- Ive had these seats chillen for a few weeks now not exactly sure what to do with them but Steve showed some interest so we swapped them into the wagon and they look super clean in it!

Re-skining seats is pretty easy, I swaped my drivers Leather with a passenger. Got dual map pockets in the back that way. 😎

Well that is one way to get your filthy interior cleaned. Just ask a friend to install some seats! You are the friend everybody wants to have! ;-)
The variant seats pivot different to get a flat floor when the back seats flipped down. I guess that's why that clip is different as well, it's designed to take more abuse. I've re skinned seats before, it's pretty straightforward. Usually it is folded around the metal and held in place with a metal wire

To change the leather on the back part of the rear seats ist possible by yourself. On the outside of the leather is a stripe of plastic that ist pushed over the back metallpart of the seat and clamped in. With a flat screwdriver you can get the leather lose on the outside around the plastic stripe and clamp it over to the metallpart of the variant rearseats. I think if you change the red leather to the variant rearseats you must cut new holes for the lower pins on the side.
In my Golf 3 VR6 3 door I also have recaro seats, the GTI Edition version in black with the red logos that you also have.
I fitted passat sedan seats into my passat wagon. Had the same issue with the latching till I had a feel in them and found they were multidrilled and had a hole further up so I just moved them up carefully cutting a hole in the leather. Had to make a join peace for the middle out of a small piece of threaded bar that fitted inside the upper holes.
I'd have a feel and see before stripping them. Dare say all were multidrilled it makes sense rather than having special ones for just the wagon.
I was scratching my head for weeks even tried selling the interior on. But then was taking pics for an add and grabbed the one back piece and felt the extra hole

I’m fitting mk4 recaros on my mk3 variant and had the same problem with the back seats. The front seats need different wider rails and the front mounting place is different.. would be awesome to see how you would fit them propally! 😇👀🙌

Won't the rear seat issue of the mounting points and the gap be due to the car being a syncro? As they have a higher boot floor than a normal estate car or Golf.
