    The only thing that needs traction tires are steam locomotives, not Diesels. I've seen many a steam loco try and fail at my club's 3 percent grade and diesels handle it fine. That being said, I have the CSX one of this model and for some reason I've noticed a lot of people seem to be selling it which is why I probably got a better deal on it than if I tried to get a BNSF one. My SD70ace really struggled for a while, it would stop randomly and after a thorough break in it seems to run a lot smoother now, more like what I've come to expect from Kato products. I run it paired with a Kato CSX SD80mac in my Tropicana train.

    With Katos fantastic reliability the last thing they need is old fashioned troublesome traction tyres

      Then use Kato's superior technology to rethink the traction aspect of how to do it better 😉

    Picked up a two pack of these for about $200 off of Ebay. Pulled out a Bachmann set I got several years ago and the Loco from that set was smoked. Regardless of how off and on I am with the hobby, I felt this was an alright deal for a couple of superior units.

      Model Trains Wow! I would love to see more of your content! I’m looking to start the hobby in n scale, but I only want to spend around $500 on my first layout, and I’ve been looking at this locomotive!!

      @@vectahyper5911 It would be a good start. This one was actually the 3rd one I got I want to say, after going big on the Kato 844. It would make for a solid purchase, lol.

    Thanks for sharing but I would have to respectfully disagree about noise level. There is nothing smoother or quieter than the Japanese made Kato's.

    • @ModelTrainsWow
      @ModelTrainsWow  Před 6 lety

      TacticalJackalope While I tend to agree, this one just can get a bit loud at speed. Not sure if the video does it justice. Certainly super smooth though! Fleichmanns I have found, in general, are the quietest.

      @@ModelTrainsWow rubber on silver rails??? That's the worst thing in model railroading, it'll instantly begin contaminating the rails, there's a reason plastic wheels go on the trash I place of metal ones. Rubber is dirty!

    I have one in UP (1943 heritage) with DCC but no sound. Pretty much agree with your findings. It is easily the strongest loco in my stable. I paid $125 which I think is fair for DCC. Sound added way to much, and frankly the novelty of sound wears off after a while. I will probably buy another in UP to consist with 1943.
    Good review.

    Yeah I gotta disagree with the traction tire stuff, Nothing will f-up your track more than traction tires. If you have problems with the engine struggling on turns I would use 2 engines in the consist (Either up at the front or stick it in the middle or back of the train like a real life DPU). That always helps with extremely long trains such as the ones you are running.

    • @ModelTrainsWow
      @ModelTrainsWow  Před 2 lety +1

      Interesting... never had any problems myself with the track. I have had 2 traction tires break off on other trains, but that's pretty much it over the last 6 years of doing this. But I do agree, a second engine helps for sure on longer trains.

      @@ModelTrainsWow Yeah I've haven't had the best of luck with traction tires haha, doesn't mean they WON'T work but from my experience they haven't been the best.

    Does anyone know if these Locomotives operate/operated on Freight Routes between New Orleans Region and Florida back as far as 1970's until 2010/2011 ...
    .. In particular, EMD SD70MAC BNSF Heritage II #9842 (as I am considering Purchasing one), or does anyone know of any particular Road Numbers that operate in said era and regions?
    I am designing a layout based on various Locations between Louisiana and Central Eastern Florida.

    • @ModelTrainsWow
      @ModelTrainsWow  Před 7 lety

      In theory yes... But as I only have one power supply that would have to be split amongst them all. Unless you mean test each one at the same speed dial to see which does it faster. Would be an interesting test which I just may do....
