Magnus Carlsen adalah Grandmaster catur Norway yang merupakan Juara Catur Dunia, Juara Catur Rapid Dunia, dan Juara Catur Blitz Dunia. Ayahnya, seorang pemain catur amatur yang kuat, mengajarnya bermain catur pada usia 5 tahun, walaupun pada awalnya beliau kurang menunjukkan minat dalam permainan ini. Carlsen menyatakan bahawa salah satu perkara yang mendorongnya untuk bermain catur dengan serius adalah keinginan untuk mengalahkan kakaknya. Beliau melepasi rating 2800 pada usia 18 tahun dan mencapai nombor satu dunia dalam ranking FIDE pada umur 19 tahun, menjadikan beliau pencatur termuda yang pernah mencapai prestasi tersebut. Carlsen menjadi Juara Catur Dunia pada tahun 2013 dengan mengalahkan Viswanathan Anand.
Ian Nepomniachtchi, lahir pada tahun 1990, adalah Grandmaster catur Rusia. Pada bulan Oktober 2016, Nepomniachtchi berada di kedudukan keempat dunia dalam catur rapid dan catur blitz. Beliau telah memenangi dua pingat perak di World Rapid Championship dan satu pingat perak di World Blitz Championship.

Magnus Carlsen is a Norwegian chess Grandmaster who is the current World Chess Champion, World Rapid Chess Champion, and World Blitz Chess Champion. His father, a keen amateur chess player, taught him to play chess at the age of 5, although he initially showed little interest in the game. Carlsen stated that one of the things that first motivated him to take up chess seriously was the desire to beat his elder sister at the game. He surpassed a rating of 2800 at age 18 and reached number one in the FIDE world rankings aged 19, becoming the youngest person ever to achieve those feats. Carlsen became World Chess Champion in 2013 by defeating Viswanathan Anand.
Ian Nepomniachtchi, born in 1990, is a Russian chess Grandmaster. In October 2016, Nepomniachtchi was ranked fourth in the world in both rapid chess and blitz chess. He has won two silver medals in the World Rapid Championship and a silver medal at the World Blitz Championship.
