- A special day with just 300 guests to preview the release of the DVD called "For One Night Only" featuring Slades Jim Lea performing his one & only solo gig 16 years previous. Then followed a Q&A session for an hour. To top it off and a complete surprise, Jim goes backstage and gets his guitar and treats the crowd to a few rockin' songs. This all took place at the same venue of the original gig, the Robin 2 in Bilston, UK. Lots of love and memories in the room on this special day.
Thank you Jim. - Zábava
The creative genius behind Slade.
With Slade we had Noddy's voice & Don's drums, Dave's outfits but the most talented of the band was undoubtedly Jim Lea.
Everything connected with Slade always echoes in the heart with tenderness and sweet pain. Slade is my youth.
Mine too.
Great childhood and teenage memories; their music will always shine !
Exactly. My lost youth. Dreams and hopes. They always remind me. Bitteersweet.
Jim sounds great......wrote most of their songs didn't he? Slade were one of the best bands to ever come out of the UK!
Yes, he’s sounding pretty good and proves he can really make that guitar sing. The Holder / Lea song writing partnership was on par I think with Lennon / McCartney which made them the biggest UK selling band of the 70’s and also made their presence felt during their resurgence in popularity in the early 1980’s after blowing away the competition on the stage of the 1980 Reading Festival. They were best ‘live’ and always made sure their audience left the gig having had a bloody good time.
Not on par with L& McC, good but not close
Jim, you're a great composer and have influenced lots of musicians all over the world.
This guy has more talent in his little finger than most of the acts around today. Keep on rocking Jimmy Lea.
That I live in Wolves, grew up in Bilston, MET Jim in his own house when I went out with his neice, it utterly, utterly disgusts me that I never really "got" Slade until I was well into my 30s. I do now.
Just heard a report that through covid the 70's and 80's have been downloaded more than any other period. The BEST music for the worst times.
But those eras really began in the 50's.
I was there amongst the 300 people - What an afternoon and stuff that made old men cry, when the Q&A session finished and the unexpected music started there wasn`t a dry eye in the house
True Chris. It was an afternoon that will be etched with emotion into many people’s hearts and minds. It’s great to see that Jim didn’t just hang up his guitar afterwards, but continues to give us musical content.
Wish I could have been there. A true star! and without a doubt the best bass player I have ever heard. Plays a mean guitar as well lol. A man of many many talents. I wish you well Jim.
Yeah, a fantastic, unique bass player ... 'Move Over' !!!
@TheHumbuckerboy Oh yes...fabulous bit of bass on that...Nod didn't do bad on the vocal either fid he. Janis would have approved ❤
Been to hundreds of gigs over forty years, yet I am sitting here with genuine goosebumps on my arms. I have had this on cd for quite a while. Fantastic to see film of it now.Top, first rate musician. A true legend.
Jim Lea is an amazing musician much like John Paul Jones can play any instrument.
Yes he’s a clever bloke. Did you see this video he did recently where he played all the parts himself (as well as playing the instruments) ?

Our world would be a duller place without Jim , Slade and all that fantastic music and those wonderful bands from the 70s !
Thanks for all the music Jim. Please get back with the band for one last gig, don't be like Rodney Bewes and James Bolem, and leave it until it's too late. Thanks again for the music of my youth.
I love you Jim, music is life
So sad that I didn't get to go to this, but what a star Jim is. I found this whole gig quite emotional just watching it on youtube. Get well soon Jim, it's great to see that you and Slade still have such a massive and pationate following 50 years on. Please do this again soon!
"I'm not a bloody fish finger..." Big love to Jim Lea.
One of four members, but 90% responsible for some of the greatest rock music ever created. Glad younger folks are discovering the music behind the image this footage is brilliant
Yep, often thought he’s the fuel that drives the machine. All four components (Slade) needed to make it move though. Thanks for your comment. You can find the stuff he’s doing now on this link…. facebook.com/JimLeaMusic/
Thats discrediting Noddy dont you think ? @@en53kff
Jim Lea a genius ...get well soon
Jim's a good all round musician and song writer. 🙏🤘👌👍

This is so great absolutely beautiful to see what a great songwriter
My favourite Jim Lea, the brains behind Slade undoubtedly! Hugely talented and an amazing songwriter, he held his own with his solo albums, quite a few of his songs incorporated iin the Slade label. Rock on Jimmy!!❤❤❤
Love Jimmy Lea. Love Slade.
