    Good video... I agree most areas are under 400 yards , actually under 40 for fire fights... of course depending where you live... Also it depends on laws political feeling of your area... my mag all have at least one rifle with same ammo as the other members .... similar actions and a knowledge of each persons rifle... but we look like hunters... blend in .. but we do all dress the similar ... I agree and would look at your area decide the most common regular range you will shoot ... not the longest , and not the shortest. The most common... the work on what calibre works for you ... if you have a group or family try to at least pick the same round ( so all carry the same).

    You are literally the only person I’ve heard recommend a rifle if you can only have one. I’ve always thought this myself. Most ppl recommend a handgun

      Handguns definitely have their place, but the rifle is the 20% that produces 80% of the results. 💯

      For a first time shooter, a handgun is more useful in heavily populated areas, in wide unpopulated areas a rifle is much more capable. Regards.

      @@AlexanderBushi maybe easier to conceal in populated areas but a rifle is easier for a new shooter to be accurate with I think.

      Most people are not good at all with a pistol without a shit load of training. And most of that group think that making lots of noise at the range once or twice makes them John Wick.

    Shot placement is critical practice not just at the range practice in the woods practice from your tree stand with whatever you're hunting with or for have to be comfortable with whatever you're shooting bow or gun Great video Semper Fi brother

    I recommend guns for each type of hunting and a bow. Muzzle loader, rifle large and intermediate or smaller, shotgun, and a handgun in case of predators. I am more likely to put meat on table with bow or muzzle loader. Lot of that is season lengths too. I practice bear drills and sitting butt to low to ground like I find out hunting. I buy in bulk. But need deer and varmint rounds too. Should pay the cost and buy shotguns shells too.

    12 gauge, bird shot, turkey load, buckshot, slug. It covers all the bases. Now more than 50 yards and you better say a hail Mary, or have practiced at range.

    We're on the same page with the m&p 2.0. I have the compact 40 sw. I'm looking into getting one in 9mm though because of availability of rounds. 40 isn't as common as 9. Even though I have a boat load of 40. Ultimately if I had to pick only 3 guns I'd have a problem whittling my list down. Because I feel like a 10/22 would definitely be on my list. It's quiet and ammo is cheap. You can easily kill squirrel, rabbit, ground hog, birds and all kinds of small game. So I'd have to go with 3 long guns and a bonus pistol. My 556 ar (sheer availability of ammo) my benelli 12 guage, marlin 10/22 and my m&p 2.0. I'd love to get a 30 hate but the economy is absolute shite right now.

    The reason why people recommend a handgun is because they will blend in and hide their handgun on them and that they will be avoiding other people. I don’t agree with that what do you say to those people?

  • @tstanf

    I think optics is just as important IMO. I would spend at least 1/2 of what I spent on the weapon, on an optic, if you can afford it. Currently Amazon has the Vortex Crossfire II 2-7X32 on sale for $149.00.

    • @efficientinthefield
      @efficientinthefield  Před 7 měsíci

      Agree. I usually spend half to an equal amount of the price of the firearm on optics. 👍

  • @mikepotts9382

    I agree with your 3 gun theory, but my 3 are 12g if the targets get past my 308, and 5.56. Pistol side. 9mm would be good, but i gotta go with 40 or 45. Because i haven't found a 9mm that fits good in my hand.

      You must have some real mits on you. 🥳 My M&P 2.0 came with "spacers" that increase the grip size. I wear a large glove and I could have gone bigger than I did with the spacers.

    I've seen so many guys shoot a 300 win mag, 270 or 7mm shoot once a year and miss their deer half the time even with some training prior to the hunt. Those are fine for elk or moose, but try looking at something with faster target acquisition. Optics fit into target acquisition for sure also. With 6.5CM, you can hit your target and wont have to search for your target for the follow up shot. For my area, (Wyoming) I like AR10 chambered in 6.5CM with optics that offer both good range, and fast target acquisition like the Sig Tango msr LPVO 1-10X28
    Dont forget to stockpile a few thousand rounds!

      Or if you can spend more, the Primary Arms PLx 1-8x24mm Compact would be ideal. I'm talking at 1X it's like a red dot, 8X good to 600+yrds

    • @efficientinthefield
      @efficientinthefield  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I think we can agree that 300 Win Mag, 270, and 7mm Rem Mag are all great deer hunting options at range for the right shooter. That's a lot of the problem that the shooters in your scenario don't realize. They probably have too much gun. Knowing your own limits and the sweet spot, like how you know yours and explained your choice, is the key to being effective at range. Too many dudes feel like having the big boy cartridge makes them more of a man, while I would argue that having too much gun to feel more like a man makes you less of a man if you can't get the damned job done with it. Results are the bottom line. 🙏

    We shoot similarly human targets here (kangaroos) all the time and ball ammo is shit! It kills of course but in now way more efficient than quality 55g soft points. Just my opinion hold my feet to the fire if you like I don’t give a fuck.
