    Episode Notes:
    1. Captured via the Mega SG.
    2. The Sega CD was not the only version that got scrapped. An NES version was in the works as well, but never was released.
    3. The credits are listed as follows:
Director of Music & FX: Tommy Tallarico
    Music By: Mark Miller
    Samples By: Steve Henifin
Which makes me wonder just how much Tommy T had to do with this.
    4. The Japanese release of this has original artwork from the comic on the cover. It's also expensive as hell.
    5. I have never beaten this game on normal without cheats. I can get to the last stage with a continue or two left, but I get wrecked making my way to the final boss battle. The last few stages of this game are nasty.
    6. The SNES version is 8 megs while the Genesis version is 16 megs. It was pretty clear the Sega release was the lead platform.
    7. I still keep hoping someone finds a near finished Sega CD release of this and gets it to the fans.

From DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL's channel. A user named spuytenduyvilmusic commented:
"Hey folk. Mark Steven Miller here. Thanks for all of the kind words. To clarify a few things: These are my orchestrations. The Genesis sounds are all Neuromantic FM patches including most of the drums which we created from the FM synthesis side of the chip. Thanks to EEP386 for recognizing our FM cymbal sounds.
The "Terminator" voice sample is a friend of ours who did voice over with my wife's 8 bit VO company 'Smartalk'.
GEMS was a very solid sound driver with an advanced feature set for it's time. It runs entirely on the Z80 but can read and post to/from some shared registers with the main game engine to enhance the integration and interactivity of the music with the game. And yes, bad Genesis music comes from bad compositions and laziness. Again, thanks for enjoying this." So, no Tommy Talarico on this one.

I had to repeatedly go back into a bonus room and keep fighting for the extra life. Or switch off current weapon before i lose a life. I agree with your criticisms (maybe minus the music, which I thought was great) and would love to see this title get the "prettified retro" treatment games like "Wonder Boy and the Dragon's Trap" got. A game that captured everything this one did right but balanced the difficulty a bit, improved the fluidity of the graphics, and added a few cutscenes would be an amazing experience.

Oh man, I remember these days when a good action flick was all you needed. I used to take my parents copies of these films to watch them when I was 8 or 9. Some of the games were great while others not so great...I'm looking at you LJN (Terminator). This game wasn't too bad but my favorite is The Terminator on the Sega CD!
Coincidentally, these films got me into firearms as well. I love that Colt .45 Longslide that Arnold carries in the first Terminator film. I carry one just like it as my CCW although mine isn't a Longslide...way too big. The scene with Sarah Connor trying to kill Dyson still gives me chills to this day. That M16A2 is just so sweet. When she goes full auto on him and it's just pissing lead into his office was so damn cool. My very first rifle was an AR-15 A3 that's a lot like the one in the film (still have it). Except mine has a Picatinny rail and an Eotec 512 holographic sight mounted on top.

Very good game. Great visuals, ok sound! Hard as hell, though. Finishing it on real hardware back in the day was quite an accomplishment. I was so proud of myself when I did! Overall I still like Terminator on Sega CD a bit more! This one is still very good, though!

If this had the story of the super Nintendo game with a cut scenes it would be one of the greatest video games ever made

If they were to do a Robocop v. Terminator today, it wouldn't have any violence or guns. It would have a "strong female lead" who somehow brings Robocop and Skynet together and talk about their feeling toward each other. Both Robocop and Skynet would soon fall in love with each other and have a marriage in a "Demolition Man" style utopia where everyone has 'joy, joy feelings' and eats at Taco Bell.

This is one game I never owned on the Mega Drive but really wish I had. I've always enjoyed a good platform shooter since playing the original Turrican on my 8-bit Amstrad CPC! Great video.

This was one of my favorite Genesis games. My family all went to the mall game store and us kids could only pick one game to own. After much back-and-forth pouring over the game selection, (I was a huge terminator fan) I finally picked this one. Glad I did.

Absolutely love this game! I thought I was the absolute badass when I finally completed it back in the day haha the only way I could do it was to manage to keep the machine gun cannon thing you get from Ed 209 and blast that floating terminator skull to bits!

RoboCop vs. Terminator would make a kick assed crossover movie. I'm surprised nobody has done this yet!

This game was hard as hell, only completed it once, but the later stages are pure torture and will have you trying to dodge bullets (and failing) nearly all the time. It had great variety though and part of the difficulty came from the length of the game. So many stages! And that's not counting the secret levels.
Really liked the laser rifle that vaporizes Terminators, and the rapid firing laser pistol (that is rather rare to come across). My go to weapon of choice for bosses however was the grenade launcher that fires controllable grenades.
Every single one of these grenades does a ton of damage and it fires quickly, so you can really pile on damage to the bosses really quickly. It can be a bit difficult to control the grenades, but learning how to do so will really help with some of the bosses as you can hit them from locations where they can't easily hit you, or hit hard to hit bosses.
No boss music though (except maybe for the final boss I think), and for some bosses, the soundtrack completely shuts off when they appear.

Good review. I'm a massive RoboCop and Terminator fan (the first two movies of both respective series, mainly) and this game feels like it was a labor of love from all involved. It feels like it could easily be the third respective RoboCop and Terminator film. It also bucks the trend of movie-licensed games turning out terrible, as so many are infamous for turning out awful but this is a massive exception to the rule. A movie-licensed game that both respects the source material and actually in some ways expands upon it. This game is a strong contender for my favorite Genesis game.

I loved this game as a kid. I thought this was the best looking game I'd ever seen. One thing to help with the difficulty, though, when you die, if you quickly swap weapons, you can keep the gun you were using. So you don't have to fight any boss in the game with no guns. Just tap the button before you respawn. Makes life a bit easier.

I was just going to mention that a Sega CD version would be great. I didn't know that one was in development, and I am really disappointed that they canceled it.
One thing you should add, there is a cheat code for a "more bloody/uncensored" version; throw that one on for some added fun.

  • @daveruda

A sega CD version would have been so cool. These games thrive on good presentation and some spiced up graphics and gameplay, sound effects and music could have made it something extra special.
