How to Form, Pour and Finish a STAMPED CONCRETE Patio

    We've been remodeling an old building for our new office & shop, and we are finally going to pour our stamped concrete porch and patio.
    We prepped the ground with a gravel base, formed the pad with 1/4" slope on it and installed 3/8" rebar for reinforcement.
    The next day poured the concrete. We added sand buff integral color to the concrete truck, but we also broadcast color hardener on the surface. We used a wood plank stamped pattern on our patio and a flagstone stamped pattern on our porch.
    Once the concrete had cured, we stripped the forms and stamped the sides of the concrete. We mixed color hardener with water/resin/polymer and applied it to the sides of the concrete. Then we stamped the sides with the texture skins, and created grout lines with an s-tool.
    I came back the next day and washed all of the color release agent off of the surface. I also sprayed a water/muriatic acid solution on the surface to help me to remove as much release agent as I could.
    We let the concrete dry overnight and then we applied a solvent based clear sealer on all of the concrete.

      Except that is not how it is done. Strip the form, and stamp it with the correct stamp. They make end stamps. Think about how an end of a log looks. The grain is round. That is where the right stamp makes the whole job.

    I would still put a membrane between the house and concrete. It's a must if you're going against brick or concrete wall. Will Crack you're walls if not done.

      We haven’t had any issues with that on this project (it’s at my office) and it’s over a year old.

    Can you tell me what color you used for the color hardener, and integral concrete color in this video? If you were pouring a small walkway and were mixing the concrete on your own what concrete mix would you use?

    • @TimDCVA

      Sand buff integral and color hardener. Dark Gray release. Both from Increte systems.
      Quikrete 5000. We always order from a concrete plant though.

    how long do you wait to stamp after concrete is poured?

    • @TimDCVA
      @TimDCVA  Před 3 lety

      It’s different for every job. You typically stamp it right after you can trowel it.

      We have two. One looks like a bull horn that goes from about 3/16” to 3/4”
      The other one is an S tool that has 1/2” wide joints.
