I want to share a hack that worked well for me. I wanted the look of drawstrings, but I wanted the ease of elastic to pull the pants on and off. Also I happened to only have about four inches of elastic on hand at that time. So I cut my drawstrings the length I wanted for them to circle the waist, tie in front, and dangle nicely. Then I cut them in half and attached each half to one end of the elastic. Then when I threaded the whole thing through I had the adjustability of drawstrings, but only had to tie them once and then I could pull the pants on and off easily over my hips because of that little bit of elastic in back. This was especially useful to me during a pregnancy when my waist measurement kept changing so much. Just cut the pajama pants with plenty of extra room and gather them up close when you're littler and ease them out as you need it!
Thank you! I am going back to sewing after not doing it for fifteen years and you have shown me how simple things can be! Thanks so much! You're amazing!
Nancy Orozco Stoll So true I love sewing I thought it's just me or something probably be wrong with me as when I sew it takes all my stree away and makes me feel so light and relaxed just can't explain how much I love to sew
Aw thanks for saying that. It's just about doing your best, or doing what you're comfortable with!...I have had many "make it work" moments in my sewing days :) Dana
This is perfectly timed! I was just staring at my huge stash of flannel trying to figure out what to do with it as we approach eternal summer here in Texas haha. Just what I needed!
Dana I love your you tube videos! At the age of 75 I find your videos not only easy, but your personality is so engaging! I have shared with others your made everyday you tube information. ❤️
Hi Just had to say a very big thank you for your pattern, my grandsons love these shorts, I have made a total of 10 pairs for the two of them, they were so quick and easy to do. thank you so much
I did a sewing course at school many many years ago and we used old X-rays ( where we easily wiped off the ink with methylated spirits) and used them to cut patterns. Very sturdy and lasted indefinitely.
when having to sew alot of these.... I use interfacing to copy the pattern to. I have been doing this for 35 years now. I still have patterns for shorts that I used for my kids... and now use for grandkids.
Your amazing ! I’ve gotten so good at making pyjama pants after watching this video a few years ago. I even figured out how to make the button up pyjama too from an old pair. This tutorial is amazing !!!!!! Thank you for sharing
I made a pair for my daughter last night and used a pair of her current pjs as a pattern. I used a 1/2” zipper which wasn’t ideal but I completed the project. Definitely will be making more with an 1” wide elastic.
straight to the point n easy to understand for begginer like me...thank you so much!! Btw..i love your bubbly personality,it makes your videos enjoyable...
Good evening Dana. I am so happy that I found your channel. I love the way you explain everything. Today I made my first crib sheet for a gift. I am so proud of my self. The sheet came out so nice. Thank you for all of your tutorials.
I bought this same fabric a few days ago at my local Joann for making pjs also! I'm working on pjs for a bunch of family members for Christmas. Getting an early start because I'm doing quilts and some crocheted items also. Great tutorial!
Complete beginner here (I know how to use my sewing machine, but dressmaking is completely new to me). Purchased your pattern yesterday, found a cute old cotton duvet cover that had been stored away since my eldest (11) was little, cut it up and I’ve just followed your tutorial and made a pair for my 5 year old. I’m so incredibly thrilled with the result!! Just waiting for the elastic to arrive for the waistband, but they look great! Thank you so much for your amazingly straightforward, yet perfectly detailed videos. First day dress next! We’re going to look like the Von Trapps before lockdown is over 🤣
MADE Everyday 😂 Just made the First Day dress too!! I think I’m addicted already! It looks so beautiful 😍 I’ll tag you in my IG stories. Thanks again!!! Take care x
I make the basic shorts using this method. I remade shorts to go with an outfit that I made for my 4 yr old daughter from a pattern because the pattern shorts have huge legs and very small inseam. These are so much better! I also lengthened the hem on the girl shorts by a couple of inches.
Everytime i watch your tutorial. Your project it looked very easy. As the name of your channel. Keep on thinking how to present your demo. I develop the sense of confidence when i try to mimic you. Ty.
hi Dana this is Ann from England Liverpool I love your programs I was not very good at 7 because I'm dyslexic but you took me such a lot by watching what you do I just wanted to say thank you very much because you ended up making me a favour god bless
I so envy you, so full of fun learning and watching you, so great watching you Thank you very much, I’m new at sewing and I’m learning a lot already 😊❤️
I've bookmarked & come back to this tutorial so many times! It is the BEST! My grandkids ask me to make them more every year and I just move the lines out a bit for bigger sizes. Also I use poster board so my patterns last longer. :)😃 AND it bugs me that soft snugly flannel says "Not Suitable For Sleepwear" What the heck! ;)🤪
I watched your video then made PJ pants just by folding a pair that fit me in half and tracing onto interfacing for a pattern. Then used your video to sew them. Done in an hour. Bam! BTW I love all the fabrics you design!
Dana!!! 😭🥰😍😭 I seriously LOVE your channel. I struggled with sewing for awhile! You've made it sooo easy!! Not only that, but i take each lesson and transfer the idea to another way/project/problem and it gets solved so easily!! Beautiful girl, you're amazing!! PSST-- can you do a fabric giveaway!?! I would love that!! ❤
I just made my first pair of shorts the other day. Wish I would have come across this first lol. But they did come out great😊. I’m going to try these pants now. And I’m totally the same way the double stitching the elastic ☺️. I also love the end showing the pants and shorts on the kids
I absolutely adore your tutorials and videos!!! Thank you for all you do!! 😍 my son is bigger even tho he is only 8 and I would love to have a pattern for this sort of thing in men's. ❤ He's a big tall boy!
Hi Dana! Great tutorial. Ok folks, I'm a DUDE that sews (I do a lot of "man stuff" too) and I'm raising two teenager girls (prayers please) so tutorials like this are extremely helpful! This video also helped me to modify a stock Butterick pattern that went awry. Thanks again, Dana!
I love the simplicity of this pattern. Love the straight legs. I'm looking for that style in adult pjs. Do you have something like that? Thanks for creating all these great videos. So much great, easy styles.
Hi we would like to see your fabric stash , how much you have and where you keep it. Thanks I have made your crib sheets and burp cloths and some cute wash cloths for gifts and the people love them. Thanks again, to help me be creative!
hi I love your videos rekindles my love of sewing and makes me eager to make loads of lovely things for my daughters 😊 just wondered if washing your materials before you use them helps?
just a little helpful tip for anyone who needs it: use old wrapping paper to make sewing patterns if you need big pieces of paper!
That works great too! Especially the kind with the grid lines on the back. 😊
Claire Pham. Great tip, Claire ! Who doesn't have excess wrapping paper. ;)
Genius idea! Thanks for sharing.
Claire Pham doubedelight
Claire Pham omg this is a fantastic trick! Thanks so much.
