That was a very nice attempt to built an Orthodox Byzantine Cathedral!
It might be relatively simple from the outside but our churches are breathtaking inside!
Very nice try! The shapes, the arches, the complicated domes… really good!
The inside was almost impossible to be done correctly! The icons in the walls etc… Minecraft isn’t programmed like this so, to the point you could built is perfect!
Orthodox Churches are not like the Western churches!
The Byzantine style focused on the inside of the church, on the spiritual side. With all these holy faces looking at you etc etc
Western churches were developed later and being in the West, they got influenced by the Renaissance.
All Papal Latins and Protestant churches are like museums. They focus so much on the material side, they decorate them soooo much in the outside and then inside are practically empty…
Also, in Orthodoxy we don’t use statues! This is an old pagan custom so you will never see statues in any of our churches!
Byzantine cathedral’s floors have many patterns!
Rarely the two-headed eagle but most of the times there was a central point under the main dome where the Christ Pantokrator is located.
It’s a big mosaic made of marble and it has circle patters.
In Constantinople the central was for the Emperor and the smaller ones around it were for the royal court.
