  • Those of us off grid who use 12v batteries charged by solar or wind power think twice before plugging in any appliance that might consume our precious electric energy. Running a sewing machine can do just that - deplete our power supply. The Granny Wheel can be a great solution for sewing in your car, truck, boat or RV.
Sewing Machine for Boat, Car, Truck, RV
Just slip it on your electric sewing machine's handwheel, tighten the screws and start sewing manually. Yes, like in the old days. But you would be surprised how easy and satisfying it is. You can now sew everything you need while on the road or out at sea without the need for any electricity !
If you are off grid on your boat and you need to sew a sail that tore so you will now be able to do that. Or if you are in a camper or truck or RV and you need to sew a table cloth or a blanket or fix holes in clothes for example you will be able to do that without worrying it will deplete your batteries.
We currently make Granny Wheels compatible with the Singer Heavy Duty sewing machines: series: 85SCH, 4423, 4411, 4432, 4452 but are also open to customizing for other types of sewing machines. Contact us and tell us which sewing machine you have and we will check if it's possible to customize a Granny Wheel for you.

I purchased the Granny Wheel for my Singer Heavy Duty and added the plastic handle from the Sailrite Speed Reduction Wheel that I wasn't using to one of the wood balls. It is perfect!

Shouldn't the handles turn from the spokes at a 90 degree and also swivel ?

Yes, but I had to come up with a design that would be both lightweight and inexpensive to make. The design you propose would need steel handles, bolts, joints etc...many components...

You can also make the handles telescopic.
