- Skijoring is a curious winter sport in which skiers are pulled behind horses and over jumps while trying to collect rings. We head to Leadville, Colorado where the annual event takes place.

Excessive whipping and spurring doesn't make me wanna do this sport
If you're a good horseman and love not only the sport but also the horses you shouldn't ever need to use them.
They are good tools if used correctly
BrooklynJade you don’t have too use whips or spurs.... there is and is gonna be whips and spurs in every horse sport or show you go to so cowgirl up and go to them
This would be fine if the horse enjoyed it and WANTED to do this. And probably some do. But whipping or spurring the horse should be completely BANNED. Illegal!

Anyone who considers themselves a good rider, or actually likes horses, should never need to use spurs or a whip. Just as they should never need a bit either. If you can't get your horse to do as you ask by consent, you've no business being on its back. Otherwise don't be surprised if they decide one day that they've had enough, remember horses are a lot stronger than you are, even a foal has more power than a human and can do some serious damage. In fact I would probably go as far as to say if you really liked horses, you'd leave them alone altogether. We have developed beyond having to use animals for our own needs.
