  • Hey there guys, I have always been slightly fascinated by this bizarre sport so I decided to make a video on it. It took a while to research, but Slap fighting/slap competitions are still very much in their infancy. It originally began in Russia, but it's hard to properly pinpoint a time. Slap fighters tend to range from ordinary people to bodybuilders, MMA fighters and boxers. If you enjoy this video/style of content, please give it a like as it helps me out a bunch and allows the youtube algorithm to push the video to more viewers- cheers!
    Also the background song is by my dad- Richard George Marsland on Spotfiy, so check him out if you like!

      I think the confusion and disconnect of popularity growth is because of CZcams streamers such as moistcritikal aka Charlie as well as a few with gigantic audience and mostly consists of kids. That's what's crazy about this the majority of the is 21 and under. Which is fine I'm not saying they can't watch what they like but I just think a lot of it is manufactured marketing. Moistcritikal has a giant following and he covers the sport. But he is also a video game channel and a Yu-Gi-Oh card opening channel. Amongst other things it's not just that. But there are tons of twitch streamers and review it. I mean it is what it is and you can't really place your opinion on a population that is so absorbed into their phone, the point where it's like all the people who donate money on twitch, this is their new heros and no matter how stupid, they still want to be like them. There's just a whole legitimate reason why this is gaining popularity, it's just that it is so interesting The divide between the MMA and boxing community, to all the CZcamsrs and twitch streamers with a younger audience who have very good marketing. But this is the reason for the rapid expansion. I mean it's kind of like a generational divide.

I know that all sports comes with risk but this sport is going to way too far imo. Kids are going to consume this sport and I promise you this will happen. It makes me so annoyed how popular this is, I'm a gym co-owner in Nairobi Kenya and have banned a handful of people for trying to "poach" people to partake in it offering cash for it just for it to be posted on social media. Dana fails to mention the biggest difference...in boxing, from DAY ONE, you are taught equal amounts of defense and offense. How to roll with punches, duck, weave, raise your guard, clinch when hurt, etc. There are whole coaches who are hired specifically because their defense training, while others are great punching coaches. In Slap, you have ZERO defense. Your only "defense" is to hope and pray you don't get a concussion or worse.

    • @CHamlin86
      @CHamlin86 Před 5 měsíci +9

      Yep. Boxing is more like getting peppered with a lot of smaller blows with the recipient doing everything they can to mitigate the damage, it's quite rare to take a full force punch like these slap competitions. It's telling because in boxing and MMA you're told to defend yourself at all times, the ref is there to stop a fight if one of the contenders is hurt too badly. There are lots of instances where a fighter feels like they can continue but the ref has determined that they've had enough. But in slap contests you're specifically NOT ALLOWED to defend yourself and contenders are often continuing to slap each other well past the point of being seriously injured. It's ludicrous.

    • @indrapratama7668
      @indrapratama7668 Před 5 měsíci +1

      I disagree with your last point. In these "slap" fights, there IS one method of defense, that is being the first person to "slap". In a "slap" fight between two contestants with equal weight, the first person to "slap" has a far higher chance to win, simply because he starts with full power without injury. No one who has been "slapped" to the head (which should be rightly called a strike to the head, NOT a slap) with full power by his opponent can regain their initial mental strength. So, these "slap" fights are not sports at all, but gambling, because your chance of success are almost entirely determined by the flip of the coin. Those who participate in these "slap" fights are basically gamblers, not fighters. Play a stupid game, win a stupid prize.

    I knew this was a horrible idea from the beginning. People are opening themselves up to a free hit at max strength to the head. it doesn't matter how tough you are mentally or what you project to be. The head has vulnerable stops where even if our strong you will go down. And this is shown in most of the videos. In this sport serious injury is promoted and can result in "not recovering" as shown.

    Yes, but not all of them connect, not all of them are aimed specifically to the head, and not all of them are at the same strength as they are always moving around the arena. And specially on later rounds when both fighters are exhausted. And boxers are matched on height and weight (Class).
    This, on the other hand, is a stand still, charged up slap with chances to recover longer for the next hit than in a boxing match. With a completely unfair match up.

When you say, 'Careful, you'll die very young' they give a half-assed 'oh no' and keep doing it with extra vigor. If you keep this in mind, a lot of people's insane behavior makes more sense.
      My dad was one of these dudes, he had like five ongoing suicidal habits. When he wasn't courting a heart attack from binging tons of food, he was getting into bar fights hoping his head would hit the pavement, or racing a muscle car down mountainside switchbacks, drinking until he was half-comatose, shitting himself and pissing blood, or working as a taxi driver, then an oil refiner. The man wanted to die, but also wanted to be seen as brave and invincible. Drinking got him, ultimately. Getting knocked out is not a defense mechanism. It's the trauma to the brain causing an electrolyte imbalance, which shuts off the brain. Electrolytes are responsible for neuron impulse conduction, aka what makes out brain run. When you're punched in the face, the balance of electrolytes are disturbed, and the brain tries it's best to "repair" or replenish this balance. If the punch is too great in force for the brain to recover in time, or too many punches are taken in succession with enough force to not allow the brain to recover in time, the brain shuts off. It's the brains inability to retain electrolyte imbalances that causes a knockout.
    TLDR It's not a defence mechanism, but the result of an insufficient one.
