Some people do not believe me when I tell them that I have seen this movie more than 20 times, but it’s true. This movie is a masterpiece, and words are inadequate to express my obsession and fascination with it. I’ll never get tired of watching it over and over again. When I found out that they’re making a near-exact replica of the ship, which is called, Titanic II, I got really excited and I dream to be on that ship.

Today I watched Titanic on the big screen for its 25th anniversary and naturally, I am an emotional wreck on the inside. I can't describe what a dream it was, I was born after the release of the film so I had never had the chance to screen it at the cinema however I had seen it on my computer. I took a train downtown, (Friday, freezing cold weather) and went by myself and had purposely chosen an earlier time so it would be mainly deserted. It started at 12:10 pm and of 174 seats in the room, only 11 were occupied. Because I was alone, I was free to cry as much as I pleased without fear of anyone intruding. I enjoyed it so much and let myself feel without limit, let myself laugh in happiness and sob during moments of sadness without calculating my actions and it was the best cinematic experience of my life. I believe everyone should try to screen this film alone at least once, it's an unbelievable experience. On the train ride home, I listened to the soundtrack, specifically, The Portrait and Rose by James Horner, such beautiful and moving pieces that take you right back as the film plays on in your mind. I must stop here otherwise I'll write forever about how special today was for me. I also felt incredibly inspired to create art and leave behind things so that I mustn't be forgotten when I'm gone. Most importantly, I hope one-day people can gain from my work resonant stories like this that stay in their hearts for however long they grace the earth. --Khadeeja.H

  • @davidn.8976
    @davidn.8976 Před 3 lety +179

As they went down with the ship, Jack was still happy that he'd won that ticket; what was important to him was that he found Rose. Though he died, he wasn't in anguish, at least visibly. He wasn't regretful. He'd found Rose and wanted for her to live on. His last sight was a woman he loved deeply and who he wanted to live even if it meant he wouldn't. I'm not sure I'd go as far to say he was happy in those last moments, but I do think he was content. Rose was something concrete in life that he finally found, and his last effort was to ensure her survival. He would've passed looking at somebody he felt something for that he never found in anybody else.
Despite so much time passing since the sinking, she never did forget him. I'm sure she moved far beyond those tragic events, going on the marry somebody else, having children, and living what seems to be a fruitful life, but Jack, even in those short days, had an everlasting impact on her. It really breaks me when she says that Jack only exists as a memory. It's a concept so difficult to accept, that people can slip away with no record of their existence at all and only hang on by something as fragile as memories. The diamond was the only material memory she had of him. She'd never know what life would be like had Jack survived, and I think she did still love Jack in a sense. Privately cherishing those memories was a way for her to continue that bond. He saved her physically, mentally, and spiritually, and that’s something you’d always hold onto.
So one thing that makes me the most sad is how deep down, I think she longed for Jack because of everything he did for her. He showed her that there is a life out there worth living and gave her her first feeling of romantic love in an environment where she felt like she was drowning with no will over anything. That doesn’t mean her love with her husband after the fact wasn’t legitimate. It’s similar to when you lose a family member, you always carry them with you, and while you will eventually be able to feel the joys in life again, the pain of the loss is always somewhere deep inside. Your love for somebody is never the same as it is with another.
I've seen this movie several times now-when I was a kid, as a teenager, shortly after I started university, and again in my early twenties. I see it differently each time and feel different emotions. It truly is a beautiful movie, and the soundtrack is just something else. This particular piece, to me, is a mixture of many feelings: of vulnerability, the shimmers of newfound love, of excitement, of trust, of hope. Yet, pieces like these convey feelings no words can fully capture. They really bring this movie to life and touch me deeply. Thank you, James Horner.

The story behind this piece is very heartwarming. Horner called the original version of the track, performed by himself on the piano, "Sketch" as it was an outline of what he wanted his main theme to be. Cameron saw and heard it and misunderstood the title, as he thought it was written for the famous sketching scene, and suggested it be used there as he felt it was perfect as it was, to Horner's amused surprise. This composition remained untouched.

    I see you,I feel you
That is how I know you go on
    Far across the distance
    And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on
    Near far
    Wherever you are
    I believe
That the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
Love can touch us one time
    And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we're gone
Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we'll always go on
    Near far
    Wherever you are
    I believe
That the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

    There's nothing I fear
    And I know

There are actually 3 titanic movies. The first came out in 1953. Then it was one named A Night to Remember. I can't really remember the later one but the one from 1953 also has a young love in it. I figure Cameron took some of that movie to make this one. It's also a good movie. Too many similarities for him to have not seen it.
