It's fine if you don't delete some of the partitions, but if the files that's causing you to want to reset are located in those partitions, then you're just wasting your time reinstalling the pc.

@@sawssman965 Type "regedit" in the search bar of Windows. Select "Registry Editor" and then paste this into the address bar: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
Then you want to look at "BackupProductKeyDefault" and that is your actual Windows 10 activation key.
Also, to answer to your other question, if you do a custom installation, you can choose which drives you can or want to format. So this means, you can only format your main drive and keep the other drive untouched. Just make sure you do a custom installation, there you can see and select your drives.

I don’t know if this is even gonna be seen, but I’ll try to help someone out. I was recently reinstalling windows myself for the fist time, and after the first attempt I got an error that said something like “your computer needs recovery”. I got worried af, but tried to repeat the process and after 3 tries it worked. It installed and i tried to use the system. As soon as I plugged out the usb and restarted it showed the same error. I ended up doing the same exact process for the 4th time, and it finally actually worked. I don’t really have specific advices for people who experience the same, but something I learned for myself. Ideally have another windows pc to use in case the usb installation gets damaged so you can remake it. And try several times before going and remaking the installation. Writing this for some people to know, that there’s probably a decent chance this won’t go 100% as it should, so be ready for all of these things and don’t panic.
Literally one of the cleanest and helpful tutorials out there. Great job man.
Just a little something that might help someone:
In my case, the setup process was reappearing after the restart. So I removed the USB drive as soon as it restarted, and it moved smoothly with the further setup process.

Thanks for the video and tips on your website. I've done this many times over the years, but it sure helps to have a 'tutorial/guide' for the task. Your presentation is straightforward and very easy to follow.
I do have a suggestion that goes along with doing a reinstall/clean install of Win 10. It's quite helpful before wiping everything clean to get a list of the programs that are installed on ones 'rig.' Also, getting serial#'s and product keys from as many programs as possible is helpful as well. I found some free utilities out there and one can find good ones by doing a search. Perhaps you have a list of some favorites that you might suggest? It takes a bit more time, but I think it's worth it. By doing so helps remind you what programs you had installed so you can re-install the ones you want and be back up and running asap. Cheers!
Thanks for your kind comment Jeff! Also thank you for your useful suggestion regarding installed software and product keys. Surprisingly I don't have my own list of software but it would certainly be an interesting topic for another video! Thank you for watching.

Hey bro. You already had win 10 in your laptop?
@@clumsypotato2065 yes I had. But it was bloated so I reinstalled using the usb drive.
@@deshmukhrishee bloated meaning what exactly? I have super high ram usage with 2x 8g stick when gaming. Upwards of 100%. And I'm wondering if this will fix it.
@@DamaDojo1 bloated simply means that the OS is filled with unnecessary applications/programs which are of no use to the user. Certainly, the user must have downloaded some of the programs which they might not be using anymore and there are some which come installed with the OS. When the OS is used for some time and the machine starts to feel a bit slower, the main reason (assuming the hardware is perfectly fine and the software being used is trusted) is most probably the bloated softwares. Of course, the user can just uninstall all the files but some data still remains in the OS about that program so a clean installation is recommended.
As for the RAM, it only handles the processes and there are multiple processes in an OS out of which, some processes belong to the OS to be able to run the OS.
Windows is a heavy OS (meaning; it has more processes -> more RAM usage) compared to other OS such as most distros of Linux.

@@RichardTech I am pretty good with M$ average user stuff, but after a bad M$ Window update that crashed my install, I was uneasy finally having to do it again
Now with the slackest time of the year to do another shot at Updating to Windows, with your insight into deleting all the disks not the C drive if I could not simply unplug a drive, I went in
Everything worked until my screen went dark, OMG again, but now I no longer had any drive but C
I turned off the computer, then back on, and Windows completed the update from Windows 7 pro to 10 pro
I was not given any indication to turn off then turn back on my computer
Pardon me being long winded, but if you are here to learn about updating, I strongly suggest you pay attention to this video, particularly the Disk deleting about 5 minutes in
With a new install of Windows, be sure sure to save your passwords, etc, because this update is totally new
If you save to external disk, be sure to unplug it so nothing is deleted as Windows does this change over
On an old laptop, going from Win 7 to Win 10 was no issue at all, so go figure what you might or might not run into, but you will have to bite the bullet
What I wanted was simply to continue to receive M$ Security Updates
Of all the videos I watched about problems going from Win 7 to Win 10, this one worked best for me
Still, deleting those drives is freaking scary!
Get passed this, you will be good to go
Yea I just deleted them at random and got fucked

what's the difference in doing it this way vs a fresh system recovery wipe?
This way lets you completely reformat the drive(s) for a fresh install. Doing a recovery through windows does not wipe the drives completely. For example it may keep some driver files on board. If you want to nuke the drive and do a clean install, use the USB. If you just want to restore to factory settings, try the recovery method.
