Goodreads goal in September, so I'm happy with that. Anything over is just bonus. I'm trying to figure out my plans for 2018.

    Using multiple platforms definitely helps for me too! I always have an audiobook going, then either an ebook or physical. Sometime short story collections are thrown in there too, because I cannot power through those.

    • @SarahsNightstand

      Me either! You would think short stories would be easy, but it takes me a while to get through the whole anthology.

    I am usually reading multiple books too. I have a audiobook and then usually one or Two physical or kindle books going. I find having the books be from different genres helps keep me from getting them confused. Right now I am listening to a thriller and reading a paranormal book and a YA historical fiction. I like being able to switch up with my mood

    • @SarahsNightstand

      Yes, that's a great way to be sure you don't get confused on what you're reading. It can help your brain switch back and forth easier.

    I definitely do multiple books. I usually have an audio book for the car and the gym, a physical book to read in the evenings when I’m relaxing and a book on my Kindle to read in bed. I also have a physical book at work to read in my lunch break. I’ve always been able to manage to read multiple books and keep the stories separate. My daughter is the same but not my husband!

    Good advice. I haven't read more than 2 books at a time, but I have so many I want to read that I need to start using my kindle and get into audio books. Thanks for the advice and the push to do more!

    I just started reading multiple books at one time. I’ll read/listen to an audiobook on my bus ride too and from work and read the book I’m listening to at work. I usually follow the audiobook along in my book because it helps me absorb the story better. Then I read another physical book by itself when I’m at home relaxing in front of the tv and I’ll read on my kobo at night in bed because I can turn the brightness down and my husband can sleep.

    I am a teacher and I have 3 different t English classes. I can read multiples with my classes and keep it straight but for myself I generally do one book at a time. I do physical books. I think if I did what you do where there is a different book type (physical, kindle, and audio) it might be doable. I would have to make sure they are different genres though.

  • @BooksandScribbles

    Yes! A big part is making the time to read. It needs to be set as a higher priority over mindless scrolling of social media. I'm guilty of losing time just scrolling through my twitter or facebook feed when I could be reading. Audiobooks are how I get through so many books in a week. I listen to the audiobooks instead of music while at work.
    BTW loving the Hogwarts shirt!

    I think I have 4 books going right now, I find that my husband likes to change channels on TV and I like to change books to whatever suits my mood. I've done this off and on my whole life, like you I find it easy. When I was in school I had to read different text books so I don't see much difference. Well, except I enjoy what I read now...LoL!

      Yep, me too. Sometimes it's great, but a lot of the time I'm just wasting time on it. Audiobooks are so great! A really great audiobook is either It by Stephen King if you haven't read it and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Let me know if you want any more recommendations.

    No matter what I try I still get mixed up reading multiple books at once and I. Am 40 yr old I spent most of my life reading one book at a time being hopeless multitasker I allways blames it on my minor learning disability but since I started reading again late last December again after being in a hight painful reading slump I still read one book at a time and get forgetful of the other book when I read multiple books at once, but recently I realised I can read 10 chapters in 7hr and I can listen to audiobooks at x2 max speed when I useually get tired reading any book that’s been me my whole life, recently I have been reading from my apple book appt, a physical book and an audiobook and now I’m trying 3 or 4 physical books one ebook and one audiobook I know I can do it I just got to train myself I guess we’ll I’m more of a reader or words than a listener more ways than one lol, I’m not an audiobook fan but I’ll use them I needs must.

    There are some great tips and suggestions here. I do the same with books on multiple platforms. I don't read physical book anymore but I always have an ebook and an audiobook on the go. Plus for nostalgia sake I am re-reading The Baby-Sitters Club series on ebook so I have one of those as well (those are hard to confuse with anything else I am reading lol)
    The big thing for me has been making sure I go to bed earlier. It goes with what you were saying about mindless time. Instead of scrolling through Facebook, I make a cup of tea and go lay in bed away from my laptop and stuff and read a few chapters before bed.

    I raised to believe you can only read one book at a time so me as a consistent reader that’s all I ever do and I’m honestly buying more books than faster than I can read them and I can read 150 pages a day, I’m 42 years old with lot of time in my hands and I’m running out of space for new books if I can not make space, I’m a consistent reader and I have a slight learning disability and I was outing it down to that because I had a hard time, in doing that and I’m away getting tired reading continuing the same book one at a time so my unbalanced the in my room I need to do something about it.

      I’m like one min I want to do it then the xext min or a few hours I whant to just read one at a time does anyone get that plb when can’t get used to doing multiple books when they when back to reading in 2020 after a while?

  • @BernasBookishAdventures

    I usually read two books. One on my kindle which I mostly read when I am going to and returning from work (takes like two hours/day) and one physical book to read when I am at home. I do not listen to audiobooks :)
    More than two books confuses me.

    I love your tshirt it's so cool. I can read several books at a time but I cannot do audio books at all. I have tried but they annoy me I cannot stand anyone talking at me and I find also that I don't get anywhere near as much out of them as a physically reading. I don't waste my time on Facebook or the like but I do spend a lot of time watching CZcams videos like yours and other booktubers, which of course get added to after your shoutouts lol, how do you make time for CZcams, I always end up down the rabbit hole haha

    • @SarahsNightstand
      @SarahsNightstand  Před 6 lety

      Thanks, the shirt was a gift from my friend and she got it at Target! I spend a lot of time on CZcams as well, lol! I've been getting a bit picky about which videos I watch, so I don't always watch every video in my subscription feed. I watch a lot while I'm cooking or doing laundry or getting ready. Multitasking! I actually schedule my filming time into my day when my kids are in school. Many times I will batch film, so I will film 3 or 4 videos at once and then i can get them all editing and uploaded at the same time. It's a big time saver, I just have to be prepared!

  • @jackiesliterarycorner

    I do read multiple books at the same time, but I end up focusing on one book. I have to disagree, "surfing on the web" isn't always mindless, I mean there are periods where it probably is tedious, but I run groups on here (some are book related) and at the moment this is the only place I can speak to my best friends. I have recently moved and one of best friends was in another state anyway, so often times I'm not just "surfing the web". I do get your point about it being mindless and reading is a better activity, but for me it's not always an endless black hole of nothing.

    • @SarahsNightstand
      @SarahsNightstand  Před 6 lety +1

      Oh, I definitely agree! There are times I'm online and doing good, productive things. I've just caught myself mindlessly scrolling through my feed and not caring about any of it. That's when I have to stop myself. But definitely not always wasteful!
