So admittedly it ISN'T, when you are not tone-policing. Toxic fans jsut can't hadnle that they like something that's not very good. This is simply incapability of standing for what you LIKE instead of insisting everything you like is GOOD, meaning that your values are really on what's popular, and defining being GOOD as being POPULAR.
This kills the art. And Mozart, this is ACTUALLY why Mozart died in poverty. If you insist these critics are BROADLY wrong and Mario Movie is the tentpole for GOOD, you ARE insisting that same goes for Mozart and he was actually the opposite. YOU are "the critic" calling Mozart a bad musician because YOU don't find him "popular", as proven by the fact populsim only propped him up when there was public domain money to be made by stealing his content.
This is why you "fans" are hypocrites, you're projecting Disney's malfeasance when it is the CROWD that is ACTUALLLy doing such malfeasance.
The real reason is simple, critics acknowledge this is just Lorax again. And I can tell because I like Lorax, partly for finding its flaws interesting. That's what happens with ART because art is risky. And that's what happens with corporate mass production, if you like corporate mass production, like how it imitates the chaos in natural formations such as weird chemical deposits in random bright colors.

Looking at this movie through a financial view, I completely understand why Mario and Luigi are separated. Illumination is testing how audiences react to Luigi carrying scenes on his own.
It's all in the psychology. February 2022 had Charlie Day tell everyone that his son loves playing Luigi's Mansion and he's interested in adapting it. Come March 2023 and Day not only is in favour of a Luigi movie but Chris Pratt talks about an NCU and specifically mentions Luigi's Mansion. Add all the tweets, posts, articles and videos in favour of a Luigi movie and there you go.
Mario and Luigi spending half the movie apart has unanimously been accepted as a bad move. But Meledandri is looking at this complaint and quoting the Hulk: "I see this as an absolute win".
Nintendo and Illumination are left with no doubt that people want Mario and Luigi to go on an actual adventure together in the inevitable sequel. They also want Luigi to have his own movie.

Don't even get me started about the themes! They were perfect in everyway. Timing, volume, it was on point to the second, every single time. My only real gripe with it, was Bowser singing. Jack Black is a good singer, but the song is just a bit cringy. The wedding plot was hilarious, don't get me wrong, but a songwriter, Bowser is not, and yet, it makes the movie all the better. One thing I can't help but notice when it comes to movies is over the years, a certain movie genre trends for about a decade, then they move to the next.
1930s was all about exploration and adventure.
1940s was all about Patriotism and Heroes saving the day, (Because of WW2)
1950s was about westerns and romance stories, (People were tired of all the fighting, so they tried something more classic)
1960s was the era of Space Adventure, (Landing on the moon peeked people's curiosity.)
1970s & 1980s was the era of Swords and Sorcery, Dark Sci-Fi and Slasher movies. (Trying Darker themes compared to past projects.)
1990s was the era of action movies and parodies.
2000s and 2010s Superheroes and other movie comic adaptations
and now the 2020s Possibly a new era of Game Movies. (Starting with Sonic, then the Nintendo Cinematic Universe.)
I wonder what will trend next.

This movie is like Nintendo and Illumination saw what the original did, and they decided "y'know what, lets give em what they deserve", and boy did they. It's not perfect by any means, but goddamn is it a blast from start to finish! Just like most Mario Games, it's action-packed and rarely slows down, and all the cameos and references bring a nostalgic tear to the eye. To HELL with the media trying to make it all about THEIR wants, this movie, as i said, gives us what WE want.

One of those critic reviews near the end of the segment where you said “Mario stories aren’t known for their complexity” to paraphrase. I said the exact same thing in a video criticizing the Mario movie, like the most you should expect for the Mario movie was Mario stops Bowser. Anything else in the middle is just gonna be the physical journey with no exposition.

I will however for always and forever tire of bad movies and bad movie trends, of which sadly the superhero genre has been caught up in due to Marvel and DC's rank stupidity. Feeding into the 'superhero fatigue' is really stupid and hypocritical because it's just an excuse for Disney and WB to cover up the fact that they're incompetent just like the animation fatigue' narrative or covid narrative or streaming narrative for all their other, non-superhero stinkers. Narratives that the super Mario Bros movie just blew up like that final fight scene with Bowser.

since people don't need to try anymore, oh wait they did and its Dreamworks, they make mistakes definitly as thats the risk you get from taking many risks to create masterpieces that care about their audiences full of children and adults, Shrek with its well done storytelling about love, Kungfu Panda about finding inner love, and Puss and boots the last wish in Finding acceptance in lack of control.

This movie was just like the video games a fun adventure for everyone. It was a basic hero's journey with little else. Maybe critics have been spoiled by the Pixar movies that usually have something for adults in addition to being a kids movie but this did not have that. Also, I think a lot of the official critics are a little too full of themselves to realize this was first and foremost a kid's movie and saw this movie as something they could dunk on to show they are not a shill of the industry. For a lot of movies, the audience depends on critics to know if it's good or not but this is Mario. Still the biggest character in video game history. So there is a built-in audience, and they came in droves.

Casual people who have never played a video game or a Mario Game for that Matter can Enjoy it too despite tons of refrences. People were saying the same things about comic book movies years ago, and now they are some of the biggest hits we've seen, sure they've had a crappy track record recently(Marvel) but they can still be enjoyed by someone. So I don't see the problem. Can't Entertainment be an Escape from Reality? I don't need to have an existential crisis everytime I watch a FICTIONAL movie
