HOW TO: Painting a Rusty Tank Exhaust

  • čas přidán 21. 07. 2024
  • Exhausts are metal parts exposed to lots of heat. This heat exposure makes them corrode very fast. Even though most tank exhausts left the factory painted just like the rest of the tank, the high temperatures made the paint peel off quickly.
The condition of tank's exhaust changes as the tank gets older. In this video we'll paint a rusted out exhaust from a decommissioned tank. But it's not just any exhaust, this one is partially wrapped in a protective mesh screen which was intended to protect the tank crew from getting burned. Painting and weathering photo-etched mesh is a completely different chapter, but we'll tackle that as well.

Beautiful effect. The mesh makes it more complicated.
For the flaky rust effect on exposed mufflers, like a Pz. IV or M41 Waler Bulldog, I like to add baking soda to the base coat and then dry-brush with a lighter tone to pick up the rough baking soda texture.
    Cheers!
