  • This video shows you the new Speedmaster Oldsmobile 400 425 455 Low Rise single plane Intake Manifold part # PCE281.1740 for Oldsmobile big block V8's. It has a very surprising siamesed runner design that I belive is very important to understand before purchasing it.
    One other note I didn't mention in the video: If you will be using the Speedmaster intake manifolds with heads that are milled for increased compression, and plan on having the sealing surfaces of this intake milled, the flanges are not cast very thick at all and don't leave much material to remove.
    Here is a link to the intake mainifold on their website:

    Guys, I just found out that Speedmaster has allegedly blatantly counterfeited another company’s product and Summit Racing Equipment in response has pulled ALL Speedmaster products. See this video to hear it from the horse’s mouth:

      Speedmaster has been copying other products since their beginning. They went TOO far this time when they copied one and then used another company's quality name on their copied product.
      SHAME on them.... 🤨
      Edit: I believe "Speedmaster" was also one and the same company as "Procomp", and "Cat" from back in the day. I remember the big deal with the cheap "Cat 3D" Oldsmobile connecting rods when they came out over a decade ago. The rods looked like pretty much a direct rip-off of an Eagle design.
      Why has this company changed it's name 3+ times? 🤔
      And to think that they actually won a SEMA award also, off copying everyone else's hard work. 🤷🏻

      Wish them or Jegs/both would refuse as many overseas products as possible.

      @gordocarbo It's unfortunate, but IF the mail order companies refused the Chinese stuff, we'd lose MANY guys out of the hobby because the USA made performance engine parts are totally and COMPLETELY gouging the HELL our of their customers. Some of the USA made parts have gone up OVER 150% markup in the last several years. People need to get their heads out of their asses, and figure out how to make products at a MUCH lower cost and/or QUIT being greedy bastages. They're gonna SCREW themselves right OUT of business by keeping up what they are doing.
      I AM normally a 100% buy American kind of guy, but lately even I have gone without some of the stuff I normally buy during a race season because of the ridiculous prices of the stuff.

    Have you seen the runners on the Oldsmobile Offenhauser Duel Quad , no runners just open chamber or plenum! Runs grate !

  • @SPSteve
    @SPSteve Před měsícem

    If you have the hood clearance, use the Victor. The Torker is OK, but it's ancient and the plenum is small. It'd be interesting to see a dyno test or some track times between the Torker and the Speedmaster. I stopped racing 12 years ago and just do restorations now, but I had a Victor on my 468 Olds and the car ran 9.30 @ 148. Low speed performance was great.

    The runners probably would work similar to that of a dual quad intake with short lengths.

  • @davelowets
    @davelowets Před 2 měsíci

    I had much better luck with the Offy Port-O-Sonic intake over the Torker.
    I eventually moved up to the Dominator flange Super-Sonic intake later on when I got a much better set of heads.
    I like them both.

    I like the injector bungs, that looks interesting.
    I like the torker on my 455 mainly for the spread bore flange and it runs great with the thermoquad on it.
    I suspect the runner idea came from Kenne-Bell's Buick manifold.

      @CobblerBob  Před 7 měsíci

      Hmm… I’m not familiar with it, I’ll have to check Kenne Bell’s it out! I tried to contact Speedmaster. I emailed them for design intent information and called them 3 times, but never got any real response.

    • @davelowets
      @davelowets Před 2 měsíci

      The Thermoquad is a piece of garbage compared to a Quadrajet.
      The plastic body of the Thermoquad is just about GUARANTEED to be warped or mis-shapen after all these years of being torqued to a manifold. Hell, even many of the Quadrajet metal main bodies have enough problems on their own these days, and it's getting ever harder to find a decent core to work with. Junk the Thermoquad, and go with a Quadrajet.

    I miss the shoe videos. I do watch your earlier videos. They are fantastic. They led me to try some of the techniques on shoes I thrifted. Turned out pretty nice. I like your car videos but I hope you go back to the shoes sometime . Take care.

    I have an old Offy intake thats made similar to that. It ran real good. Its the "360 Equiflow" model. Cast in 1981. Used a Port O Sonic on a 455 yrs ago, it ran high 10s in the 1/4 @ 128mph. Ive been curious about how these Speedmaster intakes for Olds work.

    • @gordocarbo
      @gordocarbo Před 2 měsíci

      Ran an extrude honed port o sonic on a 85 GT I had. 460/c6.
      Dont waste your money on that chicom stuff. know of one or two products that perform worse than stock.

    • @davelowets
      @davelowets Před 2 měsíci

      The 360° Offy wasn't a bad intake for a mild small block Olds on the street.

    • @davelowets
      @davelowets Před 2 měsíci

      @gordocarbo The Port-O-Sonic and the Super-Sonic really benefitted from milling out the cloverleaf plenum pattern and opening up the plenum volume on a more than mild big block.
      Was there any work done to yours? I don't know about the Ford intakes, but the ones for an Olds really needed a port job on the runners also, as the were pretty small on an as cast manifold. There is plenty of meat to do it though.

    Way they did those runners is a joke.
    Plus notice the runner entry roof. Sharp 90 deg angle.
    Flowed more than 1 chicom intake and they didnt even make OEM numbers
    Buy US while we still have choices guys. Dont be fooled by cheap..or a new overseas brand. Probably the same thing
