It won't be that difficult it wasn't for their obsession to play 20-30 yr olds and have an actress around half their age as leads. Ajay Devgan has very gracefully accepted his age and is still doing leading roles where he plays a family man, like Shaitaan and Drishyam.

It's a visual medium and not a social work org but what no one wants to talk about is that Bollywood ran on looks of immigrants from Pakistani regions. In other words, over 99.9% of Indians will stay angry at beauty standards of Bollywood . Even though since 2010, the usage of filters, orange grey lights ( usually Bhansali movies) and photoshop had made it possible to show actors and hosts on TV and movies 30 shades gorra/peachy and 10 phase softer aryan features. Now main leads look the same as Russian dancers in the back.

@sakshamsadh292 Well they don't give hits because they don't get films! Remember when srk and kajol acted in Dilwale? But directors don't give them the opportunities.

@@awaraxbhawre1545 producers aren't stupid. Nobody went to watch Diwale for Kajol. It was for Kajol and srk. People will go to watch an srk movie even if he's the only main character in it (Jawan). Can you really say the same for someone like Kajol? Deepika maybe alia maybe but not someone like Kajol. She is not what made that movie successful and all the producers also know it, they were just banking on the nostalgia of their Jodi and that's why the movie was a hit. If they kept everything the same but replaced srk with anyone else then the movie wouldn't even make 50 cr. You have to agree that these kind of female actors don't draw audiences. Yes it may be because they haven't gotten a chance to show their craft but these movies are really expensive and it's not possible for a producer to take such a big risk. It's the same logic with why female actors are generally paid less. It's not because they're worse actors but only because they are getting paid proportionate to how much money the movie earns because of them.

So most of the girls in southern India don't look at movies as career option. Moreover majority of the superstars & their crazy fans get a huge ego boost if a prominent fair skinned Bollywood actress or a white Caucasian girl is acting next to them. So southern producers & directors don't mind coming to Mumbai, Bangalore & Delhi scouting for very fair skinnedfemale models preferably from Punjab or Himachal aspiring to become main lead actresses, since it is cost effective for them in launching these fresh faces as debutants in their movies. That is how ladies like kajal Agarwal, rashi Khanna, tammanah bhatia, kriti Shannon, taapse pannu etc are introduced to audience & made a mark for themselves. Rajkumar Rao was never praised for his charming looks, he went out of his way to get plastic to look good in front of camera, its not in your hands how will audience take it, its upto them, you cant always expect them to talk about you positively. The whole stardom thing is based on looks so its natural that people expect looks from you. Irfan Khan was never about his appearance or his body, hence people did not expect him to, they judged him on his acting. If SRK had to be in 8 pack appearance, why was it so? Its not that people expected him to be in shape out of nowhere, its how his PR worked to make him look youthful and energetic, so he had to prove it the audience that his PR and his movies belong in the same universe.

It took her a while, but still she managed to capture the hearts of every other Indian. Imagine if an actress today goes completely against the beauty standards despite being a great actor. You see actors trying to play college students while they are in their 40s so obviously they will get age shamed!! Do we hear Amit hi getting age/body shamed no, because he has gracefully transitioned himself in roles that is appropriate for the age. Prabhas sustained multiple injuries and he had to undergo a major knee surgery . After baahubali , he had a flood of scripts coming in and most of the scripts weren't normal love stories /family entertainers. The kind of recognition he achieved with Baahubali put him in a tough spot for years ....and he was compelled to choose different scripts to meet his fans expectations. All the directors and writers with innovative ideas approach prabhas in the hope of making something big & creative because he is considered to be the PAN India star who can pull massive audience (which he did - even if those films didn't do well, his box office numbers sky rocketed every single time).
And for every film, he put immense stress and pressure on his body to create the character he played . He's now 44y/o. Baahubali part one released in 2015 . How can anyone expect him to look the same after 9 long years ? These are all toxic unrealistic standards .

