So happy to see you back! Yeah, I can't get into these types of decks. I need decks that flow. For me, different art styles are jarring and pull me right out of a reading.

I watch! I adore. I feel comfortable and at home here with you. I am jarred and jangled by decks that do not have extreme continuity visually. Magpie decks are, to me, like listening to jazz. Some people love jazz. It makes me want to run into traffic to make it stop! I need flow and predictability in my decks. For this reason, although I have looked at many flip throughs I own only 6 decks. So many of them just don't make the cut for me. I want to love them all, but I just don't. Knowing this about myself prevents me from buying decks that I later regret. Hope the cough goes away!

Hope you're feeling better and so glad to see you back! Id love to see a collage deck video, that would be really interesting.
For me, I call commercially-available decks with multiple artists 'collab' decks, or 'eclectic' decks if it is multiple styles but made by one person. I'd only use "magpie" for fully DIY decks patchworked together as a one-off, most often by the same person who will be using it (which also then means all the cards resonate for them, as they chose them all themselves). You're not alone, though, in not vibing with Alleyman's. I have yet to meet a collab deck that worked for me. I have a few -- Alleyman's, Lowbrow, Corrupted, etc. -- but they've all been taken apart. Some cards were kept for my own magpie deck, some swapped away with others in the Alley and Mixy/magpie community groups. (Heck, I got the Corrupted almost solely for one Natasa Ilincic card and one Frank Frazetta, with the foreknowledge I was going to swap away most of the rest of them.) I look at the Magpie swaps community as being kinda like the tarot world's equivalent of having fun pen pals. Magpie Mail days are awesome!
Yes, that's definitely a good distinction. I do like the idea of making my own magpie deck, but the thought of breaking decks up is so hard for me!?! I can only IMAGINE the joy of a magpie mail day!
@@AllieSailorFathomFiveTarot I had a bit of a mental block over breaking up decks at first but it was collab decks where I disliked some of the cards that broke the logjam, as it were. After that it felt SO freeing!
For my 1st themed magpies I'm doing elemental themes, starting with fire and water. Having a bit of a hook or theme for magpie deck I think helps too, if you ever decide you want to start one!

So glad you did this video. I also have never liked "magpie" decks-cool word for them. But I really liked the idea of Alleyman’s Tarot, so I bought the guidebook on Etsy-super cheap. This way I could at least be a part of the experience and get to know more amazing cards/decks (websites are always listed)-which has been great. Really like your channel -Shakespeare video was my first one I watched and just bought the deck. Your analysis of that deck was quite enjoyable and has inspired me to learn more about Shakespeare-thanks!

Sometimes I feel/act like a magpie in real life, lol. And I can understand wanting/buying/keeping a deck mainly for the art. But the Alleyman’s Tarot just doesn’t appeal; for similar reasons you state.
The Elora and The Green Menagerie tarot look interesting. But I have the feeling that if I had them I would probably work with them in 1 card pulls rather than 3 cards or larger spreads.

I'm hoping I'll enjoy larger spreads with the GM - that it will hit that balance I want! We'll see. I'd like to be at least a LITTLE bit of a magpie!

I avoided the Alleyman Tarot for just this reason - it's just too disparate in style and appearance and I knew I wouldn't get on with it.
I've tried to use 1 magpie deck. It freaked me out, I kept trying to name the art style(Art history 101 much??) rather than focusing in the cards. My fault, not the deck. It's not part of my collection. :/
