  • This video shows that you can use materials that you have to make an antenna that is not critical at all.
    I simulated the same dimensions with 8 mm and 6 mm elements, results are about the same.
    If you use an aluminium boom, likely the few mm that needs to be corrected are even not relevant, seen the bandwidth.
    Of course also very useful for contacts over the amateur satellites.

      Thanks for letting me know Simon. Please have also a look at the link in the description about the article I wrote. Dimensions are not that critical and depending if you need gain or a good front to back ratio, you can play with the length of the director or reflector. By the way: I used this antenna also with my FT290R🙂

    Aluminum is 50% less conductive than copper. A dipole made of stranded copper wire may outperform a 3 element yagi. A dipole is somewhat directional when used for SSB. A single director only gives you about 1 db of gain.

      Thank you for your thoughts. Aluminum has 61 percent of the conductivity of copper, however, with these frequencies only the outer surface counts, the so called ‘skin effect’.
      Aluminum has only 30 percent of the weight of copper and therefore generally used for antenna’s. Even the most expensive professional ones. The described antenna could be made of copper tubing if you like. Performance will not be noticeable.
      The mode SSB has nothing to do with directivity of a dipole. If you position it horizontal, it had directivity perpendicular to the dipole (so two sides).
      Gain is always related to a reference. For example dBi is the number of dB’s related to an Isotrope radiator, dBd is related to a dipole. Claiming that adding a single director gives 1 dB gain is thus incomplete information. If you mean 1 dBd it is not true according to simulation software, respected antenna manuals and own measurements. And this antenna has even a director and reflector!

      @@abheevaganza5927 Detailnya disebutkan dalam video. Jika itu tidak cukup jelas, lebih baik tidak memulai. Jika desainnya sudah dipahami, material lain juga bisa digunakan. Mungkin saya akan membuat serial tentang dasar-dasar antena, jika berlangganan tidak akan ketinggalan!
