They also did another collab. on Stromae's "Papaoutai" which is rad (as the kids used to say). I'm guessing it was a reciprocal arrangement since this one is "Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix" and the other is "Pentatonix featuring Lindsey Stirling". To be fair Stromae's version was very good and had a very artistic video. Ptx's video took a different direction which still managed to retain the basic feel and story of the original. (And that's the only way you will see "basic" and PTX in the same sentence).

You should watch Pentatonix on "The Sing-Off'. Every episode performance, in order. It was so great to see their journey from the very beginning. They were all great, but my favorites are
"Love Lockdown" Kanye West and "Dog Days Are Over" Florence and the Machine. Here's a list of every song they did.
Episode - Song choice - Original artist
    1 - "E.T." Katy Perry
4 - "Your Love is My Drug" Ke$ha
3 - "Piece of My Heart" Erma Franklin (credited to Janis Joplin)
5 - "Video Killed the Radio Star" The Buggles
6 - "Love Lockdown" Kanye West
7 - Medley of "Oops!... I Did It Again", "Toxic" and "Hold It Against Me" - Britney Spears
8 - "Born to be Wild" Steppenwolf
7 - "Stuck Like Glue" Sugarland
9 - "OMG" Usher (featuring will.i.am) & "Let's Get It On" Marvin Gaye
10 - "Forget You/Since U Been Gone" Cee Lo Green / Kelly Clarkson
& "Dog Days Are Over" Florence and the Machine
11 - (Finale) First performance - "Without You" David Guetta (feat. Usher)
Second performance - "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)" 98 Degrees (sung with host Nick Lachey)
Victory song "Eye of the Tiger" Survivor

I love when they mix in some instruments. I know they're an acapella group primarily, but a little change-up never hurt anyone. Everybody will be recommending Papaoutai since it was the other Lindsay Stirling collab, and you've already done Say Something. Other performances featuring Kevin on cello are:
    Dancing on My Own
    Perfect
    Shallow
Thank You (original song from their latest Christmas album, also features Scott on piano)
    Other recommendations:
    My Favorite Things
    La La Latch
    Rather Be
    Sing (Original song)
Aha! (Double feature - the official video, then the fancam video of the live performance at the Star Vista in Singapore)

Right? Idg why some ptx fans get all bent out of shape when they're not 100% a capella on every single track.
Like, my dudes we already know what they can do with their voices, let them show off their other talents some times. I mean what other vocal band has at least 3 people who can play piano (I know for sure Kevin, Mitch & Scott can, idk about the others), a cellist, saxophonist, and if you include matt 2 drummers, plus Avi can play guitar (the fact that 1 person is responsible for 4 of those is irrelevant lol KO isn't human, we established that, right?).
They technically don't _need_ to do it all with their voices, they just enjoy doing that, so if sometimes they want to do something a little extra/different then good for them. Personally I love it when they surprise us by mixing it up, keeps it fresh.

Ummm. Adding strings or piano makes it not acappella. The fan base came to them from their winning the national acappella competition the Sing-Off in late 2011 that the band was formed to compete in. The amazement and awe about what they could do without instruments was why they became so famous. They even had a major disagreement within the band about using an actual whistle as a sound effect in "Ref"
There is only one performance when they put in Kevin's cello without Lindsey that is "Say Something". Kevin would play cello on stage while the others left during their live shows. Avi would announce after doing his overtone demonstration which was used while Kevin set up. Besides that the only other time I know of that they used an instrument was very early on when Mitch had an issue with his voice one night in 2012.
Avi got his 🎸 and accompanied Kirstin as she sang Gravity by Sara Bareilles czcams.com/video/PBtFEv0ByM4/video.html

      @gailseatonhumbert9199 Před 2 lety

@@leomarks5189 @Leo Marks well then they are no longer acappella. Just another pop band. There are numerous interviews in which Scott says they would never use a piano for example for years.
Kevin used to do an interval with Avi demonstrating overtones first and the his playing his cello but everyone else left the stage and it was made clear they were acappella. Avi was the only band member who came in with acappella championship winning credits to his name. (Kevin was an instrumentalist and Scott and Kirstie were just starting college and Mitch was in his last year in high school.) There was, excluding their 2 collaborations with Lindsey Stirling, only 1 time they used the cello and that was in "Say Something" in 6 years. Oh and the big fight they had over using an actual whistle in "Ref".
Just be aware that to call them acappella when they are not practicing it is not exactly the truth. Good singers but not acappella.

@@gailseatonhumbert9199 They won a Grammy for singing Jolene, didn’t make them a country band. Singing Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art didn’t make them a Christian group. Singing a few songs with instruments out of the hundreds they’ve done doesn’t automatically make them “just another pop group”and remove them from the a cappella category IMO, of course you’re entitled to your own opinion as well.

@@leomarks5189 I and many others firmly disagree. That was their genre acappella. That was what they won the Sing-Off for. That was what they got 2 of their 3 grammies for arrangement acappella.
That is what alot of their fans follow. You screw with the genre it gets noticed. It is NOT acappella when you drag a piano on stage. Deal with it. Don't try to make excuses and don't think you can eliminate a valid criticism of the band by bullying the critics either. That's just biased fan behavior.

Been listening to this video for years, and I this it brings out the best of the song even better than the original (to me at least). Loved your reaction.
