Nifty Midcap 100 better than Nifty 50? | Index Funds

  • Nifty 50 index mutual funds allow us to invest in top 50 stocks however most people are unaware that there are more than 40 index mutual funds.
For example, Nifty Midcap 150 index that has given close to 32% annual returns vs Nifty 50’s 7% returns.
When we invest in Nifty Midcap 150 stocks, we are investing stock number 101-250.
And typically stock numbers 101-250 are more volatile and also more risky but at the same time provide better returns in the long run.
For example Nifty 50 index has given 14% annual returns in the last 5 years
While Nifty Midcap 150 index has given close to 20% returns.
In my view, building a portfolio of index funds is a better approach than relying on one single index fund.

I have invested in about 15 different Index Funds in the lat 1 year and mostly in NIFTY SMALLCAP 250 and Nifty Midcap 150 INDEX Funds and sitting with a portfolio profit of over 25%. Very happy with my decision so far.. let's see if it can continue to grow

I think by investing in 15 different funds will won’t give you maximum returns when you only invest in max 3-4 funds and increase the amount it will compound more than investing in 15 with divided funds. Yes risk is also a factor to consider but after 7 years all small caps will show good results 🙌

@@Jainish__Jain Well, that's what I feel sometimes but when I look at my Portfolio each of the INDEX Funds of mine is currently giving a minimum of 13% and maximum of 30% returns. So I will continue monitor my Portfolio and will continue to invest further on every 5% dip. Thank you for your suggestion

Thats good…But you are missing the expanse ratio which you provide 0.15% on average for index funds every year so if you reduce the number of the funds around 7 then your expanse ratio will also low..Initially, 15*0.15= 2.25% and now 7*.15= 1.05% so you are now getting 1% more every year and 1% descent amount at the end after years of investment.
This is my calculation pls correct me if it’s wrong..
