    Very good I just got into sand casting and I made sand green sand from a mix of cat litter clumping cat litter that is along with straining fine sand and I would look to forward to maybe using Petra Bond one day for a better finish

    Do you have a video of how you built your muller?

      This is still the way I do it.

    Thanks. This confirmed that I was doing the right thing with my K Bond sand. I used Isopropyl Alcohol as the catalyst though. I used it straight too. Can you say why the water is necessary?

      I don't know the reasoning that's just the original recipe I was given and it has worked great for me for years. Glad this was a help to you.

    Hello, will SAE 10W-30 motor oil work instead of the SAE 30? I have that on hand already, and from what I read the 10W means it will act as a SAE 10 oil at low temperatures, but not sure how that would play into the effectiveness in this use.

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  Před 4 lety

      I'm not sure about using multi weight oil. I think I would buy some straight 30 weight. You would hate to ruin your petrobond for the cost of some oil. Good luck!

    I would make a feed tube thar dribbles the oil and alcohol out in front of the wheel.

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  Před 8 lety

      That would be a good idea. Thanks for watching!

    Is that the same oil you would mix with fuel for a 2 stroke engine I’ve been looking at options for casting lead and the moisture in green sand has a risk of causing explosive reactions

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  Před 2 lety +1

      No it is regular motor oil, the less additives the better. You want a non detergent if you can get it. Tractor Supply usually sells them. You will have to start with Petrobond sand which you can get on ebay. It has binders in it that you can't buy separately.

    Couldn't you mix you 30SAE of 1 ounce and 1/2 ounce of alcohol and a 1/2 ounce of water all together in a small spray bottle? Then mull your sand by hand or with a flour sifter. Spray it,hand mull it and then sift a few times??? I had about 50lbs of Petrobond I bought about 8 years ago and used about 15lb then put it up in the rafters of the shed for storage.It was in a plastic bag then that bag was inside another. Got it down and it seems to still hold but felt a little dry from storing it up there that long. I'd like to get it back to as close to new as 35lbs of the stuff can be pricey and this box full hadn't even been used.

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  Před 6 lety

      I haven't ever mixed them together and sprayed them on. The alcohol is supposed to act as a catalyst so I would think you would have to mull in the oil first as it would separate in the bottle. Good luck with your sand.

    Hii
    Thanks for video
    But i don't get which sand u use before u mix the oil and alcohol?

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  Před 5 lety

      You start with petrobond sand and when it looses it green strength you have to do this process. This is not a video on how to make the molding sand but how to rejuvenate it.

    What does the"catalyst" (alcohol) do for the mixture?

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  Před 2 lety

      I honestly don't know. I think it kind of gels the oil to make it adhere to the sand better and form a clump when compressed.

    • @SoatMon

      This is petrobond. You can buy it from a guy on ebay. You can not make petrobond at home but you can make Kbond which is very similar, search google you will find the recipe. Thanks for watching!

    1 oz of oil to how much sand? Sorry if you’ve covered this already.

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  Před 6 lety +1

      It shows in the video that I added that amount to 35 pounds of sand. It's not real critical because it depends on how depleted your petrobond is. I would start with that amount and add more as needed to get the green strength back. Hope that helps you!

      +davisx2002 There are recipes for Kbond sand which is similar, on the internet, but some of the ingredients are hard to find. You can buy petrobond from a guy on ebay, just search for petrobond sand and he will come up.
