- I found this (Trailway)1989 Yamaha TW 200 through a friend that had it stuffed in a garage and just wanted it gone. I figured $150 was worth the gamble. This video will show you some of the challenges you may face when attempting to restore and rescue some of these old bikes. Nice vid. Poor tank. Ebay is great for old parts on these. Dump some marbles and bee bees in there, duct tape the holes and wrap in an old blanket, an hour in the dryer with no heat when the wife goes shopping ought to do it. Got an '89 dub too. And an '09 and '21 and '24. Dam just realized forming an exponential curve...

Vinegar works well to clean out a tank. Also magic eraser and trim care works wonders on bringing plastic back.

I did a similar project like that. I bought the same stuff for the tank, but I bought marbles from the dollar store and put them in as well. Then I put the tank in the back of my truck for a week in a towel to prevent damage. Vibration from my daily ride to work and rotating the tank a bit cleaned it up great.
That’s a great idea I’ve never done that but that is very smart marbles were probably easy to get out you didn’t have to worry about debris in the tank. That product works great but is very expensive. Thanks for watching the video and thanks for the awesome comment🇺🇸👍🏻

The thing with the razor blade to remove the oxidization, you can do the same thing with a torch. Clean it as well as you can and then just hit it with a torch or the heat gun. That will also kind of realign the molecules in the plastic come you don’t wanna overdo it or you can melt it but when you’re done it will also make the plastic more pliable but it’ll make it shiny again and get rid of the harsh oxidation. You’ve got old bike parts around, taking old fender or something I don’t care about and practice on that. You can also put rocks and gravel or a bunch of nuts and bolts in the tank and shake that up to get the loose rust broken off before you reseal it. They also sell gas caps on eBay for these for under 20 bucks usually.

The cricket will cut a gas cap gasket. Wd40 and a scotch Britt pad to clean the plastic.
I never thought about using a cricket for the gas cap gasket. That would be kind of cool.
Big differences between 87 and 88. 87 is a TW all to itself. In 2001 they also changed the stator. Different carbs have been used throughout the years. They are all set very lean from the facftory. drill out the air / fuel mixture screw plug and adjust that to about 2 turns out. Also going up a size or two on the main jet will help.
The one that I have is actually an 89. But my knowledge of them is minimal so I appreciate the input. They are a super cool bike very unique! Thanks again for the info👍🏻
Cool, I been watching your other videos on the 650 Burgman and came across this one. I'm getting ready to buy a 200TW this coming week. I just sold my 650 Burgman and thought I would get the TW for on and off-road use. Do you still have the TW 200? if so, what do you think of it?

They also on the update upgraded the timing chain tensioner from a manual adjustment to an auto adjuster

@@ManCaveMayhem currently waiting on an answer from a customer of mine. He has 2 1987 tw 200’s in his barn with roughly 4500 and 4900 miles on the clock. Told him id give him 600$ for the 2 bikes. I’ll likely be goin through the same process you are with the both of them.

Cool project. Fun bike for offroad, local riding. Kind of late now, but I wonder if you could have used those round plastic bristle brushes, on your drill, on the plastics. Then hopefully the heat gun would remove the scratches. How's that Jeep project coming?
That’s a good idea I don’t know how that would work but I do know that the heat gun doesn’t really take much of the scratches out. I don’t really have a Jeep project going at this time. I do have my old Jeep scrambler But haven’t really been doing too much to it.
Am rebuilding a tw 200 to a 250 but engine are rare is the any possibility to get an engine from USA

@@ManCaveMayhem Yes unfortunately I purchased it 01/2020 and have not rode it really yet it sits covered and protected in my shed has brand new tires will ride someday also do you still have the Burgman Scooter
