- The Legend of Greatfather Winter
The term "Winter Veil" is said to stem from a supernatural being referred in many cultures to as Greatfather Winter. As he would walk the land late in the seasons, winter itself would be his billowing cloak. In his wake was the blanketing of the land in snow, and thus it is said that Greatfather Winter would cast his wintry veil over the land. Though parts of Azeroth may lie in snow, it gives the land time for rebirth and renewal.
The Dwarves
Ever consumed with the research of their origins, the dwarves choose to celebrate the season as a recognition of Greatfather Winter himself. They consider him to be the personification of one of the ancients of Azeroth - the titans. Much as they claim lineage in one degree or another to these mystical beings, they consider their snowy home of Dun Morogh as the prime example of Greatfather Winter's blessings.
The Tauren
The tauren and their shamanistic understanding of winter, along with their recent emergence into druidic endeavors, fit in well with the legend of Winter Veil. They focus almost entirely on the renewing aspects of the lore however, leaving legend worship to those races (as they view it) less in tune with the nature of things. Many tauren choose this time as the right time to give thanks for the blessings of their new home in Mulgore.
Feasting
The idea of feasting during this time of year is one that traces its origins to the legend itself. As Greatfather Winter walked Azeroth, bringing winter in his wake, it is said he would provide a bounty for those who welcomed his presence. As such, the idea of feasting during the Winter Veil would bring together communities as they shared whatever they had. Typically, a single day of merriment and feasting welcomed the change, all in anticipation of the land's renewal.
Modern Day Observation
Other cultures have begun to recognize the Feast of Winter Veil as a time of great celebration, though not in the same traditions as the legend bases it in. Customs, often unrelated to anything other than a chance for celebration and gift exchange, have made their way into modern day observation of the season. Even the image of Greatfather Winter is sometimes used, but more as a harbinger of commercial exploit rather than as a supernatural titan.

Winter Veil special video. I am sorry I did not get it out earlier, I've worked on Christmas and today more to recover from the time spent for the Zereth Mortis video. I have many Winterspring videos on my channel (some are gameplays) but I did not have a loop with the Winterspring (Cataclysm edition) and Day / Night Mountain (aka Dun Morogh or Classic Winterspring) tracks. I think a lot of people accept this zone as 'the best over Dun Morogh' because it's faction neutral. Personally, I love all winter zones in WoW.

thank you for this amazing video! it feels so cozy, so much like my childhood spent playing WoW during the holidays while it snowed outside, no school, no worries at all, just the seemingly endlessly outstretching world beyond the screen. the melody with the violin here is especially reminiscent of old WoW, it captures perfectly that mystical aura of a forest trapped in snow, so mysterious and nostalgic.

I can remember dragging guildmates here to kill the demons for the eye of shadow for Benediction. Fortunately, it only took an hour of farming. Never came up here for much else than occasional pvpbut I did do most of the quests and have some good memories. I remember one rogue player that spent countless hours farming for rep for that special mount here. Hello to any old vanilla Shadowmoon players.
Ahh the memories of staying up until 2AM as a dwarf hunter just to tame the rare RakShiri saber cat. Great times!

I miss this place and the days of when wow was great 😢
Been playing only 4 years, a lot can happen in just 4 years. I was 16 then and I remember running around winterspring for the very first time. Knowing nothing and just taken away with the vibe of the zone. Legion was my first expansion and I didn't know what end game was like. But I woulda stayed subbed just to sit in these classic zones and take naps.
You know it. Who cares about endgame if they can relax by just visiting the right places? :D

What I loved about this zone was the fact that the Alliance players always helped me.

Kinda funny, how in Vanilla you were more often in late Game Zones farming stuff for an eternity, than in some other Addons (WOTLK provided no reason to leave Dalaran at all...)

You can still enjoy it, but not with the friends because they moved on with their life. You can enjoy it for the world, for the music, for the art in general.
Don't be sad that it's over, be happy that it happend.
@@Meisio ppl take for granted that they can still play, I guess. Sure, it's not the same, but it can still be relaxing if you play it with that in mind and you find similar ppl (well, I do struggle to enjoy it, more than before 2017, because of my escalating inner anxiety and (thoughts about) the world but yh, it's not the game's fault, even tho it is part of the world/affected by it and the greedy shareholders etc).
I just hope ppl will realize what matters in life and quit being toxic and way too cynical and selfish in every way. But good luck with not being brainwashed by such mentalities, which are pushed 24/7.
