HOW TO: Painting a Rusty Tank Exhaust
Vložit
- čas přidán 21. 07. 2024
- Exhausts are metal parts exposed to lots of heat. This heat exposure makes them corrode very fast. Even though most tank exhausts left the factory painted just like the rest of the tank, the high temperatures made the paint peel off quickly.
The condition of tank's exhaust changes as the tank gets older. In this video we'll paint a rusted out exhaust from a decommissioned tank. But it's not just any exhaust, this one is partially wrapped in a protective mesh screen which was intended to protect the tank crew from getting burned. Painting and weathering photo-etched mesh is a completely different chapter, but we'll tackle that as well.

I've not touched a model in years, and have since given all my kit to my nephew, but I'll be damned if your channel hasn't sucked me in.
Could always build them with him 👍
@@vasili1207 I wish I could, but I live quite a distance from him.
@@sr20ser. hehe you should have said he lived a few hills away ☺.. well when you do see him least you have something to talk about.
@@vasili1207 the vas is back!!!!! Xxx
@@MottysMilitaryModels where did i go?
Never seen someone painting a exhaust like this, just the „normal“ way. Outstanding work on this one.
This guy is amazing. And has a great sense of humor as well
I swear your finished projects come to life!
Your attention to detail rivals painters like Ivan Aivazovsky.
This is why modeling is the best hobby in the world, There is no limit what you can achieve 😊
I LOVE how your painting technique makes the Exhaust look "Heavy" and made of metal... These techniques can easily be used on other things where "Heat" is a major or constant factor.
Again VERY NICE Martin! I'm a HUGE FAN! :D
Definition of layering :D
Yes, please, I would love to see how to weather other tank exhausts, specially hetzer's which are very iconic and eye catching
Talk more and make longer videos. More exhaust videos would be great. All of your techniques have been a huge help!
Martin.
Always good to see your videos I wish they were longer.
More videos on exhausts would be good sharing your knowledge & experience is priceless.
Thank you & well done.
I would love to see more Videos on this topic but longer is better you have a incredible way of teaching people the hobby. Everyone give Martin a thumbs up he has worked very hard on the awesome videos. He helping the hobby so much
Don't change anything, your videos are perfect
Martin, that exhaust is exceptional! I keep thinking that you can't get better, but you keep outdoing yourself with amazing techniques! Plus, you're legit hilarious!
Gotta say this. This channel is fantastic! Martin is a renowned modeller. He has written in several model magazines along side some of the best in the world and has a very successful youtube channel. Yet, he still takes the time to respond to questions from his subscribers. This goes a long way to me and I asume many others in this great hobby of ours. Keep up the great work, Martin.
Thanks a lot Dan.
Your technique is genius. I'm not only learning from watching , but enjoying these videos as well.
Very, very inspirational. I also enjoy the bloopers as it shows us mortals, we all make mistakes from time to time. Kind Regards Johnny
Great vid as usual , keep up the great work , the commentary is great the way it is and your humour is an added bonus cheers
I'm down for anything you want to show us. I rather enjoy the running commentary so if it is a question of more video with less talking or less but with your explanations, I choose option 2.
More exhausted Nightshift is always welcome. Especially if it involves Tiger's of any variety. 😅
A genius at work.
Thank you ,Martin .
Nice one Mr Kovac, a lot of work, but a nice end result 👍🏻
Great video man, the exhaust looks crazy good. I just got into scale modeling recently and your videos are really helpful. Also, I love the bloopers at the end.
I come back to model making after 10 years and these films will help me a lot. If in 1/10 they will look like models from movies, then they will be a success. We are in touch: D.
Awesome work, Martin! It's the little things like that that really make a model stand out!
I know ...someone had to say it you must exhausted after this.... but as always sir very informative and a great job ...... regards Fred
A very excellent video, your talking was to the point and you done a great job of explaining what you were doing.
yet again another out standing video.
Very nice! I model 1/48 scale trains, but your techniques apply equally well with them. Thank you for posting all of your videos!
I think you are the best model Painter videographer on CZcams
I’m learning a lot getting ready to paint a one to one scale L6/40
Fantastic result Martin. Good tip on using the brown/grey base coat. I will try it out on my next exhaust system. The use of multiple media and techniques is crucial in getting a realistic look. You nailed it mate.
Yes, please do some more of the other tank (and other vehicles) exhaust videos.
Thank you so much, Martin! You demystify all the info found in books/magazines. Much appreciated :)
hey Martin, thats the best exhaust i ever seen, i watched your video 3 times already to save all steps in my mind
It is the best video for painting a rusty exhaust I have seen. I would love to see you rust up a tiger exhaust
LOL it seems that watching you vids is becoming my way of closing up a Friday night! I am just realizing the great production values of your vids. Great choice of music , tone, lighting, format and lenght. Keep up the good work mate!
Thanks! Speaking of music, finding free music was getting really time consuming so I went the easy and lazy route and just picked one song that fits the style of my videos perfectly and just play it on loop in each video, very quietly of course.
Beautiful effect. The mesh makes it more complicated.
For the flaky rust effect on exposed mufflers, like a Pz. IV or M41 Waler Bulldog, I like to add baking soda to the base coat and then dry-brush with a lighter tone to pick up the rough baking soda texture.
Cheers!
YES Tiger exhausts please !
Love it!! I'd love to see a big series on exhausts from you!!!
It seems exhausting
Love it!
Now I can select my own background music! Cool!:) Thanks for the video - very interesting.
Fantastic. Keep them coming exactly as you've done this one. Theres no point in messing around with perfection. You're doing just fine. Thanks!!
Awesome video Martin it looks amazing
would love to see more exhaust videos....wait.... i would love more videos in general. i love this channel!
WoW!!!!! Fantastic paint job.
beautiful modeling yet again. keep em coming boss
Tiger exhaust would be great please. Make it a short video, or full length feature film, and yap all the way through if you want. I'm watching either way 😉
Your attention to detail and results are amazing, but it seems like real life use and nature's course would be faster and easier than the pains you take to recreate them!
awesome job as always and yes would love to see some more exhaust videos
Great video Martin! I'd love to see more rust videos. 😊
My dude, you are an artist. More please !
Looks amazing.
this is master work.
Can you work in a video of how to do soil over the tank please?
Great video, well explained! One of the more realistic rust finishes I've seen but, man, that was a LOT of work!
Very nice work. Been seing your videos and they are great. I really like that you talk. That way I can do other stuff and listen to your tutorial and watch whenever needed. Keep going!!
All your videos are very welcome! But if possible always with your narration, and Bloopers too ..... ;)
