After arriving in 'Guate', we head out to try some 'Comida Tipica' (typical local food), explore one of Guatemala's most historical and interesting cities. I am looking forward to your series in Guatemala and Central America. I am from Texas but have not been below Mexico. I always love seeing different cultures and their foods. I have had lots of tamales in my life but never one with just masa and not filling - so interesting. Thanks for taking us along and for sharing facts about the city.
So happy to have you along with us Jenn! 🥰❤️
Y’all are giving me such wanderlust!! I spent about a week in Nicaragua years ago and just visited Mexico for the first time last year, and I want to get back down to that area so bad. Amazing people, places, food, everything. And just a good pace of life.
So glad you enjoyed it Ben! Such an awesome part of the world 😍😍❤️

The eternal spring country.
Great content. Thanks for sharing. I showed this to my students. We are studying Guatemala. 🇬🇹
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it 🥰❤️
I am truly enjoying the South America trips. Guatemala seems really old world. And then the people have that Amerindian look...amazing.
So glad to have you along with us Nix 🥰❤️
60% of our population are Mayan descendants, we speak 22 different languages here most are Mayan with an exception of a few like Spanish the official language here and Garifuna which are African descendants. You can actually tell where the Indigenas are from by looking at their traditional woven garments, they are different colors.
What a beautiful city! You said it perfectly Matt , with the different type of architecture and the mountains! Beautiful ❤️
So happy you enjoyed it Jo Ann!!! 🥰❤️
Harriet and i have not spent time Guatemala. just passing through. One day we will spend time in Xela. Harriet and i have always said. I’ve never been to xela before but I hope to go my next trip to Guatemala. You guys should def check out Santa Cruz del quiche that is where I’m from, you can check out chichicastenago for their market, in the actual city of quiche there are Mayan ruins , small but there also Mayan caves!! In another city in quiche closer to where I am there is like a hot spring? It’s called agua caliente and Its a lake but the hot is steaming!!!! There’s food vendors there etc! It’s in a city called san Andres sabacaja !! quiche is really slept on! But anyway I hope you guys enjoy your trip!!!!

Thanks for taking us along to Xela, seems like an interesting city (also seems a lot less people/activity than in Mexico?). That bus ride though.. not very relaxing! 🤦 Your courtyard takeaway looks yummy! Never realised the city is so high above sea level. Keep on having fun, thanks for the video! ♥️♥️
It definitely felt that way yeah! A lot calmer 😃

As a guatemalan I'm happy you could come to our country hopefully yo enjoyed yourselves!!
Great video. I loved the scenes of the city. I had several students from Guatemala, and they were the nicest people. It is nice seeing this video. I had this one student, last named De Valencia. He had red hair. He told a story about sitting atop a bus while it was being driven and throwing luggage off the roof. Lovely video.
Haha, what a story, glad it wasn’t our luggage 😃 Thank you Marcia! ❤️
Love the video! I need to catch up on the latest few, I love seeing the different cultures and especially the food!

Thank you so much! 🤗❤️
nice to have you guys in xela, am from xela
I’m so enjoying your travels across Mexico and now into Guatemala. I wanted to let you know that the tamales are typically made from Masa harina which is a flour that is used to make masa dough. Masa harina is like the all-purpose flour used to make pie dough, or bread flour to make bread dough.
Thank you so much Angela! Really appreciate the knowledge 🥰❤️
Hola! Muchachos!!! Saludos cordiales!!!!

It was really quaint, one of our favourite hotels 🥰❤️
Thanks to share this video I am from xela but I live USA
So glad you enjoyed it Juan! Love to the US from Guate!
Thanks for choosing Guatemala as a travel destination and for sharing! There's lots more to see at Xela, in Guatemala is known to be the "cradle of culture", so much history and culture in gastronomy, traditions, arts and even in the intellectual topic. If you ever come back, I would recommend Semana Santa and visit other natural destinations near the region. Saludes from a local!
Hi! I have been watching your very interesting videos of the Philippines when this vlog appeared. I didn't know that you have also vlogged Mexico and Guatemala.
I am enjoying your South America journey.

I Can’t believe you are in Xela!!! You were one of my favorite GBBS contestant of all times and now you are in my hometown! Small world! I’m glad you had a good time and enjoyed the food. A note on the tamales. We eat them like a tortilla, that is why it doesn’t have a filling. That said, we have many time of tamales, most made out of corn. Thanks for highlighting my beautiful Xela.
Ahh thank you so much Ana! Really appreciate it 🥰 Lots of love! ❤️
@@MattandJulia 🥰
Cerveza por favor!!!! When the bus breaks down. And they ALWAYS BREAK DOWN...LOL Your hint was them having the engine open and working on it when you got there!! Lol! 🚎 But you didn't have to ride the 🐓🐓🐔 bus..lol. you haven't lived until you ride the chicken bus. Great video! Thankyou! Much love!❤❤❤😎🏜🇺🇸🌈 I wanted to clarify for you that Maza flour or Maza Harina is very much like our flour but it is corn very finely ground. So you guys are right it is corn dough but it's properly called Maza. The tamales are rolled in the Maza. Pork, pepper, cheese whatever filling. And then the Maza. Then the corn husk (soaked in water) is than wrapped around the tamale and tied. Then placed into giant steamer pots and steam cooked. Maza is also same ingredient for most tortillas. Etc.
Hahaha, it should have been a “tell-tell” sign 🤣
Thank you so much for the information, really appreciate it 🥰 such an interesting process to make the tamales! ❤️
Welcome to Guatemala city ❤❤❤🇬🇹
