What people have to remember is that, even though there was speculation, he never validated his illness until only a little over a day before his death. He didn't want his illness to be the shining light at that award...another reason those final two words are so priceless and meaningful now! Rest in Peace Freddie. XX

    Pause the video at 5:17 . i feel like this picture encapsulates the event in which the band splits apart. To the left is Freddie, dressed as himself and in a fading state of health, soon to pass. In the middle is Brian being the upfront speaker of the group, a role he didn't pick up until this moment, and would continue that role till today. Behind him, still in the middle, still in the public eye, is Roger supporting Brian and standing with him. And finally to the right John. He's standing farest away but smiles at what he's done. He's happy but stands aside, still furthest away from Freddie and a distance away from Roger and Brian. It kinda hurts.

    Queens style changed every decade to something so outlandishly unique and as the years went on, Freddie's flamboyancy exceeded. Queen were really a very unique and natural band because not many people could achieve that greatness as much as they could back then.

      Well, to be fair, Brian always did most of the public speaking as Freddie was very shy. He doesn't say very much in the previous year's acceptance speech (for the Brit Awards too I think?) for The Miracle. He didn't do a lot of interviews, etc. So I don't think it was all his illness but also just him being shy of speaking in public, which Brian seemed much more comfortable with.

Than you could see him sort of tune out probably thinking this is the last time I'll be seeing an audience of people in front of me. Bitter sweet moment in music history.

    Queen had initially agreed to play a medley of their greatest hits at the Brits 1990 but pulled out at the last minute. Ofcourse those in the music media knew that all was not right with Freddie and probably would have continued to ignore the bands achievements if this wasnt the case. I have always wondered how Queens music and stage shows would have progressed in the 90s if only Freddie had access to the treatment those with HIV now receive. I guess we will never know.

      Dave Annan he would've lived longer or still be alive today if the meds available now were available back then. Matter of fact, Freddie died shortly before they were.

    • @daveannan2577
      @daveannan2577 Před 6 lety +31

      Susan Orchard it would have interesting Freddie and Queen fighting it out with Oasis and Blur. Knowing Queen they would have probably done an Indie album just to prove to the critics how versatile they were. The 90s would have looked very different in this alternative universe had Freddie somehow got the required medication if he had somehow managed to hang on for another year. Instead of the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert we could have been watching the Freddie Mercury comeback concert for the exact same aids benefit.

    • @susanorchard1994
      @susanorchard1994 Před 6 lety +23

      Freddie would still be kicking everyone's ass today if he were still alive, showing everyone why he ruled the stage when he performed.

      The Grunge era...dead of Kurt Cobain, post grunge Radiohead, Foo Fighters, the Indie Muse... 2000’s techno & that stuff...who knows...Maybe Freddie & Queen would have made an interesting music world to 91 and beyond

    • @daveannan2577
      @daveannan2577 Před 6 lety +11

      Yes ofcourse. However Grunge, Indie, Britpop would have still happened but once all those movements passed Queen would still be around just like they came through a similar period in the late 70s with the punk movement. Would Freddie still be running around on stage as much. Probably not as age would have certainly slowed him down but his musicality would have still shined through with his unique vocal range which to this day no other artist has achieved. Just what direction would the music of Queen taken I wonder. The innuendo album and innuendo in particular certainly gave us an insight into the creatitivity Queen were heading in. I dont think The Show Must Go On would have been written however as without a terminally ill Freddie those sentiments wouldn't have provided enough of a platform for these types of numbers to exist.

    No matter if he is forgotten by "foreseen" generations he will never be forgotten from when he started until now 6/1/2014!!, born in 1993 I missed out on a lot of Icon and legendary musicians such as Dean Martin and Freddy Mercury, being so far apart there geniuses inspire me. Well done every musician who even tries! Everyone deserves credit! Bar those hacks who just pretend. I really wish he had continued with the band Queen, but alas death calls whenever it is due. Legends are born, Legends die. We all face the same fate as a lot of humans famous or not! :)

    Freddie seemed quite annoyed probably about his illness but he generally would have said more than he did which is sad as he would have said more I think if he was not so ill an maybe and in pain he would maybe have done his ussual performance or some thing like that. I wish he was still alive.

    • @christiangrey3645
      @christiangrey3645 Před 6 lety +15

      I think a few people did a performance act for the awards, except Queen. Freddie was much too ill at this point to perform live. I wish every day that he were here. It was a huge blow to the public and the music industry when we lost him.

    • @daveannan2577
      @daveannan2577 Před 6 lety +14

      Ofcourse it must have been bitter and sad for Freddie no longer being in a position to perform live anymore but by this point even getting out of bed or walking took a huge effort from him. It was a miracle he was able to show up here in person as I'm sure he must have found the entire night exhausting both mentally and physically. It must have been equally as painful for him when he seen the clips of him being shown prior to the illness. I think by this point one last performance might have finished him off right there and then hence the reason he decided to pull out at the last minute as Queen had initially agreed to play.

    • @christiangrey3645
      @christiangrey3645 Před 6 lety +6

      Did they really agree to play? Freddie would have milked the occasion to perform if he were healthy.
      On this very night at the party, there are photos of him looking seriously unwell. His mouth and nasal areas are red and patchy - I think he may have caught some sort of cold or flu prior to that night that progressively destroyed his health in his final year.

    • @daveannan2577
      @daveannan2577 Před 6 lety +3

      Christian Grey it was confirmed in one of the Queen books I read when it stated that Queen pulled out at the last minute. Unbelievibably the same year there was a rumour that Queen were lined up to play again at Knebworth which seems even more crazy and baffling.

      I've said it elsewhere, Brian May should have let Freddie to talk. Even because it was evident that Freddie could hardly attend another event like that. That's probably why he seems annoying.