The de-aging thing which is going on now is really distracting. As an SRK fan i feel so sad that he has to just look like the way he looked 20years ago. That man looks more handsome in real life than in movies but kya kare stars ka face par wrinkles dekh kar hamari janta ko aankhon main jalan hone lagti hai na. We just don't accept the fact that they also age just like us. SRK, Ranbir, Hrithik can't play chocolate boy roles forever and this thing will only change when the star's themselves accept this fact and play their age, surely some movies won't work but after a while people will accept them as they are.

While I can empathise with actors like Rajkumar Rao, it's hard to generate the same for mainstream Bollywood stars. These are the very same beauty standards they have set, and profited off of. They used it to overcompensate for a lack of talent, or hard-work for that matter (Especially in Bhai's case). Actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal deliver phenomenal performances, while looking like a million bucks, and these beauty standards won't affect them in the future as much because they've set the right standards for themselves. It's time we stop pitying actors when they're only reaping what they've sown. Honestly, Rajkumar Rao will still win in the long run, because of what he has to offer to us and his roles. I know I'm being blunt, but it's necessary, sometimes.

But it is also about the actor’s hunger to be visible in movies. Some other comment suggested that one should play a role appropriate to their age.

I agree with everything that you pointed out. However, it helps to call out people who have set these standards. These standards did not appear overnight in the industry and the society. Very few casting directors, directors and producers won't invest money on actors who depart from the conventionally good looking standards/ In the off chance that such actors do get a break, they land up doing only a particular kind of roles. Seldom will you get the opportunity to see a non conventionally good looking person play anything apart from an individual riddled with distress or some structural challenge. Never have non conventionally good looking people shown falling in love, romancing each other etc. It is the biggest of the biggest people in the industry who set these standards and then create a hue and cry about it.

Beauty standards can be influenced by celebrities, both male and female, as well as individuals themselves. However, it's common for people to blame others when they struggle to maintain these standards. Ultimately, one's body type and appearance are deeply personal choices. But Sharing one's beauty standards or makeup looks on social media to gain likes is a personal decision, but it's important to be prepared for potential criticism or trolling. It's essential to take responsibility for the consequences of sharing personal aesthetics online and not to complain later about negative comments or trolls.

Afterall, who says there cant be interesting stories about 50 year old men and women. Think about the Taken series from Liam Neeson, he nailed it and the emotional hook worked for the audience because of his age.

You just addressed the elephant in the room!!
When you started this video I was glad that you nailed it on the head abt Hrithik.
All our “Stars” are no more actors, they all are conforming to the beauty standards that are set in Western Countries.
Men have washboard abs and have botox / plastic surgery done to look more younger - Brad Pitt being the latest example. All the male out there also at age 60 and above have the Abs and drop dead gorgeous wrinkle free looks, romancing women half their age. Frankly there too these men are not exactly doing age specific roles - Liam Neeson, Tom Cruise, Jason Statham they still are playing leading male roles, instead of transitioning into character roles which would bring out their acting chops.
This has percolated down to our Hindi Film Industry more then any other Industry in India.
Neither Shah Rukh nor Salman has really done any roles which shows their versality as Actors.
All of them say that their audiences want to see them that way. Please!! I beg to defer. We seriously want to see some acting not over acting!!
When the Stars want to be the center stage we will always get mediocrity. Let the screenplay, the story, the directing, the sets do the talking and see the magic of Cinema happen. Latest example being - Lapataa Ladies, Veer Savarkar, Shrikant, on OTT - Gili Puchi and Mirror - one acted and another directed by Konkana Sen.
I can never imaging any of the Star Kids nor any established actors being able to pull these roles off convincingly.

I feel this narrative about looking youthful has gained milage in recent times especially in the last 5 to 6 years since the time gen z has turned 18. I think this has to do with what this generation has grown up with, I.e. social media portraying hard to achieve, next to perfect bodies and skin. We are now expecting everyone to look flawless and never age as anyone above the age of 25 is an aunty or uncle as per gen z while they forget that time is merciless and has it's vengeance against everyone.
