The reason they were crying was the drummer, Tamu, had just come back from maternity leave after her first child. The song is also dedicated to them.

    Here's the complete story.
*Life:* The song is an uplifting song. Not a ballad.
*Stage:* Since this was recorded during the pandemic. This was a livestream concert.
*Band:* The song was a new song. Just before this livestream. The band sent the sheet music to Murata Tamu (drummer) while she was on maternity leave. In Japan. A woman goes on maternity leave for 6 months (by law). Lead singer Mayu has just came off of her maternity leave having a child. Murata knew this new song (she practice at home on her electric set) was going to be played. But before the band started. The whole turned towards Murata. Then guitarist Saki read a statement welcoming back Murata to the band. And dedicated this song to Murat's two children. That's where the tears come it from the band members.
*Cake:* Saki brought the cake in also to celebrate her fellow and friend Hazuki (Saki invited Hazuki to the Mayu Sessions (the project before the members decided to form as a band - that's another story) birthday which happened around the livestream date.
*Life II:* In January of 2022. Nemophila did a one man show (no opening band) in front of an audience. The song *"Life"* was their encore song. Just before the band took their places, Mayu called for a huddle. Apparently, in the huddle she thanked each member since this band was her dream band. After the first course. Bassist Haragushi-san comes over to Mayu to have her spotlight time. It was obvious Haragushi-san was full of happiness she was tearing up. Both Mayu & Haragushi-san met in school and was friends with each other long before the Mayu Sessions project. Towards the end of *"Life".* Mayu's voice started to break while her emotions started to come out. She struggled with singing, keeping it together from tearing up with happiness. The after concert interview (on CZcams in two parts. First part was the rehearsal for this show. Second part was the after concert interview. Both videos has English subtitles - not on Nemophila's channel but search for it on CZcams if you to see it), the band was emotionally drained.
So *"Life"* came around full circle. Drummer Murata Tamu is the mother of the band. Now Mayu has joined Murata as a mother of Nemophila.

The song was for Tamu, welcoming her back from maternity leave, to her new child, and the rebirth of them reuniting. If you noticed, they were all facing Tamu in the set. One of the other comments gives the full story. These ladies are extremely talented, and have infectious grooves. Everyone of them is incredibly talented, and together, wow, they”lol conquer the world, no doubt.

Nemophila is currently in the middle of an 8 show Japanese tour. In early March they will be in the US for a 7 city tour - Sacramento, San Francisco, LA, Houston, Austin (at SXSW), Dallas (where I am hoping to see them) and NYC. It should be a successful US tour although not yet on the level of the Band-Maid tour a few months ago (I saw them in Dallas). Band-Maid visited more cities and sold out larger venues. Every time I watch this video and see Tamu Murata shed some tears, it gets me misty eyed. Never fails.
There are 5 Japanese all female bands that I really enjoy - Band-Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila, Gacharic Spin and Aldious. With Fami joining Lovebites, now all 5 bassists play a 5-string bass, and all 5 are very good (a couple are more than very good).

This is a surprise song for and about Tamu (drummer). She returned to the team after maternity leave. She cries with emotion during the recording. The gift scenes are Hazuka's (guitar) birthday, which was also that day.
Here Haraguchi-san is playing Bacchus - 5 strings, but it's an old recording and she's been using Sadowsky 5 strings for a while.
I recommend the latest single Seize the Fate. There, mayu (vocal) was heavily pregnant.
I also highly recommend Saki's former band (guitar) Mary's Blood. They were amazing at the concerts: Mary's Blood - Wings (live) czcams.com/video/XqtIF1sFzNA/video.html

I heard Mayu (singer) explain the meaning of "Life" when promoting Naon no Yaon 2022 with Keiko Terada who is lead singer and co-founder of the all female metal band Show-Ya. Naon Yaon is a festival that was also co founded by Keiko and has been around for almost 30 years. It's purpose is to celebrate and encourage girls in entertainment and has showcases, talent shows and live top bands playing. So during promotion for Naon '22 Keiko was praising Mayu for the song "Life" and telling her how much she loved it. Keiko was surprise to learn the song was inspired from Mayu's experience at Naon when she was younger. I guess things weren't going as well for Mayu at the time and she was second guessing her path in life. That experience at Naon recharged her and led to events that brought her back to Naon, this time as featured performer in Nemophila. Naon is a pretty big deal and this was their 2nd year in a row performing.
The song is basically about how we are born clean, with limitless potential, you will encounter pain and struggle but use it as fuel, you will fall but get up and eventually you will realize your dreams. As cliché as that may sound, the message is powerful and is the mindset that led Mayu to this point. As for Tamu (drummer), during this video she had just returned to the band from maternity leave after her 2nd child and this was her 1st performance back with the band. The band faced and played to her as a show of love, letting her know how much she was missed when she was gone. That's kinda why there's so much emotion in this performance. The genuine bond this band has together is what I think makes them so extraordinary. Everyone is a 1st class musician but that added love for each other is what I think sets them apart from other bands. You (at least I) feel that positive energy and that's why I think their music just makes you (I) feel good.

So cool you checked this one out, it is very special. The group paying tribute to Tamu's return from maternity leave by facing her and this, combined with the meaning of the words in the song that brings some emotion we can certainly feel. Hazuki's birthday is also celebrated making it a heartfelt song. To your last comment, Nemophila (and Band Maid) ARE my cup of tea. Say, on your "Covers channel" you might check out some of Nemophila's covers like "Crazy Doctor" originally by Loudness. czcams.com/video/dAjfoDqDg2s/video.html
I know Wolfman loves those drums. You might check out this "Short" vid of Tamu playing the end of Sorai at the Aftershock festival. czcams.com/users/shortsHmIk07zwGOw The official Live version of Sorai is also a great song to check out. czcams.com/video/nYOLiDAlHBY/video.html

They have performed twice in the US, Whisky a Go Go and the Aftershock festival. They will tour the US in March.

Where are they? Their 2nd album ,Seize the Fate, was just released in December. The title track is the first single.
You mentioned the drummer and the bassist, they are Tamu Murata on drums, and Hariguchi-san. Looks like a 5 string bass.
Jeff, you can take these girls to your channel too. They have a lot of covers, including Iron Maiden's The Trooper and Aces High.

Thanks guys, enjoy listening to several of the Japanese bands. You have yet to listen to Gacharic Spin who are sometimes quite funky. Or Asterism with three amazing musicians perhaps playing Dawn. It starts slowly but wow ! czcams.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/video.html

I always hear this as a song in which a you mother is talking about her hopes, dreams, and advice for her young child. BTW, all these ladies are 30-ish. MURATA TAMU has two children, and MAYU has an infant.
The performance video is from a Covid live stream concert, but the audio is the studio recording from their first album.
Try to see them in the US in March.

I was in a chatholic school till the '80s. name tag, proper uniform and boy's hair wasn't allowed to reach to the collar, girl's hair to the shoulder, and of course, no dyeing was allowed so you needed to proof that it is your real hair colour🙂