One of the best live bands ever they could always get the crowd rockin
Slade were amazing not only for there sound. but think about it. they were together from what 1967 till 1985 and had countless hits. we need an original member reunion!
oh,yes
papa John, I think Slade members separated in 1991, not in 1985.
@@koraek 1991 m8
Noddy hasn't the bottle the rest have performed but no Noddy, come on Noddy don't wait till it's too late your all still here and not in too bad nick I hope, wee are all still here who you left behind waiting for you.
Не нужно! Эти великие музыканты прекратили деятельность своей группы на пике славы, ушли не превратившись в пародию на самих себя! И это правильно.
So privileged to be there love him x
That was such an emotional afternoon and one I will never forget
Fantastic! At my school in the 70's you were either a Slade fan or a big puff (can you say that nowadays?🤣) T Rex fan! I was a Slade fan (with a secret enjoyment of T Rex on the side!) Let's please get the band together for one last tour or sort the royalties four ways. Dave and Don were a big part the success too!
Jim your my Music god, Thanks for all the great and greatest music
😁
I was there,so emotional loved it what a great afternoon love you jimmy x
Спасибо за видео!
Джиму, Нодди, Дэйву и Дону - спасибо за музыку!
Slade была прекрасная группа.
Спасибо, мой друг. Да, Slade были великолепны.
I am so happy to see Jim !!!!! Hopfully his helth troubles are gone. All the best to him ! He cannot imagine how many people in Russia love him !!! SLADE for ever !!!
Hi Mikhail. Glad you enjoyed the video. Jim has prostate cancer and although it is controlled by drugs, it is apparently incurable. It makes him tire easily but he lives with it. Love to all Slade fans in Russia.
Didn't know that. I will pray for him and his family.
Saw Slade live in early days when they did Shape of Things to Come. Great live act!
others are dying .. they still live ..original...I would pay a lot ... to see them ... a classic
Happy birthday Maestro James Whild Lea!
We want more!!!
Thank's for all, Jimmy.

Just brought therapy with live at robin2002 excellent sounds brilliant glad your doing well big slade fan cheers jim
This is what SLADE were about. Playing live & getting everyone involved. My elder brother was more into them than I was but I still enjoyed their music, & still do. A Reunion would be fantastic but sadly I don’t think it will ever happen. Good vid. 👍
this is brill i was there very emotional we love you jim forever!!
Здоровья этому прекрасному музыканту и человеку!
Спасибо. Джим был бы признателен за это.
Absolutely fantastic man
Jim Lea/ Noddy Holder. What a writing partnership. Slade have us some of the best albums ever. Old new borrowed and blue. Slade in Flames, Nobody's fools. Tilldeaf found part. The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome. Not one bad album. Slade. Timeless.Cos I luv you. 50 years old.. Beat that..
Good ON Jimmy! You still rock mate! Slade for EVER! \m/
Met your brother that afternoon 16 again will never forget loved it xx
Privileged to be here, loved it x
I'm smiling and singing along, great.
What a talent ...and he plays the fiddle too.
Robin 2 is a great music venue have been there twice.
He seemed to start off a bit reluctant but was soon enjoying himself, great to see.
Loved him x
Nice one jim. I love slade. I lived near Wolverhampton when I was young and one day crossing the road Don drove past me . Always think back to that.
Do you know, that it was Jim`s idea to PLAY SO LOUD ? Dave and Don both are very nice guys (I have a n opportunity to meet them and we spent several hours before and after their gig) but there is NO SLADE without Nod and Jim...
Love that Jim 👏
Loved you so much in my teens didn't appreciate your musicianship do now x
I'm huge fan of Jim Lea, because he's one the alltime great composers in Rock! The other genius, Noddy, should sing his songs! It hurts me Dave and Don, to say to you, how bad I feel of what Slade has became...
why did Nody and Lea leave?Composer and lyricist of bigteam..it's easy to spoil the band (((((
Wonderful! Xx
Thanks for posting this, I was a few rows behind you but torn between filming it and just simply enjoying watching it. I think the whole place was a bit gob-smacked to see this, it might never happen again. All I could hear people saying at the end was "I wasn't expecting that!" What a day that was, best thirty quid I ever spent. Cheers. Marc, Bury St Edmunds.
