  • In this video, I talk to a design engineer about his use case for the Supernote platform, specifically the A6X2, also comparing it to my workflow as an academic. While it is a longer video than I normally post, I believe it addresses a very valuable set of topics. To keep the video as conversational as possible, only minimal edits were made to eliminate dead spaces. We discuss the following topics:
    1. Sketching in notes
    2. Basic organization
    3. Real world applications
    4. Supernote’s approach to design
    5. Our most useful tools
    6. Beta functionality
    7. Tools and features we would like to see
    8. Future development
    9. Observations on productivity
    10. Overall recommendations
Some of the videos mentioned in this video:

I'm currently working as a Senior Lead Transformation Architect but before that I was a Linux Systems Engineer and have spent a lot of time in server rooms so it was very cool to see how your son uses the supernote for drafting and design. I use mine to mind map, review coaching and mentoring transcripts, notes, reading pdfs and annotating, drafting articles and more. Nice segment. I enjoyed a lot!

Thank you for the comment, feedback, and sharing your story. This is exactly what Trey and I were hoping to achieve with the conversation.

32:31 The comment about PDF comments and highlighting just being normal PDF comments is really cool. I didn't realize that was the case. I do appreciate that Supernote tries to stay "in ecosystem" for PDF/DOC.

Thanks for the comment. I agree. I truly understand Boox and other devices going all in on Google Play, but to me this has the promise of being far more functional and streamlined.

Great idea to have symbols like checkboxes that would put the items in certain buckets. Reminds me of the Bullet Journal and Rocketbook

Love seeing different workflows, and how different people use the same features.
P.S. Watching this while on night shift with my (much younger) kid :) It was nice to meet yours!

Thank you for your response, I love your videos and appreciate you taking the time to watch mine. I learned a lot in talking to Trey. Afterwards, we were discussing perceptions we have about what "other people do." I would have sworn he would use the Atelier app professionally, but the reason for sketching in notes is much more logical. I have worked many night shifts. Our youngest is about to turn 14, we have a total of 4. This may have been my favorite video to date. Thanks again for the comment.

Go Boilers! I just got a Nomad 4 days ago, so I'm trying to start seeing how I should work with it. I'm like Trey, an engineer, and my notes are all over the place with text, doodles, scribbles, etc in many directions. I've been using the real-time recognition notes, because I'm thinking eventually when you export a pdf file, they will include the recognized text behind the handwriting and the pdfs will be searchable in a regular file system. I won't find continuous recognized text, but I may find the files where I wrote a specific word.

As the proud Hoosier father of a Boilermaker, thanks for the comment. I am glad it was useful. Just be aware that the text usually has to be exported separately once it is recognized. The exception would be using Obsidian and the plugin I mentioned. If you'd like to learn more about Obsidian, here is my playlist:

@@Change-1820 They'll need to change how they treat the recognized text to make it more useful. The Obsidian plugin looks interesting. But this brings up a limitation that I have, my work computer is completely locked down so no Obsidian, no supernote windows app, etc. I do use Obsidian on my personal computer and have for some time.

Awesome feedback on the A6X2, thanks. Do you think the larger A5 form factor would be easier to work with when the new X2 comes out? I'm struggling between choosing either the smaller and slightly larger form factors. I think I'm looking for something like a 'perpetual notebook' for anything anytime anyday that I may run into.

Thanks for the comment and question, this is a really hard one. It you are looking at primarily notetaking, you might be alright with the Nomad, especially with the landscape orientation. However, if you think you are going to have to review larger documents or think you may grow into more use cases like we talked about, the size can be limiting. From a portability perspective, the Nomad is very good, although I have always found the A5X very convenient as well. I guess, and this is extremely subjective, my view would be that it is better to have too much screen real estate than not enough.

@@Change-1820 maybe we should consider getting in touch because I've used virtually of the rocketbook products including their prototype stuff like they're sticky notes that are reusable I've also used the supernote for the last 2 years and I had the same one you do and I've been using obsidian to integrate all of it into one location I also use readwise very extensively as well which has its own plug-in that downloads into obsidian all the highlights taken.

Maybe I missed this, but did you say you copy pages from the note created for the day into a notebook for the project when necessary? Thanks for the great video Ed!

Thanks for the comment and question. I am not sure exactly what you are pointing to in the video. Do you know approximately where it is and I can take a minute to better explain? I just want to make sure I answer appropriately.

@@Change-1820 your son was talking about he has 1 huge notebook, and you were talking about how you make many new notes and can find what you need using the calendar app. So do you ever consolidate these notes files into a single note file? Or do you file them using folders? And either way, do you consolidate by project or topic, etc. Sorry, my initial question was unclear 😊

    • @Change-1820
      @Change-1820  Před 2 měsíci +1

@@AlliedJustin no worries. We just covered a lot of ground. Yes, I prefer to use a folder system with individual notes for particular meetings. There is nothing wrong with either approach. For me, the biggest thing is that a new note sorts the notes in the calendar by creation date. You lose that function if it is all in one note (unless you are using a planner). I do consolidate notes, but usually when I am completely done with a project (or the example of leaving a position) and I will not be going back to it, so it is more of a reference. I hope this helps. This is a great question.
