    Awesome 👍.
I was checking out at Walmart recently when the cashier saw my items & said, "are you doing that keto diet!" And I replied, yes I am...she continues, I heard it's bad...I replied, yes it's bad for the pharmaceutical companies, junk food manufacturers, diet doctors and medical industry profiting off of the standard American diet. She looked at me like I had two heads.. 😂🤣

Two quick notes on this podcast:
    1) I didn't realize until after filming this video that the heating vent almost directly above me was open. That's why I look warm during this video.
    2) I also didn't realize that my Yeti with the Ron Jon sticker was in frame looking like blatant product placement. Ron Jon should give me some sort of kickback for that kind of advertising. LOL.

My husband is thin and doesn't eat low carb. When I first started Keto, I made him hide all of his crackers, po chips etc... in his office. That was 17 months ago. Now, it doesn't even phase me when I see them in the cupboard. It's like they're not even there. I see them as poison now.

I agree with you, my husband is low carb but my son just eats whatever. I cook for me and if they want they can eat it or fend for yourself. But I too walk into a room and since I follow so many different low carb/keto doctors I have found out that the food companies are just plain poisoning us for profit, looking now at that kind of food is a GREAT BIG TURN OFF!!!

I've gotten them to about 70-80% keto food consumption. When they're out I still think the knowledge stays with them. They have both lost weight and look at food differently now. 😎👌

Tip for all you keto fans out there. If you're in a situation where you don't want to argue your diet choices or maybe just want to have a little fun, don't tell people you are doing a keto diet, instead, tell them you are doing a "Whole Food" diet or a "Modified Mediterranean" diet. Tell them you eat lots of vegetables, avocados, some meat and fish, healthy fats and you don't snack or eat sugar or processed food or junk food. You'd be amazed at the positive reactions you get!! It's the label of "Keto" that triggers them b/c they know nothing about the science or actual benefits of keto and the MSM is all about trashing anything that gets you off fast/junk/processed food.
Give it a different name and watch the accolades roll in!

Otherwise I make my own keto versions of these and do just fine, but watching others enjoy the non keto versions while I eat salad and hamburger at a resturaunt is hard for me. Well he is now down at 250lbs with in the past four months. Problem is because he has mental issues from birth he's freaking out over the weight loss keto flu etc. I keep trying to to tell him he's not getting enough electrolytes. Btw he's 27. There's a little more to the story, but I won't bore anyone with the rest. It's just ironic that he lost weight doing keto and fasting. That's too bad 😔 same here, I'm the only keto'r in my house of 7. My husband tries to do low sugar, but won't cut out grain, fruit and pasta, etc. And I have 5 children, so figure that out- yup, LOtS of crackers, etc. The amount of bread that we have in this house is mind-boggling.
For me though, cravings are not a problem, I happen to not care about those types of foods. More frustrating is that I just don't have room for the food that *I* want, lol. And I have to deal with a lot of cracker crumbs all the time. Which is VERY frustrating!

You are so right that having a support in the home is a huge blessing! I am the only full time KETO-er in my home. My hubby isn't a nay-sayer & my 12yr old does try to give "some" support. They just don't get excited over delicious keto options of old SAD foods. My hubby is really good about trying new dishes out, and doesn't really complain because he's thankful for home cooked meal after long day of work. I'm trying to educate my kiddo on food labels & understanding soybean oil & corn syrup not best for our HEALTH. I'm a 70's kid & was on cabbage soup diet @ age 9 because my mom thought I was starting to get chubby... then trained eat less, low fat & excersise more... shocking was up to 250lbs by age 30 - had gastric bypass, loss 100 lbs & continued the eat less, workout more mentality, which sadly always ended in frustration & binging. I have maintained 90lb loss over last 15 yrs, but FINALLY having emotional freedom from food because of KETO lifestyle. Sorry to ramble, but your videos have a lot of great conversation pieces. I used to love MadLibs! I started out doing keto alone and then my oldest daughter's mother in law asked me about it and started keto. Shortly after that, my mother started keto. She has rheumatoid and osteoarthritis along with osteoporosis and she was amazed that my fibromyalgia pain disappeared a month into keto. My husband just started his 3rd week on keto. He has type 2 diabetes and his a1c was 8.7 on his last labs. He's been on insulin before and I told him that he could either try keto or get ready to go back on insulin and he chose to try keto. He's already had to eliminate one of his meds due to his glucose dropping too low. Our two children still at home are not keto even though I'm trying to convert them over and my father isn't keto even though he has ate some keto meals that I've prepared and hasn't complained. It's easier now since I do have family in the house doing keto with me but sometimes it's tough to do my intermittent fasting. A lot of what you said in this podcast goes along the same lines as things that Dr. Ken Berry points out in his book "Lies My Doctor Told Me".