Yes Marc. Brilliant day. The day itself advertised said "Jim wouldn't be playing due to his illness". I think this is why everybody was surprised to see him walk on stage with his guitar. SO glad he did. Glad I did video it as so many people have enjoyed watching it and its now there on CZcams for the future enjoyment. Regards Rob.
Благодаря его таланту композитора мир узнал SLADE.
да. очень одаренный человек.
😂jim Lea still has that beaut concert action, its a natural coming from a good band like slade. He has never lost that beat on his guitar.
Spoke to his brother, but so gobsmacked to speak to him,my teenage hero
he has still got it 👍
jim lea Генератор Slade Великий музыкант Это музыка СССР мы их Любим они наши шедевры эстрады.низкий поклон этим музыкантам
Total musician x
The orchestra behind Slade.
I'd love to see them get together just one last time before it's too late ...Quo did it a few years ago then sadly Rick passed away...I don't think it will happen with Slade and that's a shame.
You are right Phil, it won't happen. They are old men now and Nods voice couldn't manage the vocals he once had, and Jim is not well and tires very quickly. We only have the memories now but what great memories...
@@en53kff we don't know what Nod's voice is like today. He may have saved it well, who knows. As for Jim, he seems quite energetic here. Maybe he can manage a gig or two... But even if they gathered together just to sit in chairs and tell stories would be fine for fans.
Unfortunately for Quo, those reunion tours weren't as exciting or up beat as their normal shows. It was fun at the time but looking back at it, it's well clear that John and Alan were not at the same level as Rick and Francis.
Fkn brilliant
Fantastic get well soon Jim and KOR
SLADE is the best. Wolverhampton,I love you
Love ya Jim
I was there!!!
Living Legend is Jimmy Lea
ffs missed this
Здорово
Great bass player.
Luv ya jim
❤️❤️❤️⚓️
Love you Jin
Джим играет на всех предметах из которых можно извлечь какие-то звуки!
Wow
fair play Jim!!
He and Noddy are allowed to play these songs!
they are there songs
they wrote them,
Jim if you play this last year, I wish you one thing: do your best for a real Slade Réunion Album with this title and Tour. Before it’s impossible Dave. Greetings from a Slade fan from the Netherlands, who’s first band was Slade (I can you stories). Please use your brains also for this and help to make a Real Slade: Slade True! (also good title).
Izzy Stradlin was the Jim Lea of GNR.
Noody,Noody,Noody ...only Noody ,this is Slade !!!!!
He still rocks and beats Dave Hill on guitar!
He is a good rocker but he can´t beet Dave Hill on guitar. Dave is a great guitarist
He's an amazing guitarist, I was surprised when I saw video of his previous performance at The Robin. Still, I saw Slade live four or five times and Dave Hill was an excellent guitarist.
He seems and probably is a' lovely bloke' decent honest straight as a dye 'just like the rest of the band''the fantastic ''slade''
Jim n don were the best
Fantasric
After the original members of Slade went their separate ways, (1991), Dave did call a meeting with Don, Jim, Nod & himself, where Dave suggested getting back together. Don & Jim were all for it, BUT Dave insulted Nod, who would then have nothing to do with it. Jim said if Nod was out, then he wasn't interested.
Just a god
❤️
SLADE was knockin hard at the door. American radio had finally figured it out, Folks from 16 on singing bout Chameleon.... deep sigh.
I d happily pay £100 for a ticket to see the original Slade one more time
You forget just what a great body of work Slade produced. I thought they should be playing the xmas tours that Gary Glitter used to do before he was disgraced.
Your joking Slade should be playing arena's ...they influenced huge bands like Kiss.
Glitter was playing two nights at the Nec and other big venues before he blew it and that was what I meant not a small circuit. I agree that they deserve to be massive I love their stuff.
👍👍👍
