  • Wanted to make a video to show the places to check your steering for play. All in all, it's pretty easy to do and can save you a chunk of money by not having to pay to get it diagnosed. Hope this helps, feel free to reach out for questions, comments, or concerns!

    Always seen your jeep at fred Meyers. Good looking jeep. I'm working out these exact issues at the moment.

      Very cool! That’s where I worked for almost 5 years, up to about a month ago. I’m sure I saw your Jeep a handful of times while I was there. If you got a Facebook, join (if you want) XJ’s Pacific Northwest! It’s a group I help moderate and absolutely full of a lot of helpful people that are likeminded and local for wheeling/help. Hope the video helped!

    Awesome video! What steering set up would you recommend for a 2.5 in lift? And what did you use for the lower door panel armor? I like how it looks!

      Thanks! Factory steering works great and especially at a lower lift I don’t think it’s even worth worrying about drop pitman arms, or other more involved steering setups. I think something like the ZJ tie rod or iron rock off-road HD tie rod (that’s my vote) would be a good move. It’s a very easy install for the IRO bar, just need to do an alignment after. And it removes the concern of bending the bar. I’d say keep it factory but beef up the tie rod. It’ll be the easiest and most cost effective but also offer a much better increase in strength.
      So it actually doesn’t have armor! The previous owner actually had vinyl stickers along the label. But I believe smittybilt or JCR make door armor. I have since removed the vinyl and do like it a lot, but I do like to protect my doors!

    Thanks for all the info. My jeep has 1 ton steering and has tie rod roll. It’s wandering all over the road. I did the phone measurement and caster said 6. Any ideas?

    What Control Arm Drop Brackets are you using on your XJ..?
    Thanks..!

      So I’m actually using the Rough Country Comtrol Arm Drops! They’re advertised for a 4.5”-6.5” lift. I actually just decided to sell them, so if you want to buy them used, let me know! They’re a good part, I just ended up lowering my lift and I’ll be getting long arms, so I can’t use them with my current setup

    Does having these bad bushings make the jeep vibrate ate 60 miles?

    • @xj_overlander
      @xj_overlander  Před 6 měsíci

      Well if you feel a steering wheel shimmy, maybe. But if you’re talking about the entire jeep vibrating, it’s more likely your driveshaft. Check the quality of your u joints, and also check your pinion angle, especially if you’re lifted and don’t have a SYE

    Jesus that Jeep must of had a bad case of death wobbles .

      You’d be surprised, actually. I haven’t had anything remotely close to death wobble on mine. Slightly vague steering, but never death wobble