Add to it that my wife is a RN who has recently decided high fat low carb is "unhealthy" despite seeing my 90 lbs lost, 61 HDL, 115 trig (and still dropping). I have done less "talking" and more walk the walk to let the evidence and experience show, but it does take a fair amount of will power on some days where the traditional jar of peanut butter in the pantry looks tempting.

I live alone and am glad of it because I know if there were non-keto foods readily available to me it would make this an impossibility. I have been an impulse eater all my life and it has been my greatest downfall when trying to lose weight in the past. Very affirming video from the irritating mice data to living with non-keto family.
I find the most predictable way to get my husband to eat keto food is to make it for myself, like lots of sausages in the pot of sauce and meatballs. He’ll pick out the sausages. 🙄. Last night, I made keto Asian style meatballs, and nachos/tacos for him and our 16yo son. Hubby took 3 helpings of the keto meatballs. I’m fine with it, but he’s not keto, and enjoyed 4 beers with my keto dinner. Anyway, you get my point, lol.

My boyfriend and I decided to try Keto early 2018. He was telling me about it and I, being the stubborn person that I am, thought that it was a terrible idea. I was doing Weight Watchers and I didn't want to give up bread because whole grains are healthy, right? Yeah. SO I begrudgingly decided to give it a go. Having tried EVERYTHING in the past, and me at 291 pounds, I was actually willing to try anything....
Anyway, in our household is me, my boyfriend and my, at that time, 16 year old daughter. I jumped in with both feet and made the decision to purge the pantry. I threw everything away. Everything. Anything that was not Keto friendly, and wasn't open, was donated to the local food pantry and anything that was open, went into the trash.
2 years later, we still don't keep anything in the house that isn't Keto friendly. That is how I dealt with the 1 non keto eater in my family.. She flip flops back and forth but she has asthma and Keto is actually very beneficial to her. So she indulges the Ketoers in the house. ANd if she wants something that isn't Keto, she buys it for herself and hides it!

But I'm alone in this lifestyle,,have been the whole way except for the utubers on internet. My sister did join me and has turned her life around from being overweight and type 2 diabetic. Only problem she lives over 3 hours away from me. But anytime we get to be together I greatly appreciate it. I've always always loved her but now I feel an even closer relationship with her.
I could write a book on how many times I've been hurt and shot down by friends and family. It's gotten so bad I have lost the desire to go to family functions for they all revolve around food. Which I've told this same story on others utube channels. It seems nothing changes for me I feel like a complete outsider with friends and family.

I will never eat any other way. No more swelling in my ankles or morning body aches all while feeling better.

Steve, I’m glad you’re addressing the challenges of eating low carb in a household with carb consumption people. My husband is not low carb but since sharing the knowledge of sugar and carb damages to our systems, he has cut out all chips as snacks. That was a huge win for me because watching him eat that garbage was grossing me out! I didn’t want the chips, I wanted HIM to not eat them because of what I knew about the bad ingredients. I’m just not turned on by something that’s gross, lol.

You hit the nail on the head - there is profit in the obesity epidemic and also a really convenient way to sell industrial ag waste products into the food supply. Ancel Keys' study was actually on 22 countries, not 7. Not only did he cherry-pick the included data, but it was much easier to "creatively interpret" data back then, too. I think your idea of "Ketofying" recipes you would otherwise try is really the best way to succeed. it's got to become a lifestyle to work long term. I can't imagine ever going back to SAD - mostly because I literally cannot tolerate grains - so, I'm always going to have to eat mostly Keto and I think accepting that makes a HUGE difference in my relationship with food not being one of deprivation.

This video totally spoke to me. I want to help everyone around me but their carb addiction is louder than I am. I know because I myself didn’t fully acknowledge the truth until I really felt the pain and dysfunction after trying everything including weight loss surgery that didn’t really work all that well. Even though friends and family are happy for me, they say, “I’m glad you found something that works for YOU”. In other words, “great for you but leave me out of it” is what I’m hearing even though I never made any suggestions. So sad, people around me are suffering from constant hunger, fatigue, obesity, stress, depression, heart disease, and neurological disorders. And they can’t see the proof in front of their eyes. It’s hard to let go and not talk about my discoveries or my journey, I’m learning to just focus on me. I also cherish my partner and his commitment to our home and health and am so thankful I have a constant source of support. ❤️

