  • I've never once heard a negative review of the Eley hose reel, and with how much they cost, that caught my attention. Here are my thoughts and opinions.

    After going through several cheap reels I decided to buy one of these. 10 years later it still performs like it did the very first day I mounted it to my house. I will be purchasing another post mount for my back yard. I HIGHLY recommend these.

    I have one that I bought7 years ago and the strap that holds it in place at the reel broke. I called to get a new strap and was told that there was an upgrade to that issue and received the upgrade within a couple of days for free. That’s how all companies should operate. I’m very happy with my reel

    Just got mine today and the quality is evident in the packaging, materials, fit/finish, and function. It’s nice to see something other than a minimally engineered, low dollar, overseas product.

    I installed my Eley last weekend and love the darn thing. I went nuts and also purchased their 75 foot 5/8th inch hose, nozzle, hose guides, and quick disconnects. The complete system is an industrial beast. Makes one really think back on all the pain one suffers with a lesser water hose management system. Oh and the other benefit is that this gear is solid and will last forever. Yeah it is worth the money. Thanks for the video.

    I've had 2 since last summer and with the freeze we had in TX during the winter, had a part fail on 1 of them. Very likely my fault, but they covered the part no problem. SOLID product and great customer service! Yes, no auto rewind, but I prefer no auto rewind as that's more failure prone when subjected to the outside elements. Would love to the see the long term vs the Hoselink one you have in say 5 years.

    Bought the portable 2 wheel cart and 125’ hose 10 years ago. Absolutely love this reel and hose. I have lived in the same house for 42 years and went through numerous hose and plastic or cheap metal reels before I decided to just buy the expensive one. Being 64 years old I have learned that not all the time the cheaper tool, part etc is the cheapest or least expensive in the long run. I have just bought two more for my daughter and daughter in law for Christmas as per their request.

    A couple items: The reel has both a brake and a separate drag tension setting. Depending on how much hose you have on the reel (weight of hose), you can tighten or loosen the drag so the reel stops unravelling when you stop walking. On your specific setup, you can remove that kink prevention sleeve that is on your hose where it attached to the hose reel. Your hose wont kink there as you can adjust the copper adapter so your hose goes straight into the opening. Also when winding/retracting the hose, you can face the reel and wind with your right hand and guide the hose evenly on the reel with your left hand. Good luck.

    For the price, I want to see a hose guide that makes it wind up nice and neat and a swivel so it points the direction I'm going with the hose. Automatic rewind would be awesome. No one makes one where you can use your existing hose. Something worth mentioning though is that the all the piping is a full 3/4 inch so it doesn't create any restrictions.

    I just wish they had an auto rewind version. Especially for the money you are paying Id almost think it would be a part of it. Its a solid design though and the other auto rewinds on the market seem flimsy. The Giraffe one I have is already sagging on its mount.

    I have no doubt that these hose reels are the 💣 diggity, but the better bang for the buck is the HoseLink. It’s easily removable for storage, and it rolls the hose up for you. Personally, I don’t need a hose reel built like a tank.
    I wish HoseLink didn’t have the b.s. proprietary hose ends, but they aren’t deal breakers.
    Now that you have both, keep us posted on which one you like best.

    Jimmy, "Free Freight" is usually never free... it's buried into the cost of a product - Healthy markups are typically required in order to provide "free freight" - The shocker?... quality costs money - freight costs money - it will always be accounted for somehow in the cost of a product - the average consumer loves the word "Free" - Everyone in this country has become so used to Chinese pricing, along with the crap quality, that when they deal with a quality product so many automatically assume it's a ripoff solely based on the price - it's amazing that we have so many college educated people in our country who don't seem to understand basic economics - now, my statements may not be true 100% of the time but they will be overwhelmingly correct the vast majority of the time - to sum up... in life you typically get what you pay for.

    • @JimmyLewisMows
      @JimmyLewisMows  Před 3 lety +1

      I completely agree with you. But you can't assume that every college educated person has taken an economics class. It's just easier to point out that the reason the product is so expensive is because shipping is baked into the price. I would however, as a customer, like to have shipping options when purchasing products. There is no option with Eley. You're stuck with premium shipping. Personally, I would much rather wait 7-10 days to get it and pay significantly less to cover the shipping cost.

    • @johnbiggins2105
      @johnbiggins2105 Před 3 lety

      @@JimmyLewisMows @Jimmy Lewis well stated Jimmy. You buy cheap you get what you pay for. Does not matter where it comes from. I take quality any day from any country that produces a great product. The previous user...Billy is somewhat correct as you get what you pay for. But we cant assume everyone does not know about economics 101. You be surprised they might. But it's not economics...it's marketing 101. The word "free" attracts people. They click on it.
      Just like the LCN does with YARDMASTRY, he builds the shipping into the cost of the products to drive clicks on the site.
