What is Acura Super Handling All-Wheel Drive?

  • Now celebrating its 15th year, SH-AWD is the first all-wheel drive system that distributes the optimum amount of torque not only between the front and rear wheels but also between the left and right rear wheels. The result is uncanny cornering performance that provides incredibly neutral steering and outstanding vehicle stability.

I drive an 05 RL as my daily/beater, that thing lets me accelerate mid turn getting off the Highway. (40-50mph~ left turn from double yellow line)
Pretty fun, I kinda want to see how Quattro stacks up.
    Random things I learned:
Nearly got in a 70mph accident forcing an exit in a 06 Scion TC and learned what understeer meant. (GPS was late)
Got curious and drove an 05 Pilot at my fun exit turn, NOT FUN, hella scary, I learned what a high center of balance meant. Tried again, but slower and it understeer.
Drove a 17 C300 Coupe at my fun exit and learned what traction control was, It was lame.
Drove a 17 Camry at the same turn andddd understeer like the TC.

C'mon #Honda/Acura we need a TypeR with more power plus a light-weight version of the Sh-AwD system...you keep telling us how Great it is, So then make it lighter and Stuff it into the TypeR while improving functionality like no fake vents at the back and practicality like volume/tuning buttons, a physical handbrake over a powered One. I want to get One....and really, more power PLEASE over pops n bangs (Lol) I'm Still a fan of not going loud

When talking about the history of SH-AWD, how could you forget about the very first car that used some of this technology. While it wasn't AWD, the 1997-2001 Prelude Type SH, had torque vectoring from the front wheels. Its ATTS (Active Torque Transfer System) transaxle is basically what the rear differential of the 2004 RL was.

GM's Twin Clutch(GKN) is similar with torque vectoring. But where SH-AWD only sends 70% fore or aft the Twin Clutch can send torque to a single wheel while the other three slip.

@game plan 78 my GM vehicles turbochargers have all been ecu tune for much more than stock and better fuel efficiency. Plus are are very much indestructible even with higher output. GM Intellilink is a robust and doesn't lock up or go blank screen.
These are stuff your Japanese dealership mechanic will have to contend with like weak drivetrain and glitchy infotainment that has no fix from the manufacturer.

2023 MDX SH-AWD Was better then the 2024 MDX AWD.

    • @ricepony33
      @ricepony33 Před 2 lety +1

Owned a couple Subaru’s. If they don’t have an actual LSD at the rear or the STI’s center diff then they are just open diffs spinning whatever wheel has the least traction.
The SH AWD has active LSD’s that are actually putting power where it needs to be and using it to improve handling. Older systems were really only active under throttle though, not sure about the newer ones.
Either way I’m more impressed with the Honda system from a performance perspective. Subaru is still impressive in its own right.

I want an all electric RDX with Super Handling AWD (and better styling, natch).
Because plug-in electric cars are SO much simpler than internal combustion engine (ICE) cars - meaning far fewer parts - I think ALL electric ACURA models should have SH-AWD.
I have a mere MAZDA AWD with its "i-Active" power distribution system. It works "OK but SH-AWD is far better.
