That Corolla is perfect. I had visions of building something similar. I made a mistake and bought a TE72 which turned into a mess. Should have bought the generation before it, this one. Best part? No smog, so you can do what you want to do. Would have cost a fortune getting my TE72 smogged and legal with no horsepower. The smog cutoff year between those two generations is everything and is definitely reflected in the price!

Ah, you are right. I keep thinking it's '79 for some reason. Well, if it was a 74-75 TE3x then it would be golden. Maybe that's why he said he kept the stock cat. But it would fail a visual without that stupid little paper dryer tube thingy from the intake snorkel to the header right off the bat. Stupid freakin' smog laws. The bane of my car modifying existence.
Matt Mead Yeah, used to be 25 years or older and then they switched it to 75 or before. Been lots of talk the past few years of moving that year up, but I don't hold my breath. Especially with all the advances that are being made in electric and self driving cars. The time of actual driving being an enthusiastic activity is not too far away. Cool smog guys will let minor visuals go if the numbers pass.
My TE72 sat in my driveway for 3 years while I waited for them to change the smog laws up to 1980 (It was a 1980). Finally got rid of because of how hard it would have been to get it smog legal. I don't think they will ever bump it up. But yeah, driving cars will be like riding horses soon. Just a hobby on the side.

He's knowledgeable about cars and motorsports, he's passionate and excited in front of the camera, he's got friends who build sick cars, and he gets them to come by and show them off to us, for free. In terms of his professional credentials, the man's got a Linkedin full of digital media and magazine credentials. He seems to be able to do everything from video production to writing editorials for Super Street.
Ok...but he is doing too much in these videos. Guests cant speak a word because, he is always talking, like he is trying to take over the show... I like humble people more... and whats with the beer on work hours bright daylight? its not cool...it alcoholism... I would feel bad being the only one who is drinking...
You know the only reason we got to see the two cars in the video was because Nads is friends with Scottie Kanemura, right? Friends talk with each other differently than a guest talks to an interviewer. I didn't find Nads' informative explanations to be too much at all, especially as it didn't seem like Scottie was too comfortable with a camera in his face.
In terms of the day drinking, did it ever occur to you that maybe, juuuuust maybe it's 5pm, Nads has finished his work day and is off the clock, and decides to open a cold brew with his friends in the back lot? It's called happy hour here in America, it's extremely common and entirely unrelated to alcoholism. An alcoholic doesn't drink at work, they never make it to work in the first place.
Damn Nads is bringing the goods, all these beautiful cars coming into the yard because of him is just fantastic. All I can say is instead of Nads telling us facts about the owners car, he would be much better off asking more questions that lead the owner into telling us the facts. Overall loving this new alcoholic addition to DT, hope to see him more in the future.

My first car was a 75 SR5....but it looked nothing like this one. The shape is pretty much spot on....but my SR5 was on the far other end of the condition spectrum. Rear floor boards and rocker panels were rusted away and the car would bow in the middle when I hit a bump. The tops of the fenders and the strut towers were rusted away and the struts lean in toward the engine. I worked on those issues for 6 months....cutting and welding angle iron and pipe to form a sub-frame connectors and to get the strut towers back into place and held there. Once done, the car handled like a champ....all the bracing and connecting made the car very rigid and improved the cornering like crazy. A few engine mods were done after the head gasket failed and full engine rebuild was done.

A lot of hating on Nads here... I think he's great and brings a lot of interesting knowledge and passion to the show but perhaps he could adjust his presentation a little yeah. If you're going to drink a beer every video that's fine but you don't have to always talk about it and maybe try asking the guests about the car/s more than just showering them in praise. I wouldn't even mind a dedicated series of Nads talking about the history of JDM tuning or something like that instead of him overpowering the DTs. On a side note... that SR5 is fucking gorgeous.

Sometimes it's nice to have someone else do all the talking and bring up interesting points that one may not bring up or forget. Sometimes things we create, places we've been to, our career may interest others but we may take them for granted. I would rather have someone else do all the talking for me but that's not always the case. Maybe people would like him a little more if he worked on his voice quality.

Sweet SR5.. I had one in 1980. I Modified the 2TC with a Weber and headers.. No Cat. Put low profile 14" tires.. I had a CHP officer reminding me on I-580 that the speed limit was only 55.. LOL It was a fun car to drive even in snow around Lake Tahoe