I'm in my 11th month eating Keto. Started out with my daughter, but she quit after 3 months (she started with me so I could have a battle buddy, her quitting time was pre-planned). I live with her & son in law, they cook almost all the meals in the house. Since I'm settled into my food routine, I don't require all the "keto snacks" etc, so it's pretty easy. I keep alfredo or cheddar sauce (homemade) in the fridge-they cook the meals, I smother whatever meat or veggie I want in cheese sauce, my daughter puts a macro count on our whiteboard & I eat what I can out of the meal. They keep to the veggies I can eat as a rule, and they also cook all meals from scratch (which is half the battle as it is!) When they want a meal I can't eat-they make sure I have something I can & let me know ahead of time. :)
For the Walmart visitors-I cashier a couple nights a week, and OMG, I wanna tell folks to STOP EATING THAT CRAP, but I'm not allowed to. :P I do spot the low-carb/keto eaters & converse with them, letting them know where some good items are & how to order online etc.
I tell people I "eat keto", not that I'm on a diet, because for me it's strictly medicine-not weight loss. I started so that I could avoid taking a biologic for an immune disorder I have. I have been in remission/very low symptom since about my 2nd month "eating keto". I also tell folks that it's not for everyone-because it isn't. I wish it was tho. :/

Yeah, I get the anti-keto rhetoric from many sources including my former RN sister-in-law who is convinced it is the same as diabetic ketoacidosis. Since I do the cooking my husband is getting a semi Keto diet. I offer carbs at dinner as an option. Most of the time he says no, he doesn't want them. He has lost 20 lbs in "collateral damage" from me going Keto. I have 15 lbs to go to my goal weight. The best part is I no longer have any symptoms IBS or reflux. The way I feel is more than enough to make this a lifestyle not a diet.

Totally agreed about appreciating your partner if you have one. My husband is nowhere near keto and his family is waiting for me to have an issue (diabetics who still consume sugar, potatoes, etc). It’s hard with all of the cookies, chips, cookies, granola bars, etc. in the house. I try to keep “my food” at my eye level or below and his above mine so it’s not right there in my view and I have his stuff in high-sided bins so I don’t see the packaging so much. It’s hard when the non- keto foods are staring you right in the face. He’s always trying to get me to eat a cookie or something but when you start it’s hard to stop. Sugar and gluten are a really big trigger for me...sugar really is a drug.

You've talked before that you did Atkins years ago and lost weight, before I got started on keto, I tried to find the differences, but was never able to answer it, can you do more in depth about Keto/ Atkins? Dr Atkins definitely got hit hard with the same low carb stuff all those years ago. I was thinking about your last blog on ads and making this viable and wanted to give you my thoughts. 1) Maybe talk about not skipping ads, I am not a channel owner, but I believe you need views of these ads. Hey Steve, I feel like I can relate to every word you’ve said. Very true and wise. From my “yet to be converted” family members to the stupidity I read & hear everyday. Reports trying to convince people to either eat little or no fat, no meat, no dairy and of course bad-mouthing Keto the whole time. Sometime’s I think they really know that Keto works and they just wanna jump on the bandwagon with their talk on what will make you healthy. Copy cats is what they are. But it aint gonna work. It’s almost as bad as politics. The joke is on them because the entire time I feel like I have the best kept secret. Sustainability, delicious foods, never hungry, feeling awesome. Been going strong over 2 years on Keto, IF, ExtF and will never go back. The moment I started researching the Keto Lifestyle, finding more and more info that reinforced my confidence and it all just made so much sense! Whole foods, healthy fats/oils, no sugar. You speak from the heart Steve (almost directly from my heart to be honest). That’s why “ You’re the Man” 💪😎👍 I’d love to help my fam. and friends enjoy the freedom I have found . . . maybe someday they will decide on their own.

    @DonyaLane Před 4 lety

Steve, you are so likable, man! I love your fireside- I mean, "barside" chats!
A few things that I wanted to share...
    1. Before you even finished the sentence that began with, "in a world," I said to myself, "Steve should go get that Hollywood voice-over gig," since, sadly, the actor who performed that for decades passed away a few years ago.
    2. You were trying to think of Mad Libs! That was one of my MOST FAVORITE childhood past times... playing countless hours with my Mad Libs books. In fact, one of my friends and I even went so far as to make prank calls (this was the 70s, obviously) and try reading an entire Mad Lib entry to an unsuspecting stranger over the phone, without cracking ourselves up. We'd find a Mad Lib that sounded remotely like it was selling or describing a product... or a political concept that we claimed we were fundraising for (like, Free the Whales or something... again, the 70s!), then fill in the blanks and make the call... LOL The goal was to get through the entire entry, without cracking ourselves up. Strangely enough, most of our cold calls (which, were right out of the Yellow Pages... for anyone younger than 45, Google it!) were totally unsuspecting and receptive! The only thing that revealed that it was a prank was when we would lose out sh%t and start cracking up. Then we would have to hang up, in order to collect ourselves... and lose that round, of course. Oh yeah, we kept score!
    3. Regarding the ad placement, I let them play through, because I know it helps you. However, I have seen both of those ads MANY times now, and I will likely SKIP them in the future. I don't mind watching ads, as long as it's for something I'm not familiar with.
    4. Your story about being recognized in public... That was great! My boyfriend and I have been working/performing professionally in the "oldies" music circuit for decades. The group that he sings with is VERY well known - kinda famous - in the NJ and tri state area. The group had hits in the early 60s. He is recognized all the time, especially, in shopping malls. There was one time, the actor Danny Aiello (RIP) recognized my boyfriend first and started talking to him! But the most awkward interaction was with a fan in a diner, who spotted my boyfriend and came over to our table to tell my boyfriend that the guy's wife (who wasn't there) was madly in love with him and wanted to "bang" him! LOL Hello? This was right in front of me! And what's worse? It was in front of the guy's kids! People are crazy out there...

You are WAY nicer than I was. I am not running a resturaunt, before my husband went full Keto, if I was the one cooking (which is 97% of the time) guess what everyone was eating? They fended for themselves (accept my toddler) for breakfast and lunch and we all had Keto dinners. OR, they cooked their own dinners (which lets be honest most people will not want to do if someone is willing to cook for them). It also gave my husband a chance to see just how good Keto food could be, and I started asking him "What do you want for dinner? What dish do you feel like" Then I just found a way to "Ketoize" it. I think that largely played into pushing him over to the Keto side. My kids are just S.O.L , lol they eat what we buy and make, although if my daughter craves a dish she will ask and we'll ketoize it for her, or as a treat when I'm feeling nice or she's earned it I will buy her the non keto version.

Thank you so much for all you do for the keto folks out there. I'm so glad you mentioned being the only one in your home that does keto. I too am the lone wolf in my home. I'm still battling my high BP, but other than that health issue in my recent Dr visit, she said I have the blood work of a woman in her 20's...I am 57😁😁, but because of my high BP my daughter said, "see mom you've done ALL these eating changes and are trying to get us to do it too, but nothing has changed. Your BP is still sky high!" I guess she doesn't count my recent blood work as coming from being keto, I definitely do LOLOL There are many of us in the lone wolf position, but with your help as well as other lone wolves in the keto community I/we have a much easier time. Thank you Steve

LOL Steve, my wife's reaction if I told her I was doing a video podcast would be much worse -- good show, keep doing it well!

Hey Steve, nice job on your evolving social presence. I share your frustration with the Yale ( et al) study cbait article. At 64, I've dropped 40 lbs in the past 2 years. That kind of press is destructive and dangerous and, i agree is a sign that the plant based industry is nervous. When I made the decision to try keto, I was worried I was going to give myself a heart attack. In two years Trig/HDL ratio has reversed from 3.5 to .66 (trigs from 147-51, HDL from 42-77), but the Doc is still looking still looking at LDL. Keep up the good work. 42k is pretty good in the time you've been producing.

I just saw a quote the other day that said all first year medical students always learn "a patient cured is a customer lost". I also saw an article that said a man lost his job because he failed a roadside breathalyzer test because of keto breath and was arrested for DUI. I'm not joking these were real articles.

This is a good, comprehensive critique of the generic article on keto or low carb diets.

Steve I totally understand where you're coming from, it's like when we find something good we want to share it with people and not everyone is going to be receptive at first, but what I've learned from being in recovery is that it's attraction rather than promotion. Just keep doing what you're doing.

Great episode!! I too am the keto-counterculture person in my home. And I too live with 4 other people whose meals I get to be somehow a part of, because I largely work from home. It felt like you were reading my diary when speaking of your situation! Lol
I regularly keto-fy recipes as well, and it has yielded an improvement in many of the choices they make. However , the heightened awareness has mostly just caused a hybridization of sorts to where they eat all my things .. as well as their SAD things 🙄thought to their credit, they do try to eat less of the SAD foods because they get the health aspect beyond aesthetics. So, I take the wins where I can get them and keep on keeping on outside the Matrix.
Thanks for the time and effort you invest into this community. Lastly, I’m glad God blessed you with a real-life fan to vindicate you before your wife!! ( actually Lol’d at your mock response! ) hopefully she becomes a more willing supporter/ participant of healthy nutrition. Blessings to you all :)

Am starting to watch from the beginning. Great content and it is well worth the ads if you continue this journey. Hope some Canadian products will get into the grove, because, (not your doing) so much more available in the states than here. Thanks Steve.

What a lovely, honest and practical account. Great advice about whether or not to tell people about Keto - I have made a mental note to check myself before opening my mouth. I'll take all the advice except, I don't imagine I'll ever get round to buying the kit to measure ketones etc. It sure is tough doing Keto alone but I am feeling the benefit of the change.
